This paper presents a method to perform the real-time creation of models that are used to represent aspects of tracked objects in video frames. object modeling is done during the task of tracking previously unseen selected objects, and both tracking and model creation are implemented using the WiSARD weightless neural network and occur in real time, starting from no prior knowledge. The main purpose of this work is to track an object through camera images and, simultaneously, create a model that describes the presented appearances along with the transitions between each learned aspect. To achieve this goal, an object tracker based on the ClusWiSARD weightless neural network model was used to determine the states that describe the observed objects. In this way, it is possible to obtain a system that capture knowledge about the visual structures of the learned objects, creating relationships between the possible appearances, and being able to transit over the model aspects in an appropriate way. Furthermore, the created models have visual representations that can be used to show the learned aspects and validate the state transitions, in addition to being able to visualize occluded parts of objects.

We study the problem of creating a complete model of a physical object. Although this may be possible using intensity images, we here use images which directly provide access to three dimensional information. The first problem that we need to solve is to find the transformation between the different views. Previous approaches either assume this transformation to be known (which is extremely difficult for a complete model), or compute it with feature matching (which is not accurate enough for integration). In this paper, we propose a new approach which works on range data directly, and registers successive views with enough overlapping area to get an accurate transformation between views. This is performed by minimizing a functional which does not require point-to-point matches. We give the details of the registration method and modelling procedure, and illustrate them on real range images of complex objects.

This paper describes a multimodal travel system (MTS) designed to address the needs of a variety of demand-responsive transport. An origin-destination (O-D) trip in transportation network can be accomplished by using multiple modes. In urban network passengers may boarding buses or metros to go from one place to another, and modes as autobus or trains are used by passengers to travel between cities. The work focuses on the network object modeling and multimodal shortest path algorithm. A solution to the problem of long-run planning of transit on multimodal network has been implemented and tested. The work presents the general results found, and the proposed algorithm recognizes the;et of constraints related to the time schedule and the sequence of used modes in a O-D trip. The aim is to provide a tool for detecting the facilities of using different travel modes through a transportation network. Routings may include: distinct combination of rail, and route. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) were invaluable in the cost-effective construction and maintenance of this work and the subsequent validation of mode sequences and paths selections. Attention is devoted to the multimodal path operator as well as to the use of GIS-transit planning. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

In 3D imaging and modeling, several applications require the definition of conceptual models, which imply the knowledge of the 3D topology. Working in 3D, as well known, is much more complex than in 2D. The combined study of topologic and geometric relations between primary elements and symmetries in the spaces in which the complex objects are located, allows noticing some analogies between the number of the found relations and the number of groups of symmetries.

A knowledge-based object modeling advisor for developing quality object models

object models or class diagrams are widely used for capturing information system requirements in terms of classes with attributes and operations, and relationships among those classes. Although numerous guidelines are available for object modeling as part of requirements modeling, developing quality object models has always been considered a challenging task, especially for novice systems analysts in business environments. This paper presents an approach that can be used to support the development of quality object models. The approach is implemented as a knowledge-based system extension to an open source CASE tool to offer recommendations for improving the quality of object models. The knowledge component of this system incorporates an ontology of quality problems that is based on a conceptual model quality framework commonly found in object models, the findings of related empirical studies, and a set of analysis patterns. The results obtained from an empirical evaluation of the prototype demonstrate the utility of this system, especially with respect to recommendations related to the model completeness aspect of semantic quality. On the relationship between object modeling and the subjective response

This paper summarizes exploratory research that is a first objectively linking the three-dimensional light-field associated with object modeling to occupants' subjective impressions of a space. Computer models were created for six light settings studied by John Flynn for which he determined specific subjective impressions. The directional nature of the light-field was quantified for each light setting using a three-dimensional array of vector to scalar (V:S) illuminance ratios, which have been promoted by Christopher Cuttle as a method for characterizing three-dimensional modeling. The comparative analysis suggests that: 1) spaces with variation in the V: S ratio are preferred to spaces that have homogeneous ratios, 2) the combination of a lower V:S ratio (less than 1.2) coupled with low variance in the V:S ratio favors spaces that appear spacious, and 3) impressions of clarity may be related to a combination of the V:S ratio and illuminance.

USING EXTREMAL BOUNDARIES FOR 3-D object modeling

This paper is devoted to the study of the extremal boundaries of 3-D curved objects. The extremal boundaries are the images of special curves drawn on the object and are called rims. They are viewpoint dependent and characterized by the fact that the optical rays of their points are tangential to the surface of the object. We first study the mathematics of the relationship between the extremal boundaries and the surface of the object. This study allows us to design an algorithm for detecting those boundaries in the images that are likely to be extremal (for this, we need at least three images). Once this has been done, we show that we can reconstruct the rims and compute the differential properties of the surface of the object along them up to the second order. If a qualitative description is sufficient, we show that the sign of the Gaussian curvature of the surface along the rim can be computed in a much simpler way. Experimental results are presented on synthetic and real images. This paper provides a better understanding of the relationship between the apparent and real shape of a 3-D object as well as algorithms for reconstructing the local shape of such an object along the rims. It opens potential applications to the modeling of 3-D objects.

Implementation and experimental study on fast object modeling based on multiple structured stripes

In this paper, a practical structured light-based system for fast object modeling and reconstruction is reported. The system consists of an off-the-shelf digital projector, a video camera and a turntable. The system calibration is implemented accurately and automatically by taking a single image of an illuminated calibration template. The multiple color light stripes emitted by the projector adopt only three colors and the color can be modified easily according to the surface texture of the object. This makes the system widely applicable in many situations, and the assumption about color neutrality, which is a limitation to other similar systems, can be largely relaxed. The registration and merging algorithm is greatly simplified by employing a turntable. The validity and high accuracy of the method are demonstrated by extensive real experiments. , (C) 2004 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

ADOME, which stands for ADvanced object modeling Environment is an approach to integrating data and knowledge management based on object-oriented technology. Next generation information systems will require more flexible data modeling capabilities than those provided by current object-oriented DBMSs. In particular, integration of data and knowledge management capabilities will become increasingly important. In this context, ADOME provides versatile role facilities that serve as "dynamic binders" between data objects and production rules, thereby facilitating flexible data and knowledge management integration. A prototype that implements this mechanism and the associated operators has been constructed on top of a commercial object-oriented DBMS and a rule-base system.

Robust 3D object modeling with a low-cost RGBD-sensor and AR-markers for applications with untrained end-users

An approach for generating textured 3D models of objects without the need for complex infrastructure such as turn-tables or high-end sensors on precisely controlled rails is presented. The method is inexpensive as it uses only a low-cost RGBD sensor, e.g., Microsoft Kinect or ASUS Xtion, and Augmented Reality (AR) markers printed on paper sheets. The sensor can be moved by hand by an untrained person and the AR-markers can be arbitrarily placed in the scene, thus allowing the modeling of objects of a large range of sizes. Due to the use of the simple AR markers, the method is significantly more robust than just using the RGBD sensor or a monocular camera alone and it hence avoids the typical need for manual post-processing of alternative approaches like Kinect-Fusion, 123D Catch, Photosynth, or similar. This article has two main contributions: First, the development of a simple, inexpensive method for the quick and easy digitization of physical objects is presented. Second, the development of an uncertainty model for AR-marker pose estimation is introduced. The latter is of interest beyond the object modeling application presented here. The uncertainty model is used in a graph-based relaxation method to improve model-consistency. Realistic modeling of various objects, such as parcels, sport balls, coffee sacks, human dolls, etc., is experimentally demonstrated. Good model-accuracy is shown for several ground-truth objects with simple geometries and known dimensions. Furthermore, it is shown that the models obtained using the uncertainty model have fewer errors than the ones obtained without it. (C) 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
