Production equipment monitoring is implemented in emerging applications of Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). The goal of monitoring is detection of technical state and utilization condition. The collected data form the basis of so called "digital twin". In this paper, we introduce a semantic space-time event representation model, which is used for data fusion of multiple events on technical state and utilization condition of production equipment. The model describes monitoring objects and their surrounding context. The model considers a hierarchy of production equipment nodes and implements rules for identifying and composing events in the production process. The model is oriented to a graph database for collecting and linking the evens in space and time dimensions. As a result, efficient search queries can be used to construct diagnostic and predictive services on top of the database.

In the research, the authors focus on the problem of a big data analytics: the fast search, reading and editing the data stored in systems operating with the data containing a great number (ex., about a billion) of records. The methods suggested in the current report have large opportunities of practical applications. The report extends the use of specialized databases. In particular, research was devoted to the use of Object Relational Mapping (ORM) technology for not relational databases. All operations were performed on specialized Polar system, the original implementation of Institute of Information Systems of Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Science. The authors have implemented complex ORM Polar system and performed the research to increase its efficiency. The suggested method of the disk space optimization provides significant accelerating of the data search for not-indexed fields. The original scheme of data placing in the Polar system for ORM solution considerably increases the overall performance of the generalized ORM Polar system. All received results were compared to the similar results received for some popular relational DBMS. The executed research confirmed prospects of Polar system use as DBMS for big data, and also proved the possibility of the effective use of ORM technology for it.

Today, scalable and high-available nosql distributed databases are largely used as Big Data platforms. Such distributed databases typically run on a virtualized infrastructure that could be implemented using Hypervisorb ased virtualiz ation or Container-based virtualiz ation. Hypervisor-based virtualization is a mature technology but imposes overhead on CPU, memory, networking, and disk Recently, by sharing the operating system resources and simplifying the deployment of applications, container-based virtualization is getting more popular. Container-based virtualization is lightweight in resource consumption while also providing isolation. However, disadvantages are security issues and 110 performance. As a result, today these two technologies are competing to provide virtual instances for running big data platforms. Hence, a key issue becomes the assessment of the performance of those virtualization technologies while running distributed databases. This paper presents an extensive performance comparison between VMware and Docker container, while running Apache Cassandra as workload. Apache Cassandra is a leading nosql distributed database when it comes to Big Data platforms. As baseline for comparisons we used the Cassandra's performance when running on a physical infrastructure. Our study shows that Docker had lower overhead compared to the VMware when running Cassandra. In fact, the Cassandra's performance on the Dockerized infrastructure was as good as on the Non-Virtualized.

Currently companies need database engines able to process and store massive quantity of data. Traditional databases due to the large amount of unstructured data have trouble processing this amount of data in an acceptable time for businesses. To solve these problems recently emerged the nosql databases, offering great performance, flexibility and scalability. In this paper we evaluate the performance and scalability of a popular nosql database, Voldemort, using Yahoo! Cloud Serving Benchmark.

This paper explores scalable implementation strategies for carrying out lazy schema evolution in nosql data stores. For decades, schema evolution has been an evergreen in database research. Yet new challenges arise in the context of cloud-hosted data backends: With all database reads and writes charged by the provider, migrating the entire data instance eagerly into a new schema can be prohibitively expensive. Thus, lazy migration may be more cost-efficient, as legacy entities are only migrated in case they are actually accessed by the application. Related work has shown that the overhead of migrating data lazily is affordable when a single evolutionary change is carried out, such as adding a new property. In this paper, we focus on long-term schema evolution, where chains of pending schema evolution operations may have to be applied. Chains occur when legacy entities written several application releases back are finally accessed by the application. We discuss strategies for dealing with chains of evolution operations, in particular, the composition into a single, equivalent composite migration that performs the required version jump. Our experiments with MongoDB focus on scalable implementation strategies. Our lineup further compares the number of write operations, and thus, the operational costs of different data migration strategies.

Container orchestration systems, such as Docker Swarm, Kubernetes and Mesos, provide automated support for deployment and management of distributed applications as sets of containers. While these systems were initially designed for running load-balanced stateless services, they have also been used for running database clusters because of improved resilience attributes such as fast auto-recovery of failed database nodes, and location transparency at the level of TCP/IP connections between database instances. In this paper we evaluate the performance overhead of Docker Swarm and Kubernetes for deploying and managing nosql database clusters, with MongoDB as database case study. As the baseline for comparison, we use an OpenStack IaaS cloud that also allows attaining these improved resilience attributes although in a less automated manner.

Research in data science field has pointed out analytical potentials contained in big data on numerous occasions. The new paradigms in data storage and processing emerged with the goal of handling big data, but also pushing traditional, already present systems out of focus and creating a gap between the old and the new. That was also the case with traditional data warehouses and emergence of nosql data stores, whose integration has shown to be quite problematic due to nosql and big data features. Latest research has been trying to overcome this gap in various ways, mostly by system integration on various levels or introducing completely different new ones, but due to the data warehouse's particular nature and strict process of data modelling and acquisition, this problem must be approached on a conceptual level, capturing the essence of the domain which is to be analysed. The lack of schema in nosql databases makes them less comprehensible for integration and analysis, which motivated the idea of employing semantics to enrich nosql database contents, making them more suitable for integration. This paper analyses ways in which semantics could be applied as an asset in bringing together data warehouses, nosql databases, and big data.

Data de-duplication has an important role in reducing storage consumption to make it affordable to manage in today's explosive data growth. Numerous DD methodologies like chunking and, delta encoding are available to optimize the use of storage. These technologies approach DD at file and/or sub-file level but this approach has never been optimal for nosql DBs. This method proposes data De-Duplication in nosql databases (DDNSDB) which makes use of a DD approach at a higher level of abstraction. The main goals of this research is, to maximally reduce the amount of duplicates in one type of nosql DBs, namely the key-value store, to maximally increase the process performance such that the backup window is marginally affected, and to design with horizontal scaling in mind such that it would run on a Cloud Platform competitively. Also, by following an optimized adapted Map Reduce architecture, DDNSDB proves to have competitive performance advantage in a horizontal scaling cloud environment compared with a vertical scaling environment.

The advent of Web 2.0 and the diffusion of cloud computing technologies recently moved the focus of industry and academia to new ways to store information. Web 2.0 applications require new solutions that allow to efficiently store and compute huge amounts of data, providing high performance, high scalability and availability at low costs. Even though relational databases are mature and offer powerful tools to manage data, their scalability limits have brought some of the largest IT companies to adopt less mature solutions, known as nosql databases. In 2000, a conjecture, formalized afterwards as the CAP theorem, concerning the Consistency (C), Availability (A) and Partition tolerance (P) of distributed systems was formulated. In this paper we propose a methodology based on the CAP theorem and a framework for the assessment of the CAP properties of cloud nosql systems. Furthermore, we provide the results of an extensive set of experiments we performed on Amazon SimpleDB and Windows Azure Table Storage for comparing quantitatively Availability and Consistency of such systems.

Few can deny the diverse applications of nosql Database technology today. The last decade has witnessed an exponential rise in not only data generation but also in the manipulation and management of the same. nosql Technologies have engendered a new platform for large enterprises to come up and have provided them a wide vista for data manipulation. Moreover, existing technologies have been augmented with the unique features that this technology offers. Apache Cassandra is one of the leading nosql databases today. The rise of Cassandra has also given rise to corresponding high level client drivers. There are several drivers present today for interfacing Cassandra with languages such as PHP, Java, C++, etc. However, to the best of our knowledge, no such driver for C exists. This paper proposes such a driver, 'Cascket' that allows direct communication of Cassandra over C without the existence of a middle-ware.
