Complex real-time control system is a software dense and algorithms dense system, which needs modern software engineering techniques to design. UML is an object-oriented industrial standard modeling language, used more and more in real-time domain. This paper first analyses the advantages and problems of using UML for real-time control systems design. Then, it proposes an extension of UML-RT to support time-continuous subsystems modeling. So we can unify modeling of complex real-time control systems on UML-RT platform, from requirement analysis, model design, simulation, until generation code.

Existing object-orientedmodeling environments only support the simulation of a limited type of hybrid dynamic models of variable structure: those with exactly the same state variables and the same algebraic variables in all modes. The most general hybrid dynamic model of variable structure is one in which the number of state variables and algebraic variables is not necessarily equal in all modes. A new algorithm, which transforms such a general variable-structure model into a model suitable for simulation by means of existing object-oriented modeling languages of hybrid systems, is proposed.

An object-oriented methodology for the design of reusable model libraries, dedicated to the composition of hybrid simulation models, is proposed. It takes into consideration all the phases of the library life cycle: design, programming, maintenance, modifications, extension, etc. The methodology distinguishes between the role of the library designers and the role of the library users. One of its main goals is guaranteeing that the users are able to use the libraries without having to know their internal details. In particular, users should not be confronted with numerical problems. The library designers should guarantee the numerical efficiency of the models based on the library predefined-models. In this respect, some of the numerical aspects of the model library design are discussed. The concept of library design rules is introduced as the cornerstone of the proposed methodology.

JARA is a set of libraries of dynamic hybrid models of some fundamental physical-chemical principles. Its main application field is the modelling of physical-chemical processes in the context of automatic control. Only a reduced set of phenomena has been selected for modeling, focusing mainly on illustrating relevant aspects of the proposed design methodology. Scheduling problem solving has escaped its initial attention on mathematical programming approaches and it is gaining benefits from other fields such as Discrete-Event simulation and Artificial Intelligence (AZ). The Al community has investigated the problem and most of its research focuses on the use of dispatching heuristic rules and constraint-satisfaction. This paper presents a different perspective. The similarities between the design and the multiproduct batch plant scheduling problems are analyzed, stressed and exploited;and a methodology based on a task-oriented approach is introduced. The scheduler is viewed as the ''designer'' of a production plan. Similar to the design problem, the ''final artifact'' is not known in advance and the complexity of the overall problem is tackled by means of decomposition. To accomplish it, the structure of the solution methodology is identified and explicitly conceptualized. The approach relies on the appropriate modeling of the scheduling scenario. An object-orientedmodeling language is presented.
