This paper studies the short-term electric power load forecasting. First, we use the product of polynomial functions and Fourier series as a function of load trends. After that the goal programming model of parameter estimation is established, and it is solved by the pattern search method. In this study, a dynamic allocation model using objective programming for berth allocation and quay crane assignments was preliminarily developed based on rolling-horizon approach. Afterwards, a hybrid parallel genetic algorithm (HPGA), which combined parallel genetic algorithm (PGA) and heuristic algorithm, was employed to resolve the proposed model. Furthermore, a simulation was conducted to evaluate the HPGA and to execute relevant gene repair techniques. Eventually, the numerical experiments on a specific container terminal were applied to illustrate the proposed models and algorithms. This paper aims at postulating a novel strategy in terms of yard crane scheduling. In this study, a dynamic scheduling model using objective programming for yard cranes is initially developed based on rolling-horizon approach. To resolve the NP-complete problem regarding the yard crane scheduling, a hybrid algorithm, which employs heuristic rules and parallel genetic algorithm (PGA), is then employed. Then a simulation model is developed for evaluating this approach. Finally, numerical experiments on a specific container terminal yard are used for system illustration. Computational results suggest that the proposed method is able to solve the problem efficiently. (C) 2009 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

In order to translate the Customer Needs (CN) for the specific product into the right Technical Requirements (TR), the structure of conventional House of Quality (HOQ) is modified to have HOQ fit in with the needs of multi-attribute decision-making. Then, an objective programming Model (OPM) based on HOQ is constructed, which fully considers the design team's experience, and the interdependence between CN and TR, and the inner-dependences within themselves, along with resource limitations, and multi-objective nature of the problem. The target values of TR are obtained by solving the OPM using MATLAB, which can fully meet the CN. Finally an example is given, and the OPM is proved to be reasonable and effective.

A rolling-horizon approach was proposed, which aims at the problem of berth allocation and quay crane assignment. Then a dynamic allocation model using objective programming was initially developed for berths allocation and quay crane assignment, which more closes realistic as result of basing continuum quayside. The model objective function was subject to the minimization of the total berthing location deviation, the total penalty and the energy consumption of quay cranes. Then, a hybrid parallel genetic algorithm (HPGA) was employed for solving the model, which combines parallel genetic algorithm (PGA) and heuristic Algorithm. Furthermore, a simulation model integrating HPGA was developed for evaluating this HPGA and executing gene repair techniques to repair the unfeasible individuals generated by HPGA. Finally, case study on a specific container terminal was used for system illustration, and then verified the validity and usefulness of this model and algorithm.

Train schedule is the base of train organization as well as the fundamental working plan of transportation department. The running scheme of passenger train whose essence is to determine the initial schedule decides the skeleton of making the passenger train schedule. Present literatures researching train scheme considers the convenience for passenger travel or arrival and departure track dependently. On the basis of analyzing some constraint conditions such as the convenient to the passengers and the coordinate utilization of arrival and departure tracks and parking lines for rolling stock, taking the minimum of passenger carriage as the objective function, this paper establishes an objective programming model for optimizing the initial schedule of passenger trains, and puts forward a method for the model which is basing on improved Genetic Algorithm. The original time and the end time of passenger trains that satisfy the convenience to the passengers, economical carriage and the coordination between the utilization of arrival and departure tracks and parking tines for rolling stock can be obtained expediently by using this model.

Genetic algorithms, owning to their characteristics of intrinsic parallel mechanism and full optimization, can be used to search for solutions for objective programming. In this study, empirical study method was combined with the multi-objective optimization to develop a multi-objective forest harvest adjustment model by introducing Pareto multi-objective genetic algorithm into optimization model. This methodology was applied to Fengshu Moutain tree farm, Jiangxi province and the obtained results showed that integrating of the genetic algorithm with the multi-objective programming of the forest harvest adjustment led to non-inferior solution set which provided much greater choice space for decision-making. Moreover, this method overcame the shortcomings that exist in the original harvest adjustment procedure in which different objective weight values are needed. In addition, the genetic algorithm successfully achieved the adjustment of Masson Pine age-class area and balancing rate as well as increased volume and volume yield per unit area.
