In recent years, with the progress of IoT, the entry data from various sensors is accumulated on the cloud server and used for various analyses as big data. On the other hand, in order to transfer a large amount of data to the cloud server, there were the problems such as the restriction of network bandwidth, and the delay of feedback control of the sensors. For these problems, Fog computing has been proposed in which the primary processing of the sensor data is performed at the fog node installed near the sensors, and only its processing results are transferred to the cloud server. However, in this method, in the case where the original data of the sensor is required for various analyses at the cloud server, such a data must be transferred additionally. That is, a mechanism is necessary to manage the data of the entire system and to mutually utilize it. In this paper, I propose a data model which consists of three levels: the first level saves the original sensor data and is placed in the fog node;the second level saves the extraction data extracted by the primary processing;the third level saves the analysis results data. The second and third levels are placed in the cloud server. And, by constructing this data model with a distributed database, it can be performed efficiently to refer the arbitrary original sensor data in the fog nodes from the cloud server. Moreover, I implement this reference processing in two ways using MongoDB, which is a kind of nosql database, to evaluate this data model. And, I show it is necessary to select the reference way according to the system environment: the network bandwidth, the database performance of the fog node and cloud server, and the number of the fog nodes.

This paper describes an information repository to support bridge monitoring applications on a cloud computing platform. Bridge monitoring, with instrumentation of sensors in particular, collects significant amount of data. In addition to sensor data, a wide variety of information such as bridge geometry, analysis model and sensor description need to be stored. Data management plays an important role to facilitate data utilization and data sharing. While bridge information modeling (BrIM) technologies and standards have been proposed and they provide a means to enable integration and facilitate interoperability, current BrIM standards support mostly the information about bridge geometry. In this study, we extend the BrIM schema to include analysis models and sensor information. Specifically, using the OpenBrIM standards as the base, we draw on CSI Bridge, a commercial software widely used for bridge analysis and design, and SensorML, a standard schema for sensor definition, to define the data entities necessary for bridge monitoring applications. nosql database systems are employed for data repository. Cloud service infrastructure is deployed to enhance scalability, flexibility and accessibility of the data management system. The data model and systems are tested using the bridge model and the sensor data collected at the Telegraph Road Bridge, Monroe, Michigan.

The Linguistic Annotation Framework (LAF) provides an abstract data model for specifying interchange representations to ensure interoperability among different annotation formats. This paper describes an ongoing effort to adapt the LAF data model as the interchange representation in complex workflows as used in the Language Analysis Portal (LAP), an on-line and large-scale processing service that is developed as part of the Norwegian branch of the Common Language Resources and Technology Infrastructure (CLARIN) initiative. Unlike several related on-line processing environments, which predominantly instantiate a distributed architecture of web services, LAP achives scalability to potentially very large data volumes through integration with the Norwegian national e-Infrastructure, and in particular job sumission to a capacity compute cluster. This setup leads to tighter integration requirements and also calls for efficient, low-overhead communication of (intermediate) processing results with workflows. We meet these demands by coupling the LAF data model with a lean, non-redundant JSON-based interchange format and integration of an agile and performant nosql database, allowing parallel access from cluster nodes, as the central repository of linguistic annotation.

Cloud computing, supported by advancements in virtualisation and distributed computing, became the default options for implementing the IT infrastructure of organisations. Medical data and in particular medical images have increasing storage space and remote access requirements. Cloud computing satisfies these requirements but unclear safeguards on data security can expose sensitive data to possible attacks. Furthermore, recent changes in legislation imposed additional security constraints in technology to ensure the privacy of individuals and the integrity of data when stored in the cloud. In contrast with this trend, current data security methods, based on encryption, create an additional overhead to the performance, and often they are not allowed in public cloud servers. Hence, this paper proposes a mechanism that combines data fragmentation to protect medical images on the public cloud servers, and a nosql database to secure an efficient organisation of such data. Results of this paper indicate that the latency of the proposed method is significantly lower if compared with AES, one of the most adopted data encryption mechanisms. Therefore, the proposed method is an optimal trade-off in environments with low latency requirements or limited resources.

Ontologies provide shared and reusable pieces of knowledge about a specific domain. Building an ontology by hand is a very hard and prone to errors task. Ontology learning from existing resources provides a good solution to this issue. databases are widely used to store data. They were often considered as the most reliable sources for knowledge extraction. nosql databases are more and more used to store data. MongoDB database is emerging as the fastest growing nosql database in the world. It belongs to the document oriented databases variant. This paper proposes an approach to learn OWL ontology from data in MongoDB database and describes a tool implementing transformation rules.

Cloud computing and cloud storage systems are being used more and more in a variety of domains, from everyday user applications like healthcare monitoring systems and intelligent buildings to military devices. The deployment of these frameworks also enables modern control and automation paradigms found in cyber-physical systems and Industry 4.0. Driven by exponential decreases in computing and storage costs along with high bandwidth, low-latency communication networks, cloud-based infrastructures have increasingly been adopted in large-scale industrial applications. Our paper proposes hierarchical or key-value databases for systems that gather a very big number of data items from a variety of sensors, with focus on smart building and smart city scenarios. We discuss GT.M as a key-value database engine, optimized for transaction processing with a very high throughput. Results of a simulation-based study comparing hierarchical and relational database performance for several types of operations are presented.

Due to advancement in cloud computing technology and significant growth in database technology, database as a Service (DBaaS) has become the breakaway technology of the recent era. It is the paramount solution for managing and administering the outsourced databases. Though the users are availed through the database services, the security of databases being outsourced is not guaranteed as the database service provider can be deceitful. Therefore, implementing the security in outsourced databases is a grand challenge. In this paper, we have proposed a secure framework for achieving the confidentiality, integrity in outsourced databases using the customized secret sharing approach and polynomial interpolation. The completeness and correctness dimensions are considered for achieving the integrity. To the best of our findings, our framework is the first which provides security solutions to alphanumeric data, string, special symbols and any kind of database including nosql databases which support hash index. The multiple indexing in our research allows the user to search and process the query efficiently based on multiple searchable attributes.

In this study, an interface software to be used during the transfer of data from the internet of things, social networks and other data sources to a nosql data source is proposed. First of all, it was investigated what the internet of things, big data and nosql technologies are discussed in academic studies, where they are used and what kind of data they produce. There have not been enough resources and studies on how and to which nosql database will be used and processed big data consisting of various data sources in heterogeneous data form coming from internet of things applications and social networks. In this study, it is about an interface software that will help the nosql database to analyze, store and use these data sources, especially those with heterogeneous structure, from a large number of data from different sources that make up big data. It is thought that the proposed approach will be useful for researchers who are just starting to work in the big data field.

Big data applications that rely on relational databases gradually expose limitations on scalability and performance. In recent years, Hadoop ecosystem has been widely adopted as an evolving solution. This paper presents the migration of a legacy data analytics application in a provincial data center. The target platform follows "no one size fits all" method. Considering different workloads, data storage is hybrid with distributed file system (HDFS) and distributed nosql database. Beyond the architecture re-design, we focus on the problem of data model transformation from relational database to nosql database. We propose a query-aware approach to free developers from tedious manual work. The approach generates query-specific views (NoView) for nosql and re-structures the views to align with nosql's data model. Our results show that the migrated application achieves high scalability and high performance. We believe that our practice provides valuable insights (such as nosql data modeling methodology), and the techniques can be easily applied to other similar migrations.
