A reinforcement learning-enhanced multi-objective iterated greedy algorithm for weeding-robot operation scheduling problems

With technological advancements, robots have been widely used in various fields and play a vital role in the production execution system of a smart farm. However, the operation scheduling problem of robots within production execution systems has not received much attention so far. To enable efficient management, this paper develops a multi-objective mathematical model concerning both the efficiency and economic indicators. We propose a population-based iterated greedy algorithm enhanced with Q-learning (Q_DPIG) for a multi-weedingrobots operation scheduling problem. An index-based heuristic (IBH) is designed to generate a diverse set of initial solutions, while an adaptive destruction phase, guided by the Q-learning framework, ensures effective neighborhood search and solution optimization. Additionally, a local search method focusing on the high-load and the critical robots is employed to further optimize the two objectives. Finally, Q_DPIG is demonstrated to be effective and significantly outperform the state-of-the-art algorithms through comprehensive test datasets and a real case study from a farmland management center.

In this paper, the optimal scheduling for an energy storage system (ESS) is proposed for redispatching the conventional generation, considering the aspects of economy and reliability. The aim of the optimal scheduling problem is to achieve a maximum benefit including minimal fuel as well as ESS aging costs, while satisfying a specific reliability constraint. In terms of the reliability evaluation, the reliability constraint is newly formularized for ESS to have a higher state of charge (SOC) level than the minimum SOC level required to satisfy a specific reliability level over time. In addition, the life time and capacity degradation of the ESS, its major characteristics, are also formularized and considered in order to express the ESS aging cost. The optimal scheduling problem is solved by the proposed tracing method, which is based on dynamic programming and is formulated using the cumulative transition matrix. The proposed method is demonstrated using data from various generating units including renewable energy resources (RES) and an ESS, for four cases, to verify the proposed method. The use of renewable energy (RE) resources in off-grid applications is a promising solution from both the economic and environmental perspectives. However, the employment of RE generation should consider the uncertainty in their generation output;in particular, short-term variations in generation output result in serious frequency violations. The development of the off-grid planning, operation, and scheduling considering frequency variation is significant. This study proposes a probabilistic model for the frequency variation caused by load variation, which includes the dynamics of rotating generators and frequency-supporting smart inverters. The proposed method calculates the maximum frequency deviation by transforming the block, considering the output limit of the governor and smart inverters. This calculation is fast because it does not require time-sequential simulation. The effectiveness of the proposed method for off-grid operational scheduling problems was demonstrated through numerical studies. The results show that the proposed method can evaluate the same results as time series simulations 1500 times faster. Additionally, frequency deviations caused by short-term variations can be avoided, and battery capacity for zero frequency deviation is estimated with a 5% error. These results have the potential to contribute significantly to the operation of the grid with a large portion of RE resources.

Multiagent-System-Based operation scheduling of Large Ports' Power Systems With Emissions Limitation

Ports and its surrounding areas are major energy consumers and polluters. Optimal operation scheduling of port power demand may provide effective solutions for port efficiency improvement and the limitation of the emissions from ships at berth. Port power demand can be effectively regulated as a variety of flexible loads like shore-to-ship electric power supplies, refrigerated containers, plugged-in electric vehicles, etc., exist in large ports. The main goal of this paper is to propose an innovative mult-iobjective operation scheduling method for large ports that will limit in-port emissions, minimize operation cost, and support the electric network of the port area. A major operation constraint of a port demand management system is the large number of the controlled and supervised port loads. Smart grids exploiting multiagent systems have been proved very effective in such complex systems. The proposed method is applied to a realistic case study of a large port power system and evaluated by detailed simulations.

Distributed power generation, using renewable energy, has been attracting attention to cope with global environment issues;a microgrid is a promising configuration for distributed power generation. To augment the stability and efficiency of the microgrid, an intelligent control, which considers the restrictions and characteristics of each unit, is indispensable. It can be achieved by constructing an efficient operation schedule for each power plant in the microgrid, depending on energy demand, and predicting passive power generation. The operation scheduling is regarded as a constrained optimization problem, which must have nonlinear characteristics in case of actual systems. Although several methods using metaheuristic optimization have been proposed, it would be trapped into a local minimum in some cases. In this paper, we statistically analyze operation schedules, computed for an actual power network of the demonstrative project. In addition, we conduct an investigation of the relationship between the input parameter space and the solution space, which can be exploited to obtain more appropriate initial solutions leading to better and faster converging solutions.

In recent years, a large amount of photovoltaic (PV) generation capacity has been installed in power systems. However, the power output from the PVs is random and intermittent in nature. Therefore, PV generation poses many challenges to power system operation. To estimate the impact of these issues on power system operation, we propose an optimal weekly demand and supply simulation method considering large penetration of PV generation. In this paper, an operation scheduling method considering optimal hot reserve capacity is studied. The effectiveness of the proposed method is shown by using Monte Carlo simulation. Optimal operation scheduling of a Microgrid Incorporating Battery Swapping Stations

This paper proposes optimal operation scheduling of a Microgrid (MG) and battery swapping stations (BSSs) as two independent stakeholders with inherently conflicting objectives. In this regard, a bi-level scheduling framework for optimal decision making of MG and BSSs is presented. Moreover, battery degradation cost is explicitly modeled based on the depth of discharge and the cycle life's intrinsic behavior of batteries. In order to tackle both historical data-based and human-related uncertainties under incomplete information including load demand of MG, photovoltaic generation, wholesale market prices, and swapping requests, a hybrid probabilistic-possibilistic approach considering correlation among uncertainties has been developed. To solve the proposed MG-BSS optimization problem, alternative direction method of multipliers (ADMM) with restart algorithm in a fully decentralized fashion is implemented. The effectiveness of the proposed model is demonstrated on a real-test MG system under different scenarios. Moreover, to compare the computational complexity of the proposed algorithm with the standard ADMM and investigate the scalability of the algorithm, extensive simulations are carried out on different standard test system.

Research on decentralized operation scheduling strategy of integrated energy system based on energy blockchain

With the increasing proportion of renewable energy generation connected to grid, the architecture, control method, and operation mode of the energy system begin to change. The energy system has some problems, such as difficult to maintain the privacy of energy suppliers, difficult to distinguish the authenticity of data, and low security and reliability. The introduction of blockchain technology into energy system to form an energy blockchain network is conducive to solving the information security and other issues. Aiming at the integrated energy system (IES) with renewable energy generation, the practical Byzantine fault tolerance (PBFT) algorithm consensus mechanism suitable for IES is proposed to realize the two-stage robust optimal scheduling model, which uses decentralized scheduling strategy and blockchain technology. In the first stage, the technology of decoupling heat power is used to form electrical/thermal iteration chain, and the decentralized scheduling model based on Lagrange multiplier method is built. For the data consistency of decentralized scheduling, the undirected unicom structure is used to establish the communication network between energy suppliers. The thermal/electrical iterative chain and the terminal chain apply the consistency protocol algorithm and Byzantine fault tolerance consensus mechanism to solve the prescheduling scheme based on the decentralized algorithm. In the second stage, the blockchain technology is used to obtain historical data, and a data-driven renewable generation power uncertain set is established to solve the Regulation scheme. This constraint set can exclude some extreme scenarios to reduce the conservatism of the model. In the two-stage optimization process, the verification function of Byzantine fault tolerance consensus mechanism is used to discard the information tampered by malicious attack and enhance the system fault tolerance capability. Review on development prospect of operation scheduling strategies for flexible interconnected distribution network in renewable energy-penetrated power system

As the renewable energy integrates in the power system, the interactions between source, load, and storage equipment in the distribution network become frequent. The original distribution network could not meet the growing demand of the power grid. The use of controlled power electronic devices for flexible interconnection transformation of the distribution network could help improve the controllability, reliability, and safety of the power system and promote the consumption of distributed power sources. It is an important means of evolving towards future intelligent distribution networks. Typical devices for flexible interconnection are discussed of the operating characteristics. In addition, the core technologies of flexible interconnected distribution network system are introduced from the view of point of dispatching. Finally, to achieve a wider application of flexible interconnected distribution networks, the development trend is prospected.
