A minimized optical lens head for dual-beam super-resolution opticalstoragesystem which is based on Stimulated Emission Depletion (STED)-like process with Petabyte data capacity is proposed. The whole bulky optical path is simplified to a customized metasurface with a diameter of 50m, which generates a focused Gaussian beam and a donut beam overlapped perfectly in space. The specially designed lens head offers a distinct performance of chromatic aberration-free design with adaptability to multiple dual-beam combinations.

In this paper, we employed full vector diffraction treatment to study the dependence of the servo signals to the doughnutshaped focus radiation of radial polarization, which provides a smaller spot size than linear polarization, and the resistance to the primary aberrations in a numerical aperture (NA) = 1.0 optical data storage system. Compared with linear polarization, at strong focusing, a radially polarized beam leads to 14% asymmetry reduction in the linear range of the focus-error signal (FES) curve and to at least 56% variation reduction in crosstalk in a weakly aberrated system. These characteristics make radial polarization a potential candidate for next-generation high-density opticalsystems.

Toward the development of optical data storage system, higher resolution and broader operating bandwidth optical pickup is necessary for high data-density optical discs such as Blu-ray disc (BD). This paper is aim at developing a piezo-based actuator to replace existing voice coil motor (VCM) actuator for providing precise tracking and focusing positioning in optical disk devices. Double lead compensator is designed to forge control efforts toward precise tracking and focusing motions, while verifying the capability of the piezo-based actuator. Simulation and experiments are conducted to evaluate the performances of the proposed actuator for precise positioning of optical pickup devices.

In this study, we employ vectorial diffraction to examine the focusing mechanism of radially polarized beams using an immersion objective with linear and circular polarized illuminations. Radial polarization features a sharp focus in a highnumerical-aperture (NA) system. The longitudinal component governing spot formation depends on the bending of the polarization vector rather than the immersion circumstance. As the marginal angle of the objective exceeds 64.16 and 71.81 degrees, the depolarization effect of the radially polarized beam enables a smaller spot than the linear and circular polarizations, respectively.

The irradiance in the exit pupil of a typical optical data storage system (i.e., the detector pattern) consists of fringes formed by the interference of fields reflected from the optical disk. The reflected fields are decomposed using Babinet's principle into desired and undesired components. The behavior of the fringes depends on the interaction of the focused light spot with the features on the optical disk and media parameters. such as mark and land reflectivities, groove depth, and mark pattern. The behavior of the desired and of the undesired fringes are determined for both write-bright media (bright data marks written on a dark background) and write-dark media (dark marks written on a bright background).
