In the last years many standards have been created for the industrial control domain. Some have found wide adoption in the industiy, while others seem to never leave the stage of a promising technology. An example of the first type is ISA 88, that defines an architectural design for control applications for the batch process industiy. The author is of the opinion that IEC 61499 is an example of the latter. In this paper the author analyzes how the design architecture defined in ISA 88 may be implemented using the programming framework defined in IEC 61499. Even though ISA 88 and IEC 61499 both follow an event based and object-oriented approach, the author uncovers a fundamental constraint of the IEC 61499 related to the dynamic invocation of services from distinct object instances. Without tiying to extend the IEC 61499 standard, two approaches are presented to work around this constraint.

Most of the current state of the art motion planning software libraries are not easily interchangeable, because core concepts are represented with different data structures, application programming interfaces (API) are not compatible, or algorithms are encapsulated in modules organized in mutually exclusive abstraction hierarchies. These problems limit the possibility to reuse different libraries in the same application interchangeably and to compare their quality attributes (performance, completeness, etc.). An approach to overcome these shortcomings is refactoring, a technique that aims to restructure a set of existing software libraries without affecting their external behavior in order to harmonize their architecture, data structures, and APIs. This paper presents a component-based refactoring approach that has allowed the transition from motion planning libraries, taking the object-oriented framework CoPP as basis, to a component-based system. In particular we describe a four-step application of well-known architecture refactoring patterns that redistributes the responsibilities among the classes, harmonizes the common data structures and reduces the coupling degree. The obtained system represents a composition of reusable components that are easy to customize and offer different algorithms to resolve the same problem. In this way the user could quickly compile a new motion planning application by simply choosing which algorithm to use for each functionality.

IEC 61499 standard has promised to help handling the high level of complexity of modern control systems, but it hasn't still been adopted by the industry. Several authors claim for design methodologies to guide control engineers using this standard. This paper shows a way to ease the development of IEC 61499 based applications identifying and characterizing "extended FBs", adding semantic artefacts to basic FBs. Specific design patterns are built from those extended FBs, which match elements of the problem domain. Two specific design patterns are presented which allow dealing with Failure Management, a common topic in control applications.

Aspect oriented programming (AOP) aims at addressing the problem of the crosscutting concerns (e. g. logging, validation, transaction etc.), those functionalities that are scattered among several modules in a given system. Aspects can be defined to modularize such concerns. In this work, we focus on the most popular MVC pattern in software architecture pattern, and introduce the aspect-oriented programming ideas into the MVC model with Unified Modeling Language (UML), also we propose a model of aspectoriented MVC pattern, which extracts crosscutting concerns of going through the system to form an aspect layer and uses the configuration file to statement the point of weaving. To assess the effects of the idea on MVC pattern, an actual system is carried out. In the end, we report the results of the pattern of the feasibility and superiority.

Concurrency is an integral part of many robotics applications, due to the need for handling inherently parallel tasks such as motion control and sensor monitoring. Writing programs for this complex domain can be hard, in particular because of the difficulties of retaining a robust modular design. We propose to use SCOOP, an object-oriented programming model for concurrency which by construction is free of data races, therefore excluding a major class of concurrent programming errors. Synchronization requirements are expressed by waiting on routine preconditions, which turns out to provide a natural framework for implementing coordination requirements in robotics applications. As demonstration application, we describe a control program for hexapod locomotion, whose implementation closely follows the corresponding behavioral specification given by the biological model. We compare the architecture with solutions expressed in more traditional approaches to robotic control applications.

The paper presents a mathematical model created for solving the problem of minimal volume design steel frame structures at shakedown. The shakedown and stability (for a part of the truss) constraints-conditions as well as the structure's stiffness requirements (i.e. the restriction of displacements and deflections) are evaluated. Extreme energy principles of the deformable body mechanics, as well as shakedown and mathematical programming theories of elastic-plastic structures are used in the work for creating the structure's volume optimization problem. Discretization is based on equilibrium finite elements with interpolation functions of internal forces. The elements are designed using HE, IPE, RHS steel profile assortments and considering dispersion of geometrical characteristics of profile assortment sets. Optimal design of steel structures is realized by using the tool system JWM SAOSYS Toolbox v0.47 created by the authors in MATLAB environment. A new analysis module EPSOptim-SD is also discussed. The possibilities of the system SAOSYS are demonstrated by a numerical example of industrial building frame design with standard strength, stability and stiffness constraints. The assumption of small displacements is adopted in optimization of nonlinear problems.

Java is object-oriented programming Languages (OOPL) that widely used for software development. But Java has a limitation for working with Domain-Specific Languages (DSLs). Java language structure and syntax has not more support for working with DSLs and including type of Java language. Static language likes Java does not flexible more for DSLs handle. This limitation has to solve by adding new language structure and syntax into Java language. Groovy is a dynamic programming languages that support DSLs with internal structure. In this paper, we introduce "JGroovy" which is extended Java programming language with Groovy programming. We are built JGroovy compilers that fully support Java programming language.

Interoperability of constituent systems is the primary challenge for a large-scale distributed Live-Virtual-Constructive (LVC) simulation activity. The grand challenge is to integrate, for the first time, all aspects of interoperability necessary not only to enable but to ensure interoperability throughout an large-scale LVC system. Previously, a handful of these aspects of interoperability have been partially addressed in isolation. Only an integrated solution of all aspects of interoperability into a computer-enforceable architecture will make possible attaining the goal of ensuring interoperability throughout a large-scale LVC activity. The enforceable nature of the LVC activity models implies that the models accurately reflect the "reality" of the LVC activity. Without enforcement, the complex nature of the myriads of components would tend to introduce inaccuracies into models, ultimately rendering those models useless. Actual enforcement of the models elevates the LVC software systems' usefulness to a level that would otherwise be unattainable in practice. Preparing for an LVC activity involves answering deceptively simple questions such as, "Will an individual piece of software work during this LVC activity?" At present, reliably answering such questions is impossible, because no detailed, precise, and accurate descriptions of the software or the LVC event exist. Other simple questions such as, "Which data collection systems are suitable for use in this LVC activity?" are equally difficult to answer reliably. This paper discusses the need for computer-enforceable models of individual software components as well as entire LVC activities, along with creating new extensions to the existing TENA object modeling language and to the TENA Middleware itself.

This paper presents the results of a set of performance tests designed to determine the relative efficiencies of five different Java application level protocols used for peer-to-peer communications. The protocols tested include;datagram (UDP), DataStreams, objectStreams, remote method invocation, and piped streams. Efficiency was determined by measuring transmission latency, number of packets sent, and bytes transmitted. The tests revealed a great variation in packetization efficiency and latency between the protocols. Piped streams were the most efficient for intra processor communication. Datagrams were the next most efficient for inter-processor communication. Of the TCP methods, DataStreams were the most efficient, followed by RMI, and objectStreams.

Memory diagrams serve as a visualization technique that enables students to better understand the abstract state of program memory. Unlike traditional program visualizations, memory diagrams illustrate where variables of different types and storage classes are allocated. Our experience is that memory diagrams enhance the ability of novice programmers to understand object-oriented programming. Unfortunately, however, constructing these diagrams by hand can prove tedious. We introduce a toolkit for constructing memory diagrams. The toolkit enables students to verify their understanding of the state of their programs' memory, and allows instructors to generate both correct and incorrect diagrams to test their students' understanding of course material. We evaluate the toolkit in terms of its ability to generate visualizations of various Java language constructs including enumerations, arrays, and reference aliasing.
