The growing popularity of massively accessed Web applications that store and analyze large amounts of data, being Facebook, Twitter and Google Search some prominent examples of such applications, have posed new requirements that greatly challenge traditional RDBMS. In response to this reality, a new way of creating and manipulating data stores, known as nosql databases, has arisen. This paper reviews implementations of nosql databases in order to provide an understanding of current tools and their uses. First, nosql databases are compared with traditional RDBMS and important concepts are explained. Only databases allowing to persist data and distribute them along different computing nodes are within the scope of this review. Moreover, nosql databases are divided into different types: Key-Value, Wide-Column, Document-orierited and Graph oriented. In each case, a comparison of available databases is carried out based on their most important features. (C) 2016 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

From then till now, some different database models have been developed while relational database model is the most used one by businesses. The storage of enterprise data is more and more because of the popularization of big data collection technology and application fields. The user always expects to access database as fast as possible. The speed of relational databases is limited because of mass join operations. More and more enterprises have changed to use nosql database to store data. However, there are more than 200 kinds of nosql databases. How to choose an appropriate nosql database is an important issue because it will affect the performance of the enterprise operations. In this paper, we will analyze some of the nosql database models. Besides, we will propose some principles for enterprise to choose a suitable nosql database.

Social Networks nowadays are producing an enormous quantity of data, this data transformed into information could be useful for the decision support systems. A new emerging technology denominated as Sentiment Analysis or Opinion Meaning extracts the opinion or sentiment of a particular text. The Twitter social network is a source of valuable information in simple text and appropriated to use this technology. In this paper is described the process used to select the most suitable algorithms to analyze tweets for particular words written in Spanish, also the results obtained by every algorithm are reported.

FRlskill is a knowledge base management system designated for competence management in companies, universities and various other institutions and it allows to search employees by any key competencies or time availability. It is part of a project which is focused on HR and line managers and whose aim is to create possibilities for surveying, evaluating and planning organization competencies so that risks are reduced and efficiency during project acquisition and realization is enhanced. In this paper, the results of the project which have been achieved since 2016 are presented, especially individual parts and a demo version of our developed application. Competencies concept is investigated, the whole FRlskill system and its requirements are analyzed and its architecture is described, including trends in technologies. Displaying a tree of competences and a sophisticated search of employees are considered the most significant features of the FRIskill system. It may be said that FRIskill is able to simplify project planning in universities and other institutions.

Container orchestration systems, such as Docker Swarm, Kubernetes and Mesos, provide automated support for deployment and management of distributed applications as sets of containers. While these systems were initially designed for running load-balanced stateless services, they have also been used for running database clusters because of improved resilience attributes such as fast auto-recovery of failed database nodes, and location transparency at the level of TCP/IP connections between database instances. In this paper we evaluate the performance overhead of Docker Swarm and Kubernetes for deploying and managing nosql database clusters, with MongoDB as database case study. As the baseline for comparison, we use an OpenStack IaaS cloud that also allows attaining these improved resilience attributes although in a less automated manner.

During the last decade, we saw an explosion of geospatial data being produced. Most of which coming from GPS-enabled devices available for general consumers. The large amount of geotagged data coined the term `Geospatial Big Data', indicating the semi-structured and unstructured nature of such data. SQL relational databases have been known in the past to handle geospatial data very well. However, the abundance of geospatial big data pushed forward the need for nosql database which is expected to perform better in terms of handling and storing geospatial big data. This paper discusses the quantitative comparison of performance between the SQL (i.e., PostGIS) and nosql (i.e., MongoDB) databases in handling geospatial big data. A NodeJS-based angular-framework web app was developed to test the real-world performance of MongoDB and PostGIS in handling a large amount of simulated geospatial data. A different number of points were generated for testing the geospatial data storing and loading capability of both the databases. The test was conducted by comparing the result of XHR (XML HTTP Request) of both databases in each case. The result showed that nosql database, i.e. MongoDB, performs better in loading big geospatial data compared to traditional SQL database using PostGIS.

Most of the web and mobile applications today involve storage, processing and analysis of large datasets. The existing relational database systems are inadequate in handling the basic challenges introduced by these data-centric applications. This, consequently, has led to a new class of scalable and non-relational data management systems, referred to as nosql databases. nosql systems are characterized by their ability to scale horizontally and provide high availability. Apart from nosql, Hadoop framework and its constituent technologies are also synonymous with solutions for large data sets. This paper investigates the querying performance of a widely used nosql document store, MongoDB and compares its performance with respect to the Hadoop analytical language, Hive over a single node. The experimental results show that MongoDB yields a better performance than Hive for the considered dataset over a single node.

Internet of Things (IoT) is part of our life. Some studies predict a considerable increase of up to 5 times on the number of connected devices by 2020. A significant challenge is how to manage this amount of data generated. In this paper, a hybrid storage architecture for IoT is proposed. The most used nosql databases types and two essential types of data of IoT sensors were selected. The results suggest that architecture is a feasible approach to address the ever-growing amount of data generated in IoT. Additionally, after an architecture evaluation, the results have shown that Redis achieved better overall performance.

Handling data in this current era of Data Science is the biggest challenge. Most of the data practioners moved their path of research in understanding behavior of system. These behaviors are like sentiments;which are of many types;published and publishing in social networks. These sentiments are evolving at exponential level and becoming crucial for behavioral study of system. Analysis over such sentiments helps in prediction for increasing the profitable of the system. To do this, sentiments must be modelled. As sentiments are evolving explosively traditional approaches are not apt for modelling sentiments;as a result nosql databases were exploited for such applications. This paper emphasis on why DBDBs (Document Based databases), nosql databases;has gaining momentum for handling sentiments. To do this bulk number of sentiments over social networks are taken into interpretation;using MongoDB and CouchDB these sentiments are exploited for analysis.

The goal of the article is to evaluate the benefits of the nosql approach for implementation of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance database compliant to STANAG 4559 NATO Standard ISR Library Interface. The first part of the article introduces the intelligence cycle, the key standard for the interoperable sharing of tactical intelligence products and issues of relational databases which led to the introduction of nosql approach. In the second part of the article is discussed implementation of STANAG 4559 compliant database both in relational and nosql database. We discuss limitations of both solutions, and we propose hybrid approach based on metadata based enrichment of the stored document to enable efficient and flexible querying.
