Batched network coding (BNC) is a low-complexity variant of random linear network coding (RLNC) that encodes the file to be sent into batches, each consisting of a few coded packets. Although many works are focusing on the overhead reduction of RLNC, the over-head reduction for BNC is rarely studied. Different types of over-heads in BNC interact and can potentially increase the overall overhead significantly. In this paper, we formulate aminimization problem for BNC on the number of symbols we need to send at the source node by tuning the number of packets divided from the file, which has the same meaning as tuning the packet size. It is hard to optimize the discrete zigzag-like objective efficiently. However, in practical scenarios, the encoder has to optimize the problem in real-time for different file size and redundancy requirements. We propose an efficient heuristic for this purpose and show its accuracy by numerical evaluations.

The digital transformation has been underway, creating digital shadows of (almost) all physical entities and moving them to the Internet. The era of Internet of Everything has therefore started to come into play, giving rise to unprecedented traffic growths. In this context, optical core networks forming the backbone of Internet infrastructure have been under critical issues of reaching the capacity limit of conventional fibers, a phenomenon widely referred as capacity crunch. For many years, the many-fold increases in fiber capacity is thanks to exploiting physical dimensions for multiplexing optical signals such as wavelength, polarization, time and lately space-division multiplexing using multi-core and/or few-mode fibers and such route seems to come to an end as almost all known ways have been investigated. This necessitates for a departure from traditional approaches to use the fiber capacity more efficiently and thereby improve economics of scale. Indeed, recent leapsand-bounds progresses in photonic signal processing is expected to pave the way for re-defining the optical networking realm by transforming the convention functions of intermediate nodes from simply regeneration and/or switching to incorporating photonic signal processing functions, notably encoding and decoding ones. To this end, this paper lays out a new perspective to integrate network coding (NC) functions into optical networks to achieve greater capacity efficiency in a pragmatic manner by upgrading intermediate nodes functionalities. In addition to the review of our recent proposals on creating new research problems enabled by NC operations in optical networks, we also report state-of-theart findings in the literature in an effort to renew the interest of network coding in optical networks and discuss three critical points for pushing forward its applicability and practicality including i) network coding as a new dimension for multiplexing optical signals ii) algorithmic aspects of network

For data streaming applications, existing solutions are not yet able to close the gap between high data rates and low delay. This work considers the problem of data streaming under mixed delay constraints over a single communication channel with delayed feedback. We propose a novel layered adaptive causal random linear network coding (LAC-RLNC) approach with forward error correction. LAC-RLNC is a variable-to-variable coding scheme, i.e., variable recovered information data at the receiver over variable short block length and rate is proposed. Specifically, for data streaming with base and enhancement layers of content, we characterize a high dimensional throughput-delay trade-off managed by the adaptive causal layering coding scheme. The base layer is designed to satisfy the strict delay constraints, as it contains the data needed to allow the streaming service. Then, the sender can manage the throughput-delay trade-off of the second layer by adjusting the retransmission rate a priori and posterior as the enhancement layer, that contains the remaining data to augment the streaming service's quality, is with the relax delay constraints. We numerically show that the layered network coding approach can dramatically increase performance. We demonstrate that LAC-RLNC compared with the non-layered approach gains a factor of three in mean and maximum delay for the base layer, close to the lower bound, and factor two for the enhancement layer.

We consider the problem of reliable communication over a network containing a hidden myopic adversary who can eavesdrop on some z(ro) links, jam some z(wo) links, and do both on some z(rw) links. We provide the first information-theoretically tight characterization of the optimal rate of reliable communication possible under all possible settings of the tuple (z(ro), z(wo), z(rw)) by providing a novel coding scheme/analysis for a subset of parameter regimes. In particular, by leveraging the adversary's uncertainty on unobserved links our vanishing-error schemes bypass the network Singleton Bound (which requires a zero-error recovery criteria) in a certain parameter regime where the capacity had been heretofore open. As a direct corollary we also obtain the capacity of the corresponding problem where information-theoretic secrecy against eavesdropping is required in addition to reliable communication.

Wired and wireless communication data is getting bigger and bigger at such a high pace. Accordingly, the big data (BD) communication networks should be developed as quickly as the quick increase in the exchanging data size is. Based on this regard, this paper proposes a wired and wireless protocol that applies cooperation network coding (CoNC) in a wired ring topology (WRT) to improve exchanging the BD significantly in wireless mesh network (WMN). The paper presents a solution for distributed nodes to deal with big data over 5G by proposing Hybrid Ring-Mesh Protocols (HRMP) that exploit the CoNC technique at distributed nodes. The proposed protocol (X-ORING) deterministically combines the data that is received at a base station (BS), where the BS wirelessly retransmits the combined data to the WMN members, instead of just forwarding them to the WMN members. Moreover, all members of the WMN are connected by wired optical fibre channels in a WRT and directly to the BS. The results show that applying CoNC in the proposed protocols exploits the advantages of the WRP between the WMN members, and consequently, the WMN packet error rate is significantly improved. Moreover, using optical fibre wires between the mesh network members and the BS increases the WMN coverage region considerably, and allows the BS to receive all members' packets correctly. Finally, the results show that applying CoNC on the WRT improves the entire network maintenance and reliability greatly, simply because the proposed HRMP can continue broadcasting even if one of the direct optical fibre goes out of serves, i.e. the fibre link between one of the N member and the BS lost the connectivity.

We investigate bidirectional teleportation that works in a fair and efficient manner. Two explicit protocols are proposed to realize bidirectional teleportation with a controller. One is a symmetric protocol for two-qubit states. The other is an asymmetric protocol for single-and two-qubit states. We then devise a universal protocol for arbitrary n_(1)-and n_(2)-qubit states via a(2n_(1)+2n_(2)+1)-qubit entangled state, where n_(1)≤n_(2).The receiver only needs to perform the single-qubit recovery operation, which is derived by a general expression. Moreover, a(2n_(1)+1)-bit classical communication cost can be saved within the controller’s broadcast channel by the use of network coding technology.

network coding is an effective method to optimize network throughput and improve routing reliability, and has been widely used in a decentralized Internet of Things system. However, the packet-mixing property of network coding renders transmission susceptible to pollution attacks, which may prevent the reconstruction of the original file. A homomorphic signature scheme is a powerful tool that enables network coding to combat pollution attacks. Although a series of homomorphic signature schemes already exists, no construction has been proposed to support both homomorphic network coding signatures and the certificateless characteristic. In this paper, we construct a certificateless linearly homomorphic signature scheme for network coding, thus avoiding the disadvantages of certificate management and key escrow problems. We then prove the security of the scheme in a random oracle model against an adaptively chosen dataset attack under two types of adversaries. Moreover, performance analysis results show that our scheme has a lower communication overhead and enjoys a comparable computation cost with related schemes.

network coding and topology control techniques have been widely used to increase throughput and improve the lifetime of Wireless Sensor networks (WSNs). This paper considers the simultaneous utilization of these techniques in a WSN and proposes convex non-linear programming. Since solving the problem for a large-scale and dynamic WSN is impractical and almost impossible, Lagrangian, sub-gradient and the decomposition methods are employed to provide a decentralized algorithm. In the proposed algorithm, a node makes the computations by acquiring local knowledge and information from its neighbors. This paper provides a mathematical language to build an analytic foundation for the design of a modularized and decentralized algorithm that provides transmission ranges and routes for a WSN. The simulation results show that increasing the number of sources, sinks, sensors, and traffic load leads to improving the lifetime which is acquired by the proposed algorithm. (C) 2020 Elsevier Inc. It is natural in a quantum network system that multiple users intend to send their quantum message to their respective receivers, which is called a multiple unicast quantum network. We propose a canonical method to derive a secure quantum network code over a multiple unicast quantum network from a secure classical network code. Our code correctly transmits quantum states when there is no attack. It also guarantees the secrecy of the transmitted quantum state even with the existence of an attack when the attack satisfies a certain natural condition. In our security proof, the eavesdropper is allowed to modify wiretapped information dependently on the previously wiretapped messages. Our protocol guarantees the secrecy by utilizing one-way classical information transmission (public communication) in the same direction as the quantum network although the verification of quantum information transmission requires two-way classical communication. In the protocol, some nodes may share secret randomness as resources in advance. Our secure network code can be applied to several networks including the butterfly network.

CEPRAN-Cooperative Energy Efficient and Priority Based Reliable Routing Protocol with network coding for WBAN

The wireless body area network (WBAN) can effectively modify the health and lifestyle monitoring specifically where multiple body parameters are measured using biomedical sensor devices. However, power consumption and reliability are crucial issues in WBAN. Cooperative Communication usually prolongs the network lifetime of WBAN and allows reliable delivery of bio-medical packets. Hence, the main aim of this investigation is to propose a novel protocol Cooperative Energy efficient and Priority based Reliable routing protocol with network coding (CEPRAN) to enhance the reliability and energy efficiency of WBAN using cooperative communication method. Firstly, to identify a relay node from the group of sensor nodes for data forwarding, an enhanced Cuckoo search optimization algorithm is proposed. Secondly, Cooperative Random Linear network coding approach is incorporated into the relay node to improve the packet transfer rate. CEPRAN is implemented in Ns-3 simulator and the experimental results prove that the proposed protocol outperforms the existing SIMPLE Protocol.
