This paper presents a new dynamic reliability approach which is able to take into account the various operating conditions under which the considered system has evolved (past and present). To this end, we propose a differential model of failure rate, combined with the state space representation of the process, as well as a parameterization procedure. A numerical example shows the practical applicability of the proposed approach.

Analysis and identification of distributed parameter model for wood drying systems

A new approach based on the decomposition, in position-time space, of operating functions (OFs) is proposed and various criteria of parameter identification like the output least squares (OLS) and the regularized least squares (RLS) are formulated and incorporated in the framework. Several optimization algorithms such as the Gauss-Newton, conjugate gradient and Levenberg-Marquardt are diligently modified and computed in order to search the performed algorithm to identify, in space and time, the numerical fields of the model parameters. Because the sensitivity of the criteria to the design variables plays a very important role in the optimization problem, various techniques such as finite difference method and direct differentiation method are tested. The enhanced performance of the model with the newly identified OFs is proved by a higher conformity of its predictions with the real data of drying wood systems (DWSs).

The internal model proposed is a nonlinear system of a few partial differential equations. The boundary conditions for the differential equations are specified at the lumber board entrance and between the wood and air. The initial conditions are calibrated by solving the static model and by the technical experiment. In conclusion, it can be said that the consistency of the model with experimental results seems to be reasonably good and can be used for process simulation and control.

In this paper, the programming and computer subroutines of wood drying process (WDP) are studied. This WDP is represented by the set of non-linear partial differential equations which are decomposed into fast and slow subsystems. Moreover, a few procedures have been used to estimate piecewise linear parameters and to reconstruct the real parameter distributions along the drying kiln. Several aspects including estimating stepsize, tuning sensitivity of the operating functions, and general solutions of the internal model (IM) are discussed and illustrated.

We consider a strong lattice property for a Banach function space B on a compact Hausdorff space, which gives a general Stone-Weierstrass theorem for B. FAST AND SLOW GENERATION OF A MULTILEVEL CONTROL FOR THE WOOD DRYING PROCESS

ABSTRACTABSTRACTThe dynamic characteristics of the wood drying process were represented by an actuator network and an internal model. These two subsystems are composed of a set of ordinary differential, partial differential and algebraic equations with adjusting operating functions. The formulation of the operating functions is based on interaction between air and the lumber board in a semi-industrial drying kiln. Using this internal model, it was possible to establish a state observer, a state predictor, and a reference model for which the boundary conditions were generated by the actuator network. Simulation results were obtained with a C++ software package. In order to implement the optimization techniques to the wood drying process, the two-level control structure was proposed and tested for a minimum drying time as a performance criterion. Numerical results confirm that the internal model and its operating functions were properly chosen.
