Effects of operation parameters on Heat Transfer in Tubular Moving Bed Heat Exchangers:A CFD-DEM Study

Tubular moving bed heat exchangers(MBHEs)present inherent advantages for efficiently and stably recovering sensible heat from high-temperature granular *** this study,we introduce a viable and practical approach based on the combined approach of Computational Fluid Dynamics with Discrete Element Method(CFD-DEM)and employ it to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the effects of operation parameters on tubular *** parameters include inlet particle temperature(ranging from 500℃to 700℃),tube wall temperature(ranging from 50℃to 250℃),and particle descent velocity(ranging from 0.5 mm/s to 12 mm/s).Our analysis reveals that the heat radiation and gas film heat conduction predominantly govern the heat transfer process in the particle-fluid-wall system,collectively contributing to approximately 90%of the total heat flux of tube wall(Q_(w)^(simu)).The results indicate that increasing the inlet particle temperature and reducing the tube wall temperature intensify heat transfer by enlarging the temperature *** interestingly,Q_(w)^(simu) exhibits three distinct stages as particle descent velocity increases,including an ascent stage,a descent stage,and a stable ***,the simulation attempts suggest that the optimal descent velocity for maximizing Q_(w)^(simu) falls within the range of 1.3-2.0 mm/*** findings not only uncover the precise influence mechanisms of operation parameters on heat transfer outcomes but also offer valuable insights for heat transfer enhancement efficiency in MBHE system.

Mine coal flow transportation has some typical features of long-distance and complex environments. The transportation equipment usually adopts the mode of constant speed, which makes a large amount of energy waste. To solve these problems, the characteristics of the coal flow transportation system are analyzed. Based on a principal component analysis-convolutional neural network (PCA-CNN), the operation parameters optimization method of coal flow transportation equipment is proposed. Taking the transport time, transport cost, and equipment utilization of belt conveyors and other equipment as the optimization objectives, the multi-objective functions are established, and the operation parameters such as transport speed, transport distance, and equipment start-up time are optimized. The PCA and the CNN are respectively used to determine the weight of each objective function and iteratively train the practical production data samples under multiple constraints. The fully connected layer of CNN is constructed by the Lagrange multiplier method. The optimal production mode and operation parameters of the coal flow transportation equipment are obtained, satisfying the multi-objective functions and constraints. Finally, the practical engineering case is simulated by Plant Simulation, and the operation parameters of the coal flow transportation equipment are compared before and after optimization. The research results show that the objective function of each experiment is optimized to some degree. Furthermore, comprising other common algorithms, the advantages and effectiveness of the based-CNN operation parameters optimization method are verified. These have an important guiding significance for energy-saving and efficient coal flow transportation equipment operation.

The high energy consumption of the microalgae dewatering process results in microalgae being less economically feasible as a new bioenergy material. As an energy-saving method, forward osmosis (FO) filtration can be applied in microalgae dewatering to reduce membrane fouling and energy consumption. In this study, a novel hybrid dead-end/cross-flow FO system was proposed to obtain highly efficient microalgae dewatering. The effects of agitation speed, draw solution concentration, and pH on microalgae and membrane flux reduction volume concentration factors were investigated using Box-Behnken design (BBD) of response surface methodology (three factors and three levels). The results demonstrated that the higher the draw solution concentration and agitation speed, the higher the volume concentration factors. When the draw solution concentration and agitation speed reached their maximums (5 M and 500 r, respectively), the maximum volume concentration factor was obtained (3.73). pH exhibited the greatest influence on flux reduction. The flux reduction decreased more with an increase in pH (pH > 7). When the pH was neutral or acidic, the influence of pH on flux was insignificant. This study provided a more efficient method for dewatering and reduced energy consumption by applying a BBD to optimize the operation parameters of a novel hybrid dead-end/cross-flow FO system for microalgae dewatering. Taking a three-pressure reheated gas-steam combined cycle unit as the research object, the detailed efficiency calculation model of gas turbine and heat recovery steam generator was established, and the influence of various thermal parameters of gas turbine and heat recovery steam generator on efficiency was analyzed. Using MATLAB software programming, the relationship between the efficiency of gas turbine and heat recovery steam generator with various thermal parameters is obtained, and the sensitivity of gas turbine and heat recovery steam generator efficiency to various thermal parameters is analyzed, and the thermal parameters that have the greatest impact on efficiency are found. Optimized operation of power plant parameters plays a guiding role.

In this paper, the operation parameters of a one-way spiral flow casting roller were simulated. Varies optimization proposals on the casting roller were brought out mainly focusing on the inlet and outlet cavities. Both the inlet pressure and drum rotational speed was found having direct influence on water delivery capacity. The water delivering capacity was increased when the inlet pressure was rising without varying the total pressure loss of the system. The water delivery capacity of the system was dropped after the initial growth with the increasing drum rotation speed. Study on operation parameters can provide technical guidance for the actual operation of casting roller. Additional guide vanes in the water inlet and outlet cavities were designed to improve the capacity of water delivery. The total pressure loss of optimized structure was reduced by 10%. The total water supply and pressure loss of the new designs were better than those of the current structure under the same conditions. Adding the vanes in outlet cavity was found having the most outstanding effect. In actual operation, the water supply pressure and the drum speed should be comprehensively determined to make the system more energy efficient

Modeling influence of basic operation parameters on plasma jet

In plasma spray, operation parameters, including current, flow rate of primary gas, and flow rate of secondary gas, would influence the heat and acceleration status of particles greatly, thus influencing the coating's final quality. As the first stage to optimize the spraying technology, this paper investigates the typical Ar-He plasma spray process, analyzing the influence mechanism of current, flow rate of Ar, as well as flow rate of He on the temperature field and velocity field. The chemical reactions and turbulence are fully taken into account. It is found that the electrical current is apparently influential to both the jet temperature and velocity, and further the ionization of Ar atoms. With increasing Ar or He flow rates independently, the temperature of theplasma jet will be decreased, and the velocity of the plasma jet will be increased. Related inner mechanisms are revealed in detail. The results presented in this paper would be theoretically helpful for further study of the interaction between the plasma jet and the particles, and the optimization of the plasma-spraying technology. @ 2007 Elsevier B.V. Effects of operation parameters on NO emission in an oxy-fired CFB combustor

Oxy-fuel Circulating Fluidized Bed (CFB) combustion technology, a very promising technology for CO(2) capture, combines many advantages of oxy-fuel and CFB technologies. Experiments were carried out in a 50 kW(th) CFB facility to investigate how operation parameters influence the NO emission in O(2)/CO(2) atmospheres. The simulated O(2)/CO(2) atmospheres were used without recycling the flue gas. Results show that NO emission in 21% O(2)/79% CO(2) atmosphere is lower than that in air atmosphere because of lower temperature and higher char and CO concentrations in the dense bed. Elevating O(2) concentration from 21% to 40% in O(2)/CO(2) atmosphere enhances fuel-N conversion to NO. Increasing bed temperature or oxygen/fuel stoichiometric ratio brings higher NO emission in O(2)/CO(2) atmosphere, which is consistent with the results in air-fired CFB combustion. As primary stream fraction increases, NO emission increases more rapidly in O(2)/CO(2) atmosphere than that in air atmosphere. Stream staging is more efficient for controlling NO emission in oxy-CFB combustion than that in air combustion. Oxygen staging provides an efficient way to reduce NO emission in oxy-CFB combustion without influencing the hydrodynamic characteristic in the riser. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Experimental investigation on voltage response to operation parameters of a unitized regenerative fuel cell during mode switching from fuel cell to electrolysis cell

In this work, a proton exchange membrane unitized regenerative fuel cell with a 25 cm(2) active area and a transparent window was designed to study the influence of mode switching from the fuel cell mode to the electrolysis cell mode on the cell voltage and the gas-liquid two-phase flow behaviors in the oxygen flow channels. Results indicate that: the growth rate of electrolysis cell voltage before the water pumped to the oxygen flow channels decreases with the increase of the fuel cell current density;while the growth rate of electrolysis cell voltage before the water pumped to the oxygen flow channels increases with the cell temperature;the voltage of electrolysis cell mode before the water pumped to the oxygen flow channels decreases with the increase of water flow rate;the different voltage reduction speeds are attributed to the different water flow rates. The water temperature has an obscure influence on the cell voltage of electrolysis cell mode before the water pumped to the oxygen flow channels.

The optimization of operation parameters in ultrafiltration process is of importance in fully exploitation of its advantages. In this paper, the erythromycin broth filter-press-filtrate filtrate was used as a model solution to be ultrafiltrated by using a hollow-fiber membrane. The pumping rate, operation pressure, concentration ratio and temperature were optimized. The comparison among various optimization methods was also discussed. The results are universal, and should be also useful on other application areas of ultrafiltration process. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Energy performance in railway services: a calculation methodology and the influence of operation parameters

This study proposes a methodology for assessing the energy performance of railway service based on a micro-simulation of how trains run. In particular, the analysis focuses on the influence on energy consumption of three parameters, namely: line speed, stops frequency and timetable period. The performance assessment methodology aims to monitor the trend of two output variables: motion technique efficiency and specific consumption of the trains. The study has been developed on two levels. The first analysis concerns the assessing of the run of a single train;subsequently a timetable-based analysis is performed for a specific time window. At this level, it is also possible to consider the effects of regenerative braking on the entire consumption. This part of the article reports the results of run simulations and the related energy consumption of a regional train on a theoretical line, subsequently extending assessments to the timetable level. The second part describes the results of simulations of a run of the same train on a real line, as well as an analysis of the energy performance of a current timetable.
