Modern nosql databases use log-structured merge (LSM) storage architectures to support high write throughput. LSM architectures aggregate writes in a mutable MemTabte (stored in memory), which is regularly flushed to disk, creating a new immutable file called an SSTable. Periodically, some of the SSTables are chosen to be merged - replaced with a single SSTable containing their union. A merge policy (a.k.a. compaction policy) specifies when to do merges and which SSTables to combine. A bounded depth merge policy is one that guarantees that the number of SSTables never exceeds a given parameter k, typically in the range 3-10. Bounded-depth policies are useful in applications where low read latency is crucial, but they and their underlying combinatorics are not yet well understood. This paper compares several bounded-depth policies, including representative policies from industrial nosql databases and two new ones based on recent theoretical modeling. The results validate the proposed theoretical model and show that, compared to the existing policies, the newly proposed policies can have substantially lower write amplification.

nosql databases have been emerged in order to handle very huge amount of data granting fault tolerance availability and scalability. In these contexts Relational databases are usually unsuitable to store data for this reason the adaptation and migration from a relational database to a nosql database could be favorable. In this paper we proposes a migration system of data from Relational to a nosql databases with Model Driven Architecture (MDA). The approach is made up of a set of transformation rules as a mechanism to extract the graph schemas from the logical description of the relational database. As a result we have implemented an Eclipse based prototype that generates from the source database the graph database for Neo4J.

The computing field has a low level of gender diver-sity, being predominantly male. This diversity gap is reflected at different academic levels, ranging from undergraduate degrees to master's and doctoral qualifications. As in other parts of the world, the University of Brasilia, one of the top 10 universities in Brazil, has a low rate of women in Computing in its graduate programs. According to data from CAPES (Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel in Brazil), the computing area is one of the areas of Exact Sciences with the lowest number of women proportionally in Brazil. In this context, this paper aims to present an analysis of the number of publications and scientific collaborations related to the gender of researchers in the Graduate Program in Informatics (PPG I) at the University of Brasilia. To develop this research, technologies such as scraping were used to collect data from the program's professors, articles published (only full papers in conferences and academic journals) by them and names of the people who collaborated in the preparation of the articles, a database graph-based nosql was used to generate the relationship networks. A relationship network was created, in which it was possible to analyze the relationship level of each professor in the program. As initial results, the average number of articles published is the same by gender, we did not find significant differences in the number of publications between men and women. In the study we only counted the number of publications, we did not analyze the impact of the publications. Regarding collaborations, initial results indicate that women are more collaborative than men in the program, with a higher degree of collaboration than the average for male researchers. In general, in the partial results, collaboration networks for journals and conferences present the same result, that female researchers proportionally collaborate more than men, both internally (publications co

This paper proposes the system realizing integrated use of Relational databases and a nosql Database. A heterogeneous information source integration system has been proposed. It enables equi-join and projection of tables without converting data. With this system, it became possible to handle various databases at the same time by using JDBC, but the databases which can be handled are only relational databases. Therefore, we add functions to the system to handle the nosql database which has been increasingly used in recent years. The table join execution time and the memory consumption of the system are experimentally evaluated. It showed that the performance is tolerable in practical use as compared with integrated use of only relational database. We also showed that it is practical to change the join order or to register column families which are unique elements of HBase.

Privacy and data security are critical aspects in databases, mainly when the latter are publically accessed such in social networks. Furthermore, for advanced databases, such as nosql ones, security models and security meta-data must be integrated to the business specification and data. In the literature, the proposed models for nosql databases can be considered as static, in the sense where the privileges for a given user are predefined and remain unchanged during job sessions. In this paper, we propose a novel model for nosql database access control that we aim that it will be dynamic. To be able to design such model, we have considered the Trust concept to compute the reputation degree for a given user that plays a given role.

Software- as-a-service applications in cloud computing are generally multitenant in nature. Higher performance gains can be expected if the underlying database of an application is also multi-tenant. Traditionally, relational databases have been utilized in shared-database and shared schema manner to store all tenants' data within the same tables of common database. This results in problems while extending or modifying an existing schema as well as inflexibility while retrieving a specific tenant's data. Therefore, this paper presents an approach whereby a document-oriented database system is used to implement multi-tenancy in SaaS applications. The proposed approach uses the flexibility of schema design in document databases along with the sharding feature to implement efficient tenant data storage while maintaining isolation between tenants. A case study is also presented to illustrate the proposed approach.

The advancement of technology in the creation of new tools to solve problems such as information storage generates proportionally developing methods that search for security flaws or breaches that compromise said information. The need to periodically generate security reports on database managers is given by the complexity and number of attacks that can be carried out today. This project seeks to carry out an evaluation of the security of nosql database managers. The work methodology is developed according to the order of the objectives, it begins by synthesizing the types of vulnerabilities, attacks and protection schemes limited to MongoDB, Redis and Apache Cassandra. Once established, a prototype of a web system that stores information with a non-relational database will be designed on which a series of attacks defined by a test plan will be applied seeking to add, consult, modify or eliminate information. Finally, a report will be presented that sets out the attacks carried out, the way in which they were applied, the results, possible countermeasures, security advantages and disadvantages for each manager and the conclusions obtained. Thus, it is possible to select which tool is more convenient to use for a person or organization in a particular case. The results showed that MongoDB is more vulnerable to nosql injection attacks, Redis is more vulnerable to attacks registered in the CVE and that Cassandra is more complex to use but is less vulnerable.

nosql systems are used to manage massive databases that verify 3V: Volume, Variety and Velocity. Generally, these systems are known by the characteristic "schema less" which means that we can create a database without defining the data schema beforehand. This property offers more flexibility and speed by allowing the evolution of the data model during the exploitation of the base. However, to formulate queries on the database, the user needs a precise knowledge of data model. In this article, we propose a process for the automatic extraction of the conceptual model of a document-oriented nosql database. To do this, we use the Model Driven Architecture (MDA) architecture that provides a formal framework for automatic model transformation. From a nosql database, we propose a set of transformation rules with QVT to generate the conceptual model in the form of a UML class diagram. An experimentation of the extraction process was carried out on an application in the medical field.

This paper discusses the inherent challenges of SQL and nosql object mapping, primarily focusing on the heterogeneity of data models and its impact on database relationship. In nosql databases, relationships between entities can be defined using references or embedded objects. Each method has its advantages and trade-offs, and different nosql DBMS adopt different strategies based on their design principles and use cases. We examine how different SQL Database Management Systems (DBMS) handle relationships between entities, specifically comparing the use of embedded objects in MongoDB with the graph-based reference system in Neo4J. Object mapping is built using property graphs that represent the schema in the database. The framework was tested using the hospital information system medical record module. The results of this study show that the object mapping that has been built can run query commands on three distinct types of databases: MySQL, MongoDB, and Neo4j.
