The column-oriented nosql systems propose a flexible and highly denormalized data schema that facilitates data warehouse scalability. However, the implementation process of data warehouses with nosql databases is a challenging task as it involves a distributed data management policy on multi-nodes clusters. Indeed, in column-oriented nosql systems, the query performances can be improved by a careful data grouping. In this paper, we present a method that uses clustering techniques, in particular k-means, to model the better form of column families, from existing fact and dimensional tables. To validate our method, we adopt TPC-DS data benchmark. We have conducted several experiments to examine the benefits of clustering techniques for the creation of column families in a column-oriented nosql HBase database on Hadoop platform. Our experiments suggest that defining a good data grouping on HBase database during the implementation of a data warehouse increases significantly the performance of the decisional queries.

nosql (Not Only SQL) is the generic term of a kind of non-relational database products. This paper, firstly, lists the disadvantages of traditional relational databases, introduces nosql databases including their advantages, disadvantages and their application status. Then, a comparison is made between nosql databases and SQL database, also another comparison between different nosql products. Finally, we introduce the architecture and data model of HBase database, which is a representative of nosql databases, and did some performance tests on HBase database, including the column family test, the sort test, the random read/write test and the query test. Test results show that written and query speed of HBase is slow under a single machine environment, but can be significantly improved in multi machine cluster environment.

The proliferation of geospatial applications has tremendously increased the variety, velocity, and volume of spatial data that data stores have to manage. Traditional relational databases reveal limitations in handling such big geospatial data. mainly due to their rigid schema requirements and limited scalability. Numerous nosql databases have emerged and actively serve as alternative data stores for big spatial data. Benchmarks play a crucial role in evaluating nosql databases and provide decision-makers with trustworthy information to choose the most suitable data store for applications. In this study, we present a framework to evaluate the performance and scalability of geospatial nosql databases, called GeoYCSB. We extend YCSB, a de facto benchmark framework for nosql systems, by integrating new components to its design architecture and also by implementing geospatial workloads. We use GeoYCSB to evaluate two leading document stores, MongoDB and Couchbase, which support geospatial queries. GeoYCSB is extensible and can be used to evaluate any nosql databases for geospatial workloads, provided they support spatial queries.

This paper presents a logical database design methodology for a MongoDB nosql database. Given a query, the design methodology is able to assist database designers to determine the best set of configurations of data, also known elsewhere as scheme trees, in the database such that the retrieval time of the query can be minimal or reduced. The design methodology first models an application of interest with a conceptual model. Based on our previous researches, the design methodology then generates from the conceptual model as few scheme trees as possible, which will eventually be implemented as MongoDB's collections in the database. To illustrate the design methodology, the COVID-19 data set was downloaded as an example application. The design methodology first conceptualized the data set with an Entity-Relationship model. Multiples queries were then devised to access various parts of the date set, whose executions required retrievals of the attribute values of all or some of the entity types and/or the relationship in the ER model. The design methodology then generated the best sets of scheme trees for the queries.

Many research papers and books say that nosql databases were born to support big data and it is a well-known big data tool. Like the three V's of volume, variety, and velocity, numerous aspects describe dig data. This paper's primary objective is to investigate how nosql databases handle the variety of data, namely binary unstructured data, which is typically media assets like picture, audio, and video files. We chose the nosql databases based on the DB engines ranking, the first database from each nosql type: MongoDB, Redis, Cassandra, and Neo4j.

The majority of data kept in organizations are in unstructured arrangement including text, sound, video etc. The scope of the keywords is in recovering required documents in a web look or to brief documents for ranking purposes. Keywords are the minutest segments which is used to represent a textual document and are frequently used to point to the most pertinent data contained in texts. Extracting keywords and key phrases is mainly used for identifying content of a document. In this research, we introduce a keyword and key phrase-based extraction approach using MongoDB which is a nosql database. By using this new method, documents are queried and ranked with the help of the keyword or keyphrases which is decided and specified by the user in a query. This result can be considered as a measure to decide the Key Performance Indicator of any business organization.

Social media data analysis demonstrates two special characteristics in Big Data processing. First, most analyses focus on data subsets related to specific social events or activities instead of the whole dataset. Second, analysis workflows consist of multiple stages, and algorithms applied in each stage may use different computation and communication patterns depending on processing frameworks. This paper presents our efforts in supporting the data storage and processing requirements for such characteristics. To achieve efficient queries about target data subsets, we propose a general customizable and scalable indexing framework that can be built over distributed nosql databases. This framework allows users to define suitable customized index structures for their query patterns against social media data, and supports scalable indexing of both historical and streaming data. We implement this framework on HBase, and name it IndexedHBase. Starting from IndexedHBase, we build a distributed analysis stack based on YARN to support analysis algorithms using different processing frameworks, such as Hadoop MapReduce, Harp, and Giraph. This analysis stack is used to host the Truthy social media data observatory, and we have applied the customized index structures in supporting both query evaluation and sophisticated analysis algorithms. Performance tests show that our solutions outperform implementations using both direct raw data scans and current indexing mechanisms in existing nosql databases.

For over four decades, Relational database management systems RDBMS have been the primary model for data storage, retrieval and management. However, due to the continuous information growth in current organizations and the increasing needs for scalability and performance, specially while handling a very huge amount of data that generated by various new generation real time applications or social networking sites that could be unstructured or semi-structured data, poses a set of challenges to the existing RDBMS Vendors. Such challenges have created a need for adaptation alternative technologies in the field of data storage and manipulation. nosql technology is the alternative category of Database Management Systems that have been emerged as the solution to the ever-growing data requirements. In this paper, the advantages and the limitations of relational databases we will be presented. The nosql data model, types of nosql data stores, characteristics of each data store, advantages and disadvantages of nosql over RDBMS will also be discussed. The paper helps the interest users to take a review of the different database model solutions, which can serve as a base for selecting the proper database model that can satisfy their application requirements.

today's sensors are like eyes in the sky, thanks to the growth of satellite remote sensing technologies. Therefore, we see a steady evolution of the usage of different types of sensor, from airborne and satellites platforms which are generating large quantities of remote sensing image for divers applications such as;smart city, disaster management, military intelligence and others. As a result, the rate of growth in the amount of data by satellite is increasing dramatically. The velocity has exceeded 1TB per day and it will certainly increase in the future. However, it becomes crucial for these huge volume data to be stored. So, how to store and manage it efficiently becomes a real challenge because traditional ways have intensive issues;they are expensive and difficult to extend. Therefore, we need some scalable and parallel models for remote sensing data storage and processing. In this paper, we describe a scalable and distributed architecture for massive remote sensing data storage based on three No SQL databases (Apache Cassandra, Apache HBase, MongoBD). Also, a Hadoop-based framework is proposed to manage the big remote sensing data in a distributed and parallel manner.

The processing of streaming data has led to major advancements in the fields of finance, security analysis and social media analysis. For processing, organizations must first store this data. Of the few data storage options that satisfy the characteristics to reserve streams of data, nosql databases provide a better alternative because of their ability to stored schema-less data which was not possible in RDBMS. Among these, two databases in Elasticsearch and Cassandra have been chosen to demonstrate their performance when tested against a streaming application. The performance comparison is carried out on the basis of Data Manipulation Language operations on both nosql datastores. Based on the experiment conducted, it is concluded that higher scalability operations were performed faster by Cassandra while Elasticsearch took smaller execution time for applications that required aggregations and modifications of data. The analysis done thus helps organizations chose the appropriate nosql database for their own requirements.
