A generalized methodology to optimize the design of single stage amplifier is described. It is observed that a wide variety of constraints applied to the objective function graphically forms a polytope type feasible region. Simplex method and interior point based method are then used to find an optimal value by traversing through each of the corner point and interior, respectively, of the polytope formed. As a consequence, the amplifier design problem can be expressed as a special form of optimization problem called non linear programming (NLP), for which efficient global optimization methods have been developed. Henceforth, we can efficiently determine tradeoffs between competitive performance measures such as small signal gain (A(v)), unity gain frequency (UGF), slew rate (SR) and power. In this paper, the proposed method is first described showing in detail the formulation of the design problem as NLP for a specific amplifier circuit and then applied to a wide variety of amplifier architectures. The proposed method yields completely an automated synthesis of single stage amplifiers directly from the specifications.

In this paper, an attri-vari inspection policy for the resubmitted lots based on the process capability indexC(pk)is proposed. The proposed sampling plan comprises of both attribute and variables inspections for the resubmitted lots using single sampling plan. In the case of variables inspection, both symmetric and asymmetric fraction non conforming cases have been considered. Tables are developed and constructed for determining the optimal parameters of the proposed mixed plan based on two points on the operating characteristic curve approach by formulating the problem as a non linear programming. The industrial application of the proposed mixed sampling plan is explained with an illustrative real time example. Advantages of the proposed sampling plan are also discussed in terms of comparison with other existing sampling plans.

Demand Response is utilized around the globe to alleviate the peak demand economically and to manage reliability-compromising emergencies in power systems. Sri Lanka requires an effective Demand Response system to cater the peak demand more economically than dispatching expensive thermal power plants, while minimizing sub-optimal consumption patterns exhibited by consumers during peak demand periods. Therefore, this paper is focused on the development of analgorithm for an Automated Demand Response system for large facilities, which is customized to suit the requirements of the Sri Lankan power system. Under this system, both the utility organization and the consumers are expected to be mutually benefited. This algorithm consists of three levels: deciding on whether or not to execute an Automated Demand Response event for a particular time interval, determining the optimum facility-level demand reductions, and determining the optimum appliance- level demand reductions. Mixed integer nonlinearprogramming and a heuristic method are used to solve the optimization problems in this algorithm. Results of this algorithm are analysed using a miniature model of the Automated Demand Response system, consisting of fifteen power plants and five industrial and general-purpose facilities.

In this paper, a new mixed sampling plan based on the process capability index (PCI) C-pk is proposed and the resultant plan is called mixed variable lot-size chain sampling plan (ChSP). The proposed mixed plan comprises of both attribute and variables inspections. The variable lot-size sampling plan can be used for inspection of attribute quality characteristics and for the inspection of measurable quality characteristics, the variables ChSP based on PCI will be used. We have considered both symmetric and asymmetric fraction non conforming cases for the variables ChSP. Tables are developed for determining the optimal parameters of the proposed mixed plan based on two points on the operating characteristic (OC) approach. In order to construct the tables, the problem is formulated as a non linear programming where the average sample number function is considered as an objective function to be minimized and the lot acceptance probabilities at acceptable quality level and limiting quality level under the OC curve are considered as constraints. The practical implementation of the proposed mixed sampling plan is explained with an illustrative real time example. Advantages of the proposed sampling plan are also discussed in terms of comparison with other existing sampling plans.

Wireless body area network (WBAN) is designed to provide a variety of services for both medical and entertainment applications. This paper proposes a priority-based energy-efficient routing algorithm (PERA) for WBAN. In PERA, first priority is assigned for emergency data, second priority is used for on demand data traffic and third priority is utilized for periodic data delivery between sink and root nodes. We develop two non-linearprogramming based optimization models for WBAN. We use these computational models to analyze the effect of define constraints on network performance. We also use this problem formulation frame work to estimate the best possible performance of WBAN subjected to additionally design parameters such as the energy levels, topology, source rates, reception power, and number of nodes. We introduce these models for a fixed deployment strategy and examined that these optimization models show prickly changes in network throughput and network lifetime. MATLAB simulations of proposed routing protocol are performed for five different evaluation criterion in comparison with SIMPLE and M-ATTEMPT. The simulation results show that proposed routing algorithm achieves longer lifetime and more reliable than opponent routing protocols.

In this article, we propose a new mixed chain sampling plan based on the process capability index C-pk, where the quality characteristic of interest having double specification limits and follows the normal distribution with unknown mean and variance. In the proposed mixed plan, the chain sampling inspection plan is used for the inspection of attribute quality characteristics. The advantages of this proposed mixed sampling plan are also discussed. Tables are constructed to determine the optimal parameters for practical applications by formulating the problem as a non linear programming in which the objective function to be minimized is the average sample number and the constraints are related to lot acceptance probabilities at acceptable quality level and limiting quality level under the operating characteristic curve. The practical application of the proposed mixed sampling plan is explained with an illustrative example. Comparison of the proposed sampling plan is also made with other existing sampling plans.

The methods that we describe presently, attempt to approximate a constrained optimiza- tion problem with an unconstrained one and then apply standard search techniques such as exterior penalty function method and interior penalty method to obtain solutions. The approximation is accomplished in the case of exterior penalty methods by adding a term to the objective function that prescribes a high cost for violation of the constraints. In the case of interior penalty function methods, a term is added that favors points in the interior of the feasible region over those near the boundary. For a problem with n variables and m constraints, both approaches work directly in the n-dimensional space of the variables. The discussion that follows emphasizes exterior penalty methods recognizing that interior penalty function methods embody the same principles.

In this paper, a comparative study of different artificial Intelligence (AI) and hybrid AI approaches is presented. Total time of operation of directional over current relays (DOCRs) can be reduced, and also maintained the coordination constraints, and that will be done by selecting the optimum values of time multiplier setting (TMS) and plug setting (PS) of DOCRs. Towards this goal, different optimization approaches such as Genetic Algorithm (GA), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Accelerated Particle Swarm Optimization (APSO) and APSO-linearprogramming (APSO-LP) are applied to solve coordination problem for DOCRs on 15 bus-test case. The obtained results present that hybrid APSO-LP method gives the most effective solution for this complex problem.
