At the last few years, the usage of nosql databases has increased, and consequently, the need for integrating with different programming languages. In that way, database drivers provide an API to perform database operations, which may impact on the performance of applications. In this article, we present a comparative study between two main drivers solutions to MongoDB in ***, through the evaluation of CRUD tests based on quantitative metrics (time execution, memory consumption, and CPU usage). Our results show which, under quantitative analysis, the MongoClient driver has presented a better performance than Mongoose driver in the considered scenarios, which may imply as the best alternative in the development of *** applications.

CryptDICE: Distributed data protection system for secure cloud data storage and computation

Cloud storage allows organizations to store data at remote sites of service providers. Although cloud storage services offer numerous benefits, they also involve new risks and challenges with respect to data security and privacy aspects. To preserve confidentiality, data must be encrypted before outsourcing to the cloud. Although this approach protects the security and privacy aspects of data, it also impedes regular functionality such as executing queries and performing analytical computations. To address this concern, specific data encryption schemes (e.g., deterministic, random, homomorphic, order-preserving, etc.) can be adopted that still support the execution of different types of queries (e.g., equality search, full-text search, etc.) over encrypted data. However, these specialized data encryption schemes have to be implemented and integrated in the application and their adoption introduces an extra layer of complexity in the application code. Moreover, as these schemes imply trade-offs between performance and security, storage efficiency, etc, making the appropriate trade-off is a challenging and non-trivial task. In addition, to support aggregate queries, User Defined Functions (UDF) have to be implemented directly in the database engine and these implementations are specific to each underlying data storage technology, which demands expert knowledge and in turn increases management complexity. In this paper, we introduce CryptDICE, a distributed data protection system that (i) provides builtin support for a number of different data encryption schemes, made accessible via annotations that represent application-specific (search) requirements;(ii) supports making appropriate trade-offs and execution of these encryption decisions at diverse levels of data granularity;and (iii) integrates a lightweight service that performs dynamic deployment of User Defined Functions (UDF) -without performing any alteration directly in the database engine- for heterogeneous NoS

Nowadays software architects face new challenges because Internet has grown to a point where popular websites are accessed by hundreds of millions of people on a daily basis. One powerful machine is no longer economically viable and resilient in order to handle such outstanding traffic and architectures have since been migrated to horizontal scaling. However, traditional databases, usually associated with a relational design, were not ready for horizontal scaling. Therefore, nosql databases have proposed to fill the gap left by their predecessors. This new paradigm is proposed to better serve currently massive scaled-up Internet usage when consistency is no longer a top priority and a high available service is preferable. Cassandra is a nosql database based on the Amazon Dynamo design. Dynamo-based databases are designed to run in a cluster while offering high availability and eventual consistency to clients when subject to network partition events. Therefore, the main goal of this work is to propose CBench-Dynamo, the first consistency benchmark for nosql databases. Our proposed benchmark correlates properties, such as performance, consistency, and availability, in different consistency configurations while subjecting the System Under Test to network partition events.

The heterogeneous massive logs incoming from multiple sources pose major challenges to professionals responsible for IT security and system administrator. One of the challenges is to develop a scalable heterogeneous logs database for storage and further analysis. In fact, it is difficult to decide which database is suitable for the needs, the best of a use case, execution time and storage performances. In this paper, we explore, study, and compare the performance of SQL and nosql databases on large heterogeneous event logs. We implement the relational database using MySQL, the column-oriented database using Impala on the top of Hadoop, and the graph database using Neo4j. We experiment the databases on a large heterogeneous logs and provide advice, the pros and cons of each SQL and nosql database. Our findings that Impala outperforms MySQL and Neo4j databases in terms of loading logs, execution time of simple queries, and storage of logs. However, Neo4j outperforms Impala and MySQL in the execution time of complex queries.

Launched in 2008, NIH's DSLD (https://***/dsld/) currently catalogs information printed on over 125,000 (historical and current) labels of dietary supplement products sold in the U.S. The database is maintained and updated continuously, and new versions deployed regularly. The new home page includes a prominent search bar and counter that displays the number of searchable labels in the database. The redesigned website yields near-instantaneous label retrieval, a more attractive layout of information, tailored search filters and download options, and the ability to view data in pictorial formats resulting in a much-improved user experience. The modernization of the DSLD ensures that this NIH resource has new forms of data delivery to meet the needs of App developers and data scientists, and improved performance for users. The DSLD is updated frequently to reflect the products sold in the rapidly evolving U.S. dietary supplement market.

In the past, Relational Database (RDB) is widely used to access data quickly because of high data accuracy and consistency. However, the Big Data era forces many industries to change RDB in order to process a huge amount of data in time. nosql (Not only SQL) database (nosql DB) is a tailor-made DB. Various industries can choose a suitable nosql DB to enhance their competitiveness according to their operational needs. But the data in RDB still need to be saved for company’s operation. How to convert data from RDB to nosql DB is an important issue. This paper proposes an algorithm to transfer an RDB to the Wide Column Store DB (WCSDB), one of the most popular nosql databases. The experiment results show that WCSDB performs better than RDB.

New generation databases also called nosql (Not only SQL) databases are highly scalable, flexible, and low-latent. These types of databases emerge as a result of the rigidity shown by traditional databases to handle today's data which is voluminous, highly diversified and generated at a very high rate. With nosql, problems such as database expansion difficulties, low query performance and low storage capacity are addressed. However, the inherent complexity of contemporary datasets coupled with programmers' low nosql modeling competence are increasingly making database modeling and design vastly challenging, especially when parameters like consistency, availability and scalability are to be balanced in accordance with system requirements. As such, a schema suggestion model for nosql databases is posed to address this balancing issue. The proposed model aims to abstractly suggest schemas at the initial stage of system development based on user defined system requirements and CRUD (Create, Read, Update and Delete) operations among others. This is achieved through the adaptation of exploratory and experimental approaches of research. Also, few mathematical formulas are introduced to calculate clusters availability during entity mappings. A comparison was conducted between the schema produced using the proposed model and the one without. Results obtained shows substantial improvement in the areas of security and read-write query performance.

Tool for materializing OWL ontologies in a column-oriented database

Big data technologies enable people to store, analyze, and utilize large amounts of complex data effectively. In this context, nosql (Not only Structured Query Language) databases have emerged as the most commonly used infrastructure for handling big Resource Description Framework data. In this paper, we present our proposal to materialize classified OWL (Web Ontology Language) ontologies in a nosql database. This materialization process enables the distributed storage of Resource Description Framework data by exploiting the inherent distribution of the nosql database nodes. Furthermore, this approach supposes the first step toward a novel approach to scalable OWL reasoning, which enables scalable Linked Data reasoning. To validate our proposal, we developed a prototype for a tool that stores an OWL ontology in a Cassandra database following our approach. Finally, we introduce our reasoning strategy to compute the ontology closure using this Cassandra database.

A Model-Driven Approach to Generate Schemas for Object-Document Mappers

Many actual nosql systems are schemaless, that is, the structure of the data is not defined beforehand in any schema, but it is implicit in the data itself. This characteristic is very convenient when the data structure suffers frequent changes. However, the agility and flexibility achieved is at the cost of losing some important benefits, such as 1) assuring that the data stored and retrieved fits the database schema;2) some database utilities require to know the schema, and;3) schema visualization helps developers to write better code. In previous work, we proposed a model-based reverse engineering approach to infer schema models from nosql data. Model-driven engineering (MDE) techniques can be used to take advantage of extracted models with different purposes, such as schema visualization or automatic code generation. Here, in this paper, we present an MDE solution to automate the usage of Object-nosql mappers when the database already exists. We will focus on mappers that are available for document systems (Object-Document mappers, ODMs), but the proposed approach is mapper-independent. These mappers are emerging to provide similar functionality to Object-Relational mappers: they are in charge of the mapping of objects into nosql data (documents in the case of ODMs) for object-oriented applications. We show how schemas and other artifacts (e.g. validators and indexes) for ODMs can be automatically generated from inferred schemas. The solution consists of a two-step model transformation chain, where an intermediate model is generated to ease the code generation. We have applied our approach for two popular ODMs: Mongoose and Morphia and validated it with the StackOverflow dataset.

Any relational database can be an electronic digital database by using the relational model of files/data since it is offered simply by E. F. Codd in 1970. Any computer software method is utilized to sustain relational sources can be a relational databases management system (RDBMS). Several relational databases methods provide an alternative regarding while using the queries and also keeping the particular databases. Any nosql (originally discussing "non-SQL or perhaps "non- relational") database offers a mechanism for safe-keeping of data and also a collection of info which is modeled. Because of nosql directories tend to be developing within recognition, integration associated with various nosql techniques as well as interoperability associated with nosql techniques along with SQL directories turn out to be an ever more essential issue. We have proposed the mixed method to extracting OLAP cubes from nosql data sources and make a standard data entry system with regard to nosql as well as SQL data source. Our proposed algorithm consists of 4 stages: shingling, chunk, minhashing as well as locality-sensitive hashing MapReduce (LSHMR). Every stage works an effective procedure upon entering nosql directories. Our proposed method and algorithm demonstrate over 75% involving productivity as opposed to other algorithms.
