Since the traditional relational database systems are not capable of following the contemporary requirements on Big Data processing, a family of nosql databases emerged. It is not an exception for such systems not to require an explicit schema for the data they store. Nevertheless, application developers must maintain at least the so-called implicit schema. In certain situations, however, the presence of an explicit schema is still necessary, and so it makes sense to propose methods capable of schema inference just from the structure of the available data. In the context of document nosql databases, namely those assuming the JSON data format, we focus on several representatives of the existing inference approaches and provide their thorough comparison. Although they are often based on similar principles, their features, support for the detection of references, union types, or required and optional properties differ greatly. We believe that without adequately tackling their disadvantages we identified, uniform schema inference and modeling of the multi-model data simply cannot be pursued straightforwardly.

Database driven software applications are becoming more sophisticated and complex. The behavior of these systems solely depends on the data being used. Whereas this data has now become so massive, varyingly connected, distributed, and stored and retrieved with different velocity, era of big data. To make these systems operate in every anticipated environment with the required usability, durability and security, they are subjected to rigorous testing using the available Software Testing Techniques (STT). This test is described as a process of confirming correct behavior of a piece of software which consists of three parts, namely, interface (GUI), back-end (codes) and data-source (database). The purpose of this study is to identify and analyze existing STT in the context of databases design structures. Primary studies related to ST were identified using search terms with relevant keywords. These were classified under journal and conference articles, book chapters, workshops, and symposiums. Out of the search results, 23 Primary studies were selected. Database testing has been significantly discussed in the software testing domain. However, it was discovered that, existing software testing techniques suffer from several limitations which includes: incompatibility with new generation databases, lack of scalability and embedded SQL query detection issues. In addition, application of existing techniques into a full-fledged software system has not been reported yet.

The standardized Electronic Health Records (EHRs) database aims to support a web based data management system activity, at global level. The standardized EHRs (archetype-based systems) will have portable queries. At the present stage, a number of tools and interfaces are being proposed. However, it is important to develop a suitable query capability that matches the level of a database query language, such as SQL or XQuery. We demonstrate a high-level query language interface for healthcare workers based on our earlier studies. The development involves two phases. The first phase is dynamic generation of graphical user interface from archetypes. The second phase is providing high-level querying functionality. The system has been developed using free software and has been tested for sample set of fifteen queries for relational database operations using nosql persistence (MongoDB). The proposal is successful in enhancing the ease of use for hospital workers in medical and healthcare domain.

Technologies such as cloud computing and big data management, have lately made significant progress creating an urgent need for specific databases that can safely store extensive data along with high availability. Specifically, a growing number of companies have adopted various types of non-relational databases, commonly referred to as nosql databases. These databases provide a robust mechanism for the storage and retrieval of large amounts of data without using a predefined schema. nosql platforms are superior to RDBMS, especially in cases when we are dealing with big data and parallel processing, and in particular, when there is no need to use relational modeling. Sensitive data is stored daily in nosql databases, making the privacy problem more serious while raising essential security issues. In our paper, security and privacy issues when dealing with nosql databases are introduced and in following, security mechanisms and privacy solutions are thoroughly examined.

This paper introduces SofEA, a pool-based architecture built over CouchDB for distributing evolutionary algorithms (EAs) across computer network in an asynchronous and decentralized way. nosql databases are designed to fulfill performance and scalability requirements, normally by allowing data to be stored without a fixed schema. For this reason, it is not rare that new usage and performance requirements appear during a system's life cycle, demanding changes to be made in the schema, challenging the developer with extra adaptation effort to update data access code (database queries). The literature presents some solutions to reduce this effort by making queries independent from the schema, but the solutions are normally restricted to simple queries or a predefined mapping. In this paper, we present evidence showing that a classic ER algebra and a Model Management approach can be used to implement a solution that works with complex queries in any schema. The algebra defines operations that can be used by developers to specify complex queries in terms of Entities and Relationships. We created a language for this algebra, with a concrete syntax and a generative operational semantics targeting a document-oriented database. As in Model Management, the generative semantics is guided by the mapping information between Entities, Relationships, and Documents, and is able to generate, for a single ER-based input query, native query code for different schemas, all producing the same results in terms of data structure. Test results show that our implementation is consistent with the algebra's definition, producing evidence that this approach can lead to schema independence in complex nosql queries.

Schema-flexible nosql data stores lend themselves nicely for storing versioned data, a product of schema evolution. In this lightning talk, we apply pending schema changes to records that have been persisted several schema versions back. We present first experiments with MongoDB and Cassandra, where we explore the trade-off between applying chains of pending changes stepwise (one after the other), and as composite operations. Contrary to intuition, composite migration is not necessarily faster. The culprit is the computational overhead for deriving the compositions. However, caching composition formulae achieves a speed up: For Cassandra, we can cut the runtime by nearly 80%. Surprisingly, the relative speedup seems to be system-dependent. Our take away message is that in applying pending schema changes in nosql data stores, we need to base our design decisions on experimental evidence rather than on intuition alone.

The diversity and proliferation of Knowledge bases have made data integration one of the key challenges in the data science domain. The imperfect representations of entities, particularly in graphs, add additional challenges in data integration. Graph dependencies (GDs) were investigated in existing studies for the integration and maintenance of data quality on graphs. However, the majority of graphs contain plenty of duplicates with high diversity. Consequently, the existence of dependencies over these graphs becomes highly uncertain. In this paper, we proposed graph probabilistic dependencies (GPDs) to address the issue of uncertainty over these large-scale graphs with a novel class of dependencies for graphs. GPDs can provide a probabilistic explanation for dealing with uncertainty while discovering dependencies over graphs. Furthermore, a case study is provided to verify the correctness of the data integration process based on GPDs. Preliminary results demonstrated the effectiveness of GPDs in terms of reducing redundancies and inconsistencies over the benchmark datasets.

Netscape first provided a grand unification of sorts by offering a single, uniform interface to resources spread across the globe. Simple HTML interfaces to CGI (and later PHP) scripts provided the second grand unification-as suddenly software developers did not need to worry about client software distribution any more. Both Java and Javascript attempted (in their own ways) to enhance the degree of sophistication of the end-user experience. Protocols and technologies came and went (xml-rpc, SOAP, Java RMI, OpenLaszlo, etc.) while the typical web development solution slowly converged towards a (now traditional) LAMP stack architecture. As web development projects became more demanding, frameworks like Spring and Rails (for Ruby) demonstrated the viability of the MVC pattern and helped spawn replicas (CakePHP, Django, Grails, etc.) into other communities. Today it's fair to say that the move towards the MVC architectures was just another (spontaneous, unplanned) attempt to unify development over the web. Simplicity often tends to be a great focal point of evolution. In the last 5-6 years another type of unification became possible due to the surprising resurgence of a most unlikely candidate: Javascript. First Javascript was the glue that made possible the ideas behind HTML5 (as an entirely new set of APIs, and not just a new set of tags). Then in 2009 with the first release of *** (relying on Google's Javascript V8 engine) the creation of web servers and networking tools using JavaScript became not just possible, but also extremely efficient. These days, using MongoDB as the document database, *** as the server platform (with Express as a flexible and robust server-side web application framework) along with AngularJS (by Google) for the GUIs on the client side, developers are finally capable of creating more agile software by using a single language across all layers of application development. Intelligent manufacturing is a new trend that is a deep integration of information and industrialization. As to the information, database is very important. For the past 20 years, relational databases have been widely used in a lot of fields because of their rich feature, such as query capabilities and transaction management and so on. However, they do not have the capacity of storing and processing a large number of data effectively, and at the same time, they are not very efficient to make transactions and join operations. In order to adapt to the new demand, some of new databases have been invented which are not in accordance with relational model. These databases are known as nosql. The underlying data and transaction model of the nosql are different from relational database. Some of organizations have shown much interest in nosql and adopted this new technology, which promote further research on the nosql. In this thesis, we research nosql database about their origin and characteristics. Then, we compare between one of the nosql database, MongoDB, to the standard relational database, SQL Server. We contrast their performance from different aspects. Results show that MongoDB performs better than the relational database.
