With the growing importance of external and shared data, the set of requirements for Business Intelligence and Analytics (BIA) is shifting. Current solutions still come with shortcomings, esp. in multi-stakeholder environments where sensitive content is exchanged. We argue that a new level in the evolution of BIA can be unlocked by tearing down the barriers between storage and computing based on upcoming storage technologies. In particular, we propose a revitalization of ideas from object-oriented databases. We present results from a joint project that aimed at delineating design options for BIA solutions built upon this idea. The paper outlines the interplay of various architectural layers from storage to business with an object-oriented platform at its core. By doing so, we mark the way for further research, outline a novel design of BIA solutions, and illustrate the consequences of low-level infrastructure innovations on the business layer.

Our research provides a unified and coherent presentation of the essential concepts and techniques of object-oriented file systems. It consolidates the results of research and development in the semantics and implementation of a full spectrum of information system facilities for object-oriented systems, including data modeling, querying, storage structures, composite objects and integration of a programming language. This approach presents a tool for building an object-oriented file system called object-oriented file system tool (or OOFS for short) for completing the development of a large object-oriented information system, and its associated applications development framework. First we present the technological objectives underlying the project. Then we present the process of developing the information system and detail its architecture and construction, concentrating on the areas in which object-oriented technology has had a significant role. With the deeper extent of marine geology survey and increasing various marine geological data, the marine geological data service system cannot meet the application requirements. Through analyzing the status of existing marine geological data applications, this paper presented a “Three-Layer” architecture of marine geological data service platform design approach, designed the unified logical model based on business using object-oriented thought, implemented marine geological data service platform using WCF and NHibernate technologies, realized the integrated access to heterogeneous and distributed marine geology database, and achieved data query based on business models. Compared with the traditional methods of data query, users can simply choose business needs, and they can get the data after setting constraints, which greatly facilitates the users’ application demands for marine geological data. © 2015, ICIC International.

The objective of this paper is to present the first results concerning the mapping and implementation of the Fuzzy Semantic Model (FSM) as a Fuzzy object-Relational database Model (FuzzORM). This solution permits to take advantages of both relational and object-oriented databases. The object-relational database management system PostgreSQL has been used for the implementation of the FuzzORM.

Automatic object-oriented coding facility for product life cycle management of discrete products

Discrete products are produced in enormous quantity and diversity all over the world. A global collaborative manufacturing environment requires the minimisation of environmental impact that these products shall ultimately pose. The implementation of an efficient product life cycle management system that encapsulates complete historical information about the product shall prove useful. This information may pertain to the design methodology, material type, details regarding manufacturing methods, use of coating or paints and exposure to radiation, chemicals of varying pH and electroweak forces during production or use. It is essential to have access to this information when the product is in use or in the disassembly stage at the end of the useful life of a product to accomplish the proper reuse or disposal of each component. A coding system that embodies the product life cycle stages for discrete products is envisaged. The proposed coding system stores parameters that are related to the design, manufacture, usage and disposal of a product. A computer programme is developed to establish a product life cycle code (PLCC) in the form of a 256-bit binary number or 64-bit hexadecimal number. The code can be allocated to a component or product at its inception in an interactive web session and stored in a repository for record keeping. The cradle-to-grave binary or hexadecimal code becomes an essential part of each component and product and facilitates the usage, disassembly and disposal of each component. A case study related to the generation of PLCC for discrete products is included towards the end of the article.

In this paper, based on possibility distribution and the semantic measure of fuzzy data, we investigate subclass-superclass relationships in the fuzzy object-oriented databases. We identify fuzzy class and develop soft computing methods in the paper to quantitatively determine the fuzzy subclass-superclass *** strategies to resolve the conflicts in multiple inheritance of class are also presented.

An object-oriented database is represented by a set of classes connected by their class inheritance hierarchy through superclass and subclass relationships. An object-oriented database is suitable for capturing more comprehensive and detailed complexity of real world data such as capturing multiple related tables representing data schemas of a retail store web site, or capturing multiple databases such as several retail store web sites. Modeling web and other data as a number of object database schemas would enable derived, historical, and comparative mining of multiple databases and tables. This paper proposes an object-oriented class model and database schema, and a series of class methods including that for object-oriented join (OOJoin) for mining multiple data sources through object oriented model. The OOJoin procedure joins superclass and subclass tables by matching their type and super type relationships. Mining Hierarchical Frequent Patterns (MineHFPs) from multiple integrated databases is done by applying an extended TidFP technique which specifies the object class hierarchy by traversing the multiple database inheritance hierarchy. This paper also extends map-gen join method used in TidFP algorithm to oomap-gen join for generating k-itemset object candidate patterns. The oomap-gen join reduces the number of candidate itemsets generated through indexing of the (k-1)-itemset candidate pattern with start and end position codes for the inheritance hierarchy level. Experimental results show that the proposed MineHFPs algorithm for mining hierarchical frequent patterns is effective and efficient for complex queries. © Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg 2014.
