Bulk Handling Systems (BHS) is developing and installing automated solid waste handling plants around the world. BHS brought in Concept Systems Inc., to provide the control system development for the recycling lines. The challenge was to standardize the controls and reporting systems, while supporting the requirements of custom system installations. Systems engineer Jason Connor was experienced in software development in object- oriented environments, and developed modular software programs for controlling the company's equipment. The software was designed with user-defined tag-names, or UDTs, and standard equipment routines. The software also was designed in a hierarchal manner, starting at the smallest elements such as motors and push-button stations, and those elements grouped into larger elements such as zones. Using these modular software elements, Connor was able to design all the HMIs and ladder logic code for the PLCs in each BHS installation to look similar.

There are powerful computers and new operating systems at secondary schools but we observe that many teachers teach programming in old programming environments such as Borland Pascal for DOS. Imagine Logo or Delphi are relatively new programming environments in comparison to DOS based environments. They bring nice programming paradigms as object-oriented programming, event-driven programming and the idea of constructing application by direct manipulation with components. We believe that more advanced students Would like to learn and use these new features. Therefore we run educational research and tried to answer questions like "is it possible to teach basics of programming in object-oriented programming", "are students of secondary school prepared and willing to learn object-oriented programming" or "can object-oriented programming be useful for them...?.

Construction of marketing management information system of travel agency based on customer relationship management

The theory of customer relationship management has been gradually penetrated into all levels of enterprise management. As a close business with customers, travel agency should focus on customer relationship management, which is very important. This paper attempts to combine the concept of customer relationship management and the processes of traditional travel agency marketing to construct the system architecture, considering the actual situation and specific requirements of a travel agency, combining with norms and standards of the management of travel agencies industry, as well as, using the current popular system architecture B/S (Browser/Sever) Mode. By extensively studying the theory of software engineering, database theory and object-oriented languages and Web programming, management information systems analysis and design process of travel agency marketing is discussed in detail based CRM.

Building critical systems as a cyborg

In science fiction, a cyborg is a marriage of machine and human flesh. I'm not suggesting that you turn your favorite officer into an espresso machine, but this article explains the seemingly outrageous possibility that cybernetics may be the next step in the evolution of critical systems, demonstrates actual code and technology that is available, and describes real-world experiences in using it. The strength of this technology is in its resilience and adaptability in building complex critical systems that must face the real world. However, its use requires a shift in thinking about software-much like the introduction of "object-oriented" concepts once did.

Platform-based development is currently the dominant development method of enterprise application, but the features provided by current mainstream enterprise application development platforms focus on technical aspects rather than business, so it lead to a high degree of difficulty and heavy workload during the building of specific enterprise applications. Other platforms might offer some better business-oriented features, but at the same time they have strong industry limitations. This paper presents a novel general-purpose enterprise application business infrastructure software platform, in which the technology complexity is encapsulated in the bottom, so the technical ability requirement of the user that uses platform to build specific enterprise application is largely reduced. Whether user can successfully build an enterprise application through platform is mainly depended on their cognitive level of the enterprise business. Enterprise applications built upon the platform can agilely respond to the changes of business. The efficiency and flexibility of the prototype platform built with the ideas and methods have gotten an initial validation from the simulation construction of a certain civil aviation airport prototype information system.

The effect of failure criterion on slope stability analysis

The stability of a slope is analyzed by using the pseudo-static approach. The influence of the introduction of principal effective normal intermediate stress (σ′2) in the formulation of sliding block stability by using Drucker-Prager criterion is explored. The results show that this approach indicates the greatest stability of the studied slope. To facilitate the task, a visual program of calculation has been created, which is interactive with a database software and utilizes the concept of object-oriented programming. © 2010 ejge.

This paper describes the modeling system - Simio™- that is designed to simplify model building by promoting a modeling paradigm shift from the process orientation to an object orientation. Simio is a simulation modeling framework based on intelligent objects. The intelligent objects are built by modelers and then may be reused in multiple modeling projects. Although the Simio framework is focused on object-based modeling, it also supports a seamless use of multiple modeling paradigms including event, process, object, and agent-based modeling.

This paper focuses on the problem about design methods of embedded systems in some complex power electronic devices. By using object oriented programming method, the embedded system of parallel inverter systems can be designed according with requirements, such as reliability. Clustering based approaches are generally difficult to use in practice since they need a significant human interaction for recovering software architectures, are conceived for a specific programming language, and very often do not use design knowledge (e.g., the implemented architectural model). In this paper we present a clustering based approach to recover the implemented architecture of software systems with a hierarchical structure and implemented with any object oriented programming language. The approach is based on the combination of structural and lexical dimensions. The structural dimension is used to decompose a software system into layers (i.e., horizontal decomposition), while the lexical dimension is then employed to partition each layer (i.e., vertical decomposition) into software modules. Layers are identified using a well known and widely employed link analysis algorithm, i.e., the Kleinberg algorithm, while Vector Space Model is used to vertically decompose the layers. To assess the approach and the underlying techniques, we also present a prototype of a supporting tool and the results from a case study conducted on subsequent versions of three open source Java software systems.
