In [5, 7, 8] an analytical model of the lifetime problem of wireless sensor networks is developed. The solution given by the model is not practical for WSNs. Each time, there is a change in a sensor network, the solution needs to be recalculated. Also, it is difficult to build ILP solvers inside the small sensors. Furthermore, when the number of sensor nodes and CHs increases, it quickly becomes infeasible to calculate an optimum solution. As the analytical model is not able to be used to solve complicated networks, heuristic solutions are then examined that can compute the solutions for large sensor networks. Finally, the simulation results of the heuristic solutions are presented and discussed.

The objective of this paper is to address an industrially implemented economic dispatch (ED) function for cogeneration units, i.e. generating units with output in the form of both electric power and heat. The heat produced by the cogeneration power plants is used for desalination of sea water and the variation in demand for electricity and heat are therefore not correlated. This implies that an optimal loading of each generator can only be achieved if both of these two requirements are considered by the optimization model. The ED module solves the optimal dispatch problem considering both the electric load as well as the heat requirements provides the generation control thereby providing the operator important real-time decision support. Three different types of cogeneration plants are considered. The first plant configuration type consists of a gas turbine and a heat recovery steam generator that extracts heat from the gas turbine exhaust to produce steam. The second configuration type consists of a conventional combustion boiler and a steam turbine. The third considered plant configuration is what is also called combined cycle plants, i.e. a gas turbine with a heat recovery steam generator that produce steam for the operation of a steam turbine.

This work proposes the use of a fleet of drones (quadcopter/optocopter) inside a production plant of plastic products for the home, in the transport of the materials and components necessary for the personalization of products in the last phases of the production process in a Mass Customization System. A computational tool is designed to configure the fleet to perform certain logistic operations under different operating conditions. It is considered the demand for products (volume and weight), the power and speed of the drones and finally, the distance travelled based on the layout of the plant and transport layout of the drones. The fleet of drones considers a 3D transport space and several structures and configurations have been developed to allow 3D movements. It also analyses the problem of routing of the fleet of drones using several heuristic methods and simulation, whose objective function is to minimize the total cost. An extension of the problem of the traveller seller with capacity and restrictions is analysed (CVRP). Finally, a technological uprising required by the drone transport system is carried out.

Objective The purpose of this study is to examine how cannabis legalization and corresponding taxation would affect the supply-side of the cannabis market. Specifically, the study considers various scenarios in which Oklahoma legalizes recreational cannabis for adult use and simulates changes in state-level market sales for other legal states and the average grower profits in Oklahoma. We assume that legalizing recreational cannabis in medical-only states would significantly increase the demand quantity in the legalized states and the local government would levy a significant level of tax on recreational cannabis. These assumptions are based on the post-legalization phenomena in other legalized US states. Method We simulate outcomes in the cannabis industry under the assumption of representative consumers with constant elasticity of substitution demand behavior and profit-maximizing firms with a Cobb-Douglas profit function. All agents are assumed to take exogenous prices as given. We calibrate the model using state-level sales data from 2020 and explore potential policies in Oklahoma and at the federal level. Results We find that, under the scenarios we consider, legalization of recreational cannabis in Oklahoma would lead to a decrease in the quantity of cannabis sold in Oklahoma's medical cannabis market as well as decreases in the quantity of cannabis sold in other states on average. Furthermore, we find that as the excise tax rate on recreational cannabis in Oklahoma is increased, the demand quantity in recreational cannabis market would decrease while the other markets' demand quantity would increase on average. As the elasticity of substitution between state-level products increases, the overall demand quantity would increase and the market quantity across states become more sensitive to Oklahoma's tax policies. However, the COG may be an abstract concept, or directly assaulting the COG is not feasible. Therefore, the critical vulnerabilities (CV) which influencing the COG must be determined. To do so, this paper proposes a COG network model based on the improved ANP. The importance of this work is that it augments the ANP to support rapid decision-making and overcome the subjectivity of human, and it uses the coordination theory to identify the dependencies of targets. As today's distribution grid is experiencing increased rooftop solar installations, there is growing interest in evaluating the PV hosting capacity (HC) of the grid. Since, predicting the exact size and location of potential PV installations is not feasible at the distribution grid planning phase, a stochastic method is employed to choose a finite number of combinations of possible PV size and location. As a result, the calculated PV HC is a range of total PV capacity in MW that a circuit can accommodate and not a single value. Additionally, the calculated PV HC range is not unique;it varies with the PV distribution considered for the analysis. This paper proposes an optimal power flow based formulation to find the maximum PV capacity in MW that can be accommodated in a given distribution grid. The PV HC values are evaluated for IEEE 123 bus circuit by the proposed method and the results are compared with the conventional approach. It is observed that the results of the optimal power flow method is unique and can act as the upper bound for the stochastic PV HC analysis.

We propose a novel method for the fast synthesis of low complexity model-based optical proximity correction (OPC) and phase shift masks (PSM) to improve the resolution and pattern fidelity of optical microlithography. We use the pixel-based mask representation, a continuous function formulation, and gradient based iterative optimization techniques to solve the above inverse problem. The continuous function formulation allows analytic calculation of the gradient. Pixel-based parametrization provides tremendous liberty in terms of the features possible in the synthesized masks, but also suffers the inherent disadvantage that the masks are very complex and difficult to manufacture. We therefore introduce the regularization framework;a useful tool which provides the flexibility to promote certain desirable properties in the solution. We employ the above framework to ensure that the estimated masks have only two or three (allowable) transmission values and are also comparatively simple and easy to manufacture. The results demonstrate that we are able to bring the CD on target using OPC masks. Furthermore, we were also able to boost the contrast of the aerial image using attenuated, strong, and 100% transmission phase shift masks. Our algorithm automatically (and optimally) adds assist-bars, do-ears, serifs, anti-serifs, and other custom structures best suited for printing the desired pattern.
