In order to solve the problem of modeling, deduction and measurement of operational concepts, a method of modeling and measurement of operational concepts based on Joint Mission Thread (JMT) and Activity-Based Method (ABM) is proposed. Combining the actual situation of our country and its own characteristics, according to the characteristics of ABM and JMT, the operational concepts are modeled. Through model deduction based on OPM (object-Process Methodology), the function and logic of the operational concepts are tested. Combining with JMT, the operational concepts are decomposed into indicators to realize the measurability of the operational concepts. This method can provide reference for the normative description, modeling, testing and index decomposition of operational concepts.

In Component-Based Software Engineering, the problem of selecting software components involve several risk factors. Traditionally, these have been identified and mitigated using software project management techniques. However, the new demand for intelligent components has added complexity to the process. Despite the success and technological advances, its development in an environment ready for production faces many challenges. There are numbers of technical issues that limit their adoption and selection, due to the introduction of new risk factors, different from traditional ones. Thus, our goal is to formulate a technique to minimize the risk in the intelligent component selection process. To achieve this goal, first, we review the literature to Figure out how software project management takes care of the risk and to identify and classify the risks factor associated with intelligent software components. Second, we formulate the component selection problem as a search based optimization problem. And Third, we illustrate our proposal by presenting an example in the context of an air pollution forecasting component. As a result, we were able to: (1) identify a lack of useful tools to manage the risk factor effectively in a software project; (2) we classify intelligent component associated risk; and (3) we introduce a risk management technique that supports the component selection process by maximizing requirement accomplishment, that is, minimizing the risk of the provision of the functionalities that satisfy the requirements. Overall, our work is an initial step in using search-based optimization in risk management to the component selection process.

To develop the English learning and communication App platform, the component-based development methods are discussed, which is based on both practical methods and some theories as stated by some researchers across the platform. The Domain engineering or Product line engineering are studied with respect to the App letsvie. Then small components of the task are applied, which can be interfaces, algorithms or even metrics which are fully tested and developed independently. The main purpose is relying more on reusability, which is the use of existing assets, an asset can easily be defined as an object adding value to something. This time we are talking of adding value to a software system. Lastly, the components are built and assembled to create the App system.

These days, the conventional ways of teaching programming are not attractive to students. For instance, classical lecture and tutorial classes are not sufficient and provides only one-way learning environment. Most of the students nowadays prefer to have more engaging, fun, competitive, collaborative, and instant feedback learning environment. These elements can be achieved using gamification to increase students' interest in computer programming courses. More specifically, we used three gamification techniques in one advanced programming course: pair-programming teaching technique to maintain collaboration between students, Kahoot! system to provide an interactive quizzes system and instance feedback, and finally we used Robocode platform to teach object-oriented programming concepts in a fun and competitive fashion. We believe that gamifying teaching and learning process has great potential to assist teachers and engage students in a new and challenging way. This paper presents an empirical study that was carried out in one advanced computer-programming course were the mentioned gamification techniques were applied. A subjective system evaluation revealed that the students appreciated the used techniques. The results also revealed that the students' interest in computer programming were enhanced as well.

Many specification and programming languages have adopted term rewriting and pattern matching as a key feature. However, implementation techniques and observed performance greatly vary across languages and tools. To provide for an objective comparison, we developed an open, experimental platform based upon the ideas of the three Rewrite Engines Competitions (2006, 2008, and 2010), which we significantly enhanced, extended, and automated. We used this platform to benchmark interpreters and compilers for a number of algebraic, functional, and object-oriented languages, and we report about the results obtained for CafeOBJ, Clean, Haskell, LNT, LOTOS, Maude, mCRL2, OCaml, Opal, Rascal, Scala, SML (MLton and SML-NJ), Stratego/XT, and Tom.

Over the past two decades, the emergence of highly effective software testing frameworks has greatly simplified the development and use of unit tests and has led to new software development paradigms such as test driven development (TDD). However, scientific computing introduces a number of unique testing challenges, including numerical algorithms, distributed parallelism, and exascale environments. This presentation will begin with a brief introduction to unit testing, testing frameworks, and some simple examples using pFUnit, a unit testing framework for Fortran + MPI. I will then take a closer look at several of the obstacles one faces when testing technical software and suggest methodologies that can mitigate these difficulties.

The reading and understanding of source code is a necessary prerequisite for prospective programmers to write their own code. Thus, a reasonable task is to determine certain concepts like class identifiers in a given source code. In order to automatically evaluate the responses, they must be quantified. Hence, it is vital to have reliable and valid methods of measurement. In this paper we apply different means of measurement on constructed examples and compare them. Cohen's kappa seems to be an adequate measure.

In this thesis, we present an imperative object-oriented language featuring a dependent type system designed to support class-based programming and inheritance. The system brings classes and dependent types into play so as to enable types (classes) to be refined by value parameters (indices) drawn from some constraint domain. This combination allows statically checking interesting properties of imperative programs that are impossible to check in conventional static type systems for objects. From a pragmatic point of view, this work opens the possibility to combine the scal- ability and modularity of object orientation with the safety provided by dependent types in the form of index refinements. These may be used to provide additional guarantees about the fields of objects, and to prevent, for example, a method call that could leave an object in a state that would violate the class invariant. One key feature is that the pro- grammer is not required to prove equations between indices issued by types, but instead the typechecker depends on external constraint solving. From a theoretic perspective, our fundamental contribution is to formulate a system that unifies the three very different fea- tures: dependent types, mutable objects and class-based inheritance with subtyping. Our approach includes universal and existential types, as well as union types. Subtyping is induced by inheritance and quantifier instantiation. Moreover, dependent types require the system to track type varying objects, a feature missing from standard type systems in which the type is constant throughout the object's lifetime. To ensure that an object is used correctly, aliasing is handled via a linear type discipline that enforces unique refer- ences to type varying objects. The system is decidable, provided indices are drawn from some decidable theory, and proved sound via subject reduction and progress. In this thesis, the aim was to create an automation platform for bridge design using knowledge-based engineering (KBE) concepts. More specifically, the focus was put on the ultimate limit state design of reinforced concrete bridge columns. Compared to other engineering industries like manufacturing, the construction in- dustry only has a limited degree of automation, even though technically feasible automation already exist. This thesis proposes an automation framework, which has been developed using the object-oriented programming (OOP) paradigm in python. The platform employs a general piece of geometric logic on which a section analysis module is based that can analyse the normal force and two bending moments around mutually orthogonal axes in a reinforced concrete section of a column. The geometric logic is constructed out of six OOP classes, that are able to define a reinforced concrete section, and out of a set of three more OOP classes, that define the material parameters. The section analysis tool is based on the computation of limit surfaces for reinforced concrete sections. From these limit surfaces, interaction diagrams have been derived by taking plane sections of the limit surface. The verification of the automation application has been done by comparing in- teraction diagrams from the literature with interaction diagrams produced by the automation application. The comparison showed that both results coincided, taking into account some simplifications. Additionally, the automation framework is thought to be suitable for fulfilling a data management role in the design process, which is worthwhile to further investigate upon. The automation application can be further improved by augmenting the existing analysis modules with modules for other reinforced concrete elements or other construction materials.

Application of Robot programming to the Teaching of object-oriented Computer Languages

object-oriented programming (OOP) abstract concepts are often difficult to understand for students, since it is not easy to find the equivalence of such concepts in daily life. In this paper we will study if an interdisciplinary approach based on an introduction to robotics and robot programming helps the student in acquiring the OOP concepts. For our experiments, we selected a sample of thirty individuals among students with an adequate knowledge of procedural programming. This sample was divided into two groups of fifteen students each: for the first one we used a standard introductory approach to C#, whereas for the second one we developed an experimental course that included a demonstration program that illustrated OOP basic concepts using the features of a specific type of commercial ball-shaped robot with sensing, wireless communication and output capabilities. After the courses, both groups were evaluated by completing a multiple-choice exam and a C# programming exercise. Our results show that the student group that attended the course including the robot demo showed a higher interest level (i.e. they felt more motivated) than those students that attended the standard introductory C# course. Furthermore, the students from the experimental group also achieved an overall better mark.
