The interval estimation of the ratio of two binomial proportions based on the score statistic is superior over other methods. Iterative algorithms for calculating the approximate confidence interval have been provided by, e.g., KOOPMAN (1984, Biometrics 40:513-517) and GART and NAM (1988a, Biometrics 44:323-338). This note presents the analytical solutions for upper and lower confidence limits in a closed form and gives examples for numerical illustration. The non-iterative method is generally more desirable than the iterative method.

An Improved noniterative Parameter-Free Fault Location method on Untransposed Transmission Lines Using Multi-Section Models

This paper proposes an improved noniterative fault location method on untransposed transmission lines without utilizing line parameters. Two-end three phase voltage and current phasor measurements before and during the fault are typically required. First, the parameter-free fault location problem is formulated through multi-section transmission line models, and the necessary condition of noniterative solutions is carefully investigated to determine the maximum possible section number of the multi-section line model. Afterwards, with the determined section number, the analytical solution of the fault location is derived with full utilization of the inherent characteristics of the line parameter matrices. Instead of solving all the parameters, two key variables inside the parameter matrices are extracted and the fault location is obtained by analytically solving a polynomial equation. The method provides a closed-form analytical solution, and therefore avoids convergence issues of iterative algorithms. In addition, line asymmetry of untransposed transmission lines are fully considered to minimize fault location errors. Extensive numerical experiments show that the proposed method has improved fault location accuracy compared to the existing method, with different fault types, locations and impedances.

A noniterative Parameter-Extraction method for Single-Diode Lumped Parameter Model of Solar Cells

As a key to simulate electrostatic characteristics of solar cells and implement single-diode model into simulators, a noniterative parameter-extraction method is proposed to determine five parameters of single-diode model. It is straightforwardly derived from the transcend equation set of terminal I-V equations to overcome the imperfections of poor efficiency in numerical iteration methods, low accuracy in semiempirical approaches, and absence of physical meaning in optimization algorithms. As a result, such a parameter-extraction method actually serves as a useful tool to acquire model parameters, analyze preparing process' results, and expand practicability of lumped parameter model.

Fast and accurate fault location methods can save costs and ensure power supply reliability. This paper proposes a novel noniterative single-ended phasor domain fault location method with distributed parameter model for AC transmission lines. Due to the limitation of information, the legacy impedance-based single-ended fault location methods usually are based on assumptions on the line or system to obtain more information. The method proposed in this paper takes advantage of the additional information brought by the operation mode of circuit breakers. The proposed method only needs the local measurements and does not need the measurements and the equivalent source parameters of the remote system. The proposed method only uses single-ended data and is not affected by communication and synchronization. The proposed method is noniterative and there is no risk of nonconvergence. In addition, the method proposed in this paper does not rely on the assumptions of legacy methods and considers the distributed parameters, avoiding the disadvantages of the legacy methods. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified through a lot of case studies in PSCAD/EMTDC, with different fault types, fault locations and resistances. & COPY;2017 Elsevier Inc. Determination of the Half-Beam cone angle for Pierce electron gun design using an artificial neural network

Various electron gun design methods, especially iterative and noniterative, are generally utilized for preliminary electron gun design based on the input design beam parameters. In the electron gun design methods, calculating the half-beam cone angle is crucial, as it significantly influences the determination of the electron gun's geometry. In this paper, an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model was proposed for predicting the half-beam cone angle. The ANN model was trained and tested using experimental data obtained from previously documented studies on electron guns. The predicted results of the proposed ANN model were compared with three well-known methods in the electron gun design: iterative method, noniterative method, and modified noniterative method. The comparison indicates that the proposed ANN model achieves better performance than the other methods, with a Main Relative Error (MRE) of less than 5%. © 2025 The Authors

Holomorphic embedding load flow for unbalanced radial distribution networks with DFIG and tap-changer modelling

In this study, the holomorphic-embedding method as a linear and non-iterative method is developed and implemented to solve the load flow of the three-phase unbalanced radial distribution networks. Previously, this method was used to solve the load flow problem of balanced transmission networks. The proposed methodology could be applied for a variety of unbalanced radial distribution networks with any number of buses and branches. The characteristics of unbalanced radial distribution networks including line coupling effects, unbalanced loads and unsymmetrical phases are considered in this study. The proposed method uses an unbalanced network structure and modifies the calculation approach of the admittance matrix. In this manner, an unbalanced network is modelled the same as the balanced networks. The tap-changer, doubly-fed induction generator (DFIG), and photovoltaic system are modelled in the admittance matrix or current injection vector. The performance of the proposed method is validated on the 19-bus unbalanced radial distribution network. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed method in solving the load flow problem is investigated.

Evaluation of the complex material constants of piezoelectric ceramics in the thickness vibration mode

A new noniterative method, for determining the dielectric, piezoelectric and elastic constants, in complex form, for piezoceramic materials, in the thickness extensional mode, was proposed. This method is very flexible, as it is based on the standard approach to determine the elastic stiffness, followed by the measurement of the impedance at two frequencies to calculate the dielectric and piezoelectric constants, by solving a system of two equations. The new method was tested on materials with various thickness coupling factors (k(t) = 4.5-60%) and mechanical quality factors (Q(m) = 20-1600), proving very good accuracy for all of them. The accuracy of standard method was also evaluated for the same materials. (C) 2014 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

A generalized Ross method for two- and three-dimensional variably saturated flow

A numerical method has been proposed by Ross [Ross PJ. Modeling soil water and solute transport-fast, simplified numerical solutions. Agron J 2003;95(6): 1352-1361.] to solve one-dimensional soil water movement problems. The Ross method is a noniterative numerical scheme, that can reduce computational time without sacrificing computational accuracy. The main aim of this study is to present a general form of the Ross method for two- and three-dimensional variably saturated flow. The established numerical model (R3D) is widely tested using five problems, in which the numerical solutions of R3D are compared with analytical solutions, laboratory data, and solutions from a traditional iterative numerical model. The comparison shows that R3D accommodates various hydraulic functions and boundary conditions. Results from R3D, which does not require iteration, are as accurate as results from iterative model. With the help of the primary variable switching technique, this model is unconditionally mass conservative, and computes infiltration into dry soil more efficiently. R3D is thus considered as an efficient tool for its high accuracy and efficiency for solving two- and three-dimensional variably saturated flow problems. (c) 2013 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Comparison of noniterative Algorithms Based on Different Forms of Richards' Equation

Through linearizing an implicit differencing scheme, several noniterative numerical solutions of Richards' equation in different forms are derived here. Paniconi et al. (Water Resources Research, 27(6), 1147-1163, 1991) have developed a first-order accurate linearization of the head-based Richards' equation (RE) and a second-order accurate linearization of the implicit-factored head-based RE. Considering other forms of RE, we propose a second-order accurate linearization of the moisture-based RE and a second-order accurate linearization of the mixed form RE combined with the primary variable switching technique. Extensive comparisons between the noniterative solutions are conducted through three numerical experiments. Their accuracies, efficiencies, and mass balance behaviors are analyzed. The results indicate that the first-order accurate scheme is not efficient compared to iterative models. The noniterative schemes of head-based RE suffer from the mass imbalance problem without iteration. The linearized moisture-based RE can obtain mass conservative, accurate results effectively, while it may confront numerical problems when the soil approaches saturation. Among these noniterative schemes, the linearized mixed form RE combined with the primary variable switching technique is superior in terms of accuracy, mass balance, and efficiency compared to traditional iterative methods.
