The scope of the paper is the channel state estimation (CSE) problem in parametrized Hierarchical MAC (H-MAC) stage in Wireless Physical Layer network coding (WPNC) networks with Hierarchical Decode and Forward (HDF) relay strategy. We analyze the H-data soft aided phase estimator for 2-source BPSK H-MAC channel. Particularly, we evaluate how hierarchical extrinsic soft H-data aid information affects the mean square error performance characteristics of the phase estimator. The numerical results show quite surprisingly that the impact of the extrinsic H-soft information is (apart of very low SNR and very low extrinsic information region) quite negligible. This result might greatly simplify the design of hierarchical soft-output demodulator for the parametric channel.

In this paper, TRANC - a transmission rate adaption network coding protocol for wireless mesh network is proposed. We investigate the interaction between network coding and transmission rate adaption in wireless mesh network. Traditional network coding schemes either assume a fixed transmission rate and do not consider the impact of using diverse rates on the performance of the network, which limits the performance of the wireless networks. each node makes the routing decision based on the link quality, making full use of the transmission capacity of idle nodes in the network, which effectively reduces the communication costs between nodes, as well as the probability of packet duplication. Simulations show that TRANC can effectively improve network throughput with a lower end to end delay.

In distributed file systems, Random-Linear-coding (RLC) reduces scheduler complexity and download time by eliminating the coupon collector problem [1]. Similar benefits for video streaming in Distributed Video Caching and Sharing (DVCS) systems require segmentation of videos into codeblocks, over which RLC can be applied, to ensure videos' quality. This research proposes RLC-based DVCS (RLC-DVCS), and shows that RLC reduces complexity of the distributed video caching decision from which video chunks to how many RLC chunks to cache at each mobile device, and better facilitates distributability of content among devices (more mobile devices dedicating fewer resources each). All while increasing the number of video requests served ontime from DVCS, despite the challenges of video streaming. RLC-DVCS utilizes optimization and approximation methods for video segmentation, cache selection and allocation, to ensure videos' quality and cache more videos of highest request probability by reducing distributed size of each video. Using lagrangian relaxation allows for distributed RLC-DVCS where each mobile device decides how many RLC chunks to cache with limited coordination from other devices or a centralized scheduler. Monte Carlo evaluation of the proposed methods shows that RLC-DVCS achieves higher recovery probability than symmetric allocation of RLC chunks across mobile devices or un-coded DVCS.

Circular-shift linear network coding (LNC) is a class of vector LNC with low encoding and decoding complexities, with local encoding kernels chosen from cyclic permutation matrices. When L is a prime with primitive root 2, it was recently shown that a scalar linear solution over GF(2(L-1)) induces an L-dimensional circular-shift linear solution at rate (L-1)/L. In this work, we prove that for an arbitrary odd L, every scalar linear solution over GF(2(mL)), where m(L) refers to the multiplicative order of 2 modulo L, can induce an L-dimensional circular-shift linear solution at a certain rate. Based on the generalized connection, we further prove that every multicast network has an L-dimensional circular-shift linear solution at rate phi(L)/L, where phi(L) is the Euler's totient function of L and m(L) is beyond a threshold. Stemming from this, we last prove that every multicast network is asymptotically circular-shift linearly solvable.
