This paper considers the Poisson Pareto Burst Process as a traffic model for describing data streaming process from the flying node to the ground station. The flying node is the gateway of flying ad hoc network (FANET) that consists of several unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). Two scenarios are considered in the paper: in the first scenario, the gateway node in the form of a UAV transmits data from several UAVs to the ground station directly; in the second scenario, between the flying gateway node and the ground station, there is a relay-node with the OLSR routing protocol enabled. To evaluate QoS was selected Goodput metric. According to the experiments' results, it was concluded that an increase in the number of sources increases the requirements for QoS metric. The small cell technology and device to device communication make network coding an ideal candidate for improved performance in the fifth generation of communication networks. However, the security concerns associated with network coding needs to be addressed before any practical implementations. Pollution attacks are considered one of the most threatening attacks in the network coding environment. Although there are different integrity schemes to detect polluted packets, identifying the exact adversary in a network coding environment is a less addressed challenge. This paper proposes a scheme for identifying and locating adversaries in a dense, network coding enabled environment of mobile nodes. It also discusses a non-repudiation protocol that will prevent adversaries from deceiving the network.

In the current passive optical networks (PONS), we address the challenge of dealing with asymmetric channel conditions and asymmetric data rates in order to meet the traffic demand of optical network unit (ONU) to ONU (020) communications. A joint network-coding (NC) and power domain non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) approach (NC-NOMA) is discussed. The novelty of this NC-NOMA scheme lies in the way the interONUs communicates with an optical line terminal (OLT) at different modulation formats. Specifically, in the uplink communications, at each ONU side, multiple data streams from different ONUs are superimposed into one single symbol. Meanwhile, NOMA is considered by adjusting the optical transmission power of ONUs such that the OLT can decode the signals from different ONUs based on successive interference cancellation (SIC). At the OLT side, the adding zeros approach at the specific positions of the shorter bit sequence is introduced. In the downlink communications, the ONUs obtain their own data by decoding the received messages. By applying NC-NOMA, the ONU with better channel condition only needs to demodulate the fictitious symbols with a low order modulation format instead of demodulating the symbols with a high order modulation format. The simulation results show NC-NOMA with hierarchical adding zeros approach outperforms NC-NOMA with traditional zero padding approach in terms of having lower average end-to-end BER of ONUs without having additional complexity.

This paper presents a novel implementation of Random Linear network coding (RLNC) as an attempt to improve the encoding complexity by reducing the overall number of multiplicative operations during a transmission session. The idea is to allow the encoding intermediate nodes to decide on the usefulness of multiplying a received packet by a random coefficient. In this approach, the encoding operation used at a given encoding intermediate node v adapts to the previous encoding operations used to encode the received packets, in such a way that the used encoding operation is RLNC-equivalent with fewer multiplications.
