An optimization algorithm based on artificial life algorithm and particle swarm optimization (PSO) is proposed. The optimization includes two stages. In the first stage, artificial life system is created. As artificial life organisms have a sensing system, they can find the resource they want and metabolize it. The micro-interaction with each other in the artificial life's group results in emergent colonization in the whole system. The emergent colonization of artificial life system is used to provide an excellent initial position for PSO, and PSO is further used to rind the optimal solution in the second stage. Compared with ordinary artificial life based optimization approach and ordinary PSO approach by simulation, in the newly designed method, the performances of searching speed and optimization solution accuracy are improved.

Efficiency of an organic solar cell is very sensitive to fabrication procedure. One of the most important parameters is active layer morphology which radically influences several cell properties such as generation rate, layer resistance, charge carrier motilities etc. Meantime, in P3HT:fullerene based solar cells, using PCBM would improve the morphology and increase the cost simultaneously. On the other hand, C-60 is way less expensive, but its limited solubility in common solvents would influence cell performance. To benefit from its cost and as the formation of C-60 aggregates and P3HT crystallinity significantly depend on the solvent which would influence several cell properties, one should find a proper solvent. To make an in-depth investigation of solvent effects, experimental investigations will not suffice and using a precise model to fit the data and extract hidden parameters would help us to have a deep understanding of the cells physical basis. In this work, an optimization algorithm is employed to fit a numerical model simulation results with experiments and the model benefits from a field dependent series resistance. Simulation results indicate that a suitable solvent mainly improves the cell performance by changing 3 basic parameters which are G, mu(n) and mu(p). Additionally, although parameters such as E-g and DC dielectric constant are very crucial in determining power conversion efficiency, they cannot be effectively improved changing the solvent. It is reported that the cell prepared by Cl-naph: CB performs better than the other cells. Considering our results, it can be attributed to its larger G, mu(n) and mu(p). It also has the least R-s and the largest R-sh among all other P3HT:C60 based cells (which is caused by its higher mobility-carrier density product). This work gives experimentalists an idea of how they should choose a solvent. The results can also be generalized to find a proper solvent for other active layer materials.

With the rapid development of communication technology and mobile Internet, masses of location-based services which can meet users' requirements are appearing explosively. So how to select the personalized service with the higher quality is becoming the research hot spot under mobile Internet environment. In this paper, first of all, it organizes services which meet the requirement of users based on their location information and preference information. Secondly, the LBS composition optimization process is presented, which is mainly to find and acquire the appropriate LBS sequences based on user's QoS constraints. Finally, it adopts the collaboration evaluation method to measure the LBS sequences based on QoS indexes, which can get the optimal service for different users. The above procedures accomplish the evaluation for location-based services, which can satisfy user preferences efficiently.

Introduction: The ECG Bayesian filtering framework has been shown to be a promising method to extract the foetal electrocardiogram (FECG) from abdominal recordings. This framework requires an estimation of the ECG morphology, which is obtained by approximating an average beat with a number of Gaussian kernels. This approximation results in a high dimensional nonlinear optimization problem (finding ideal positions, width and height for these kernels). Methods: Proposed methodologies in the literature initialize the optimization algorithm using fixed positions for the kernel functions. This contribution benchmarks alternative schemes for finding the Gaussian parameters, namely an approach based on the stationary wavelet transform and random search. The goal is minimizing the normalized mean squared error between the average beat and the approximated model, while increasing foetal QRS detection accuracy. Results: The suggested methods are able to produce improved morphology approximations of the averaged beat up 4.05% (depending on the selected method). The proposed method using the stationary wavelet transform improves the goodness of the fit, while reducing the computational load. However, no immediate improvement on the accuracy of FQRS detections was noticed. Such findings render the proposed method a promising tool. However, further research should be directed at transferring the improved fit to an improvement of FQRS detections.

An undersized and speedy measurement system for Wi-Fi radiation performance is presented. To overcome the lack of a standard measurement system for the newly released standards, we adopted the non-signaling mode emulator to our system. To realize this, a physical interface between the control PC and device under test (DUT) is added to support direct chip control techniques. Some peripheral hardware devices and a test program are developed as well. To provide much faster test environment in both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz Wi-Fi band, we modified the test method and introduced a sensitivity prediction algorithm to our system. A new optimization algorithm is also embedded into the new test program to obtain more accurate results. The test results with 18 mobile phones show a good agreement within an acceptable tolerance level when compared to the commercial chamber one. The extended scope of the proposed system covers not only the legacy 802.11b/g/a standards but also the recently commercialized 802.11n/ac standards.

In order to improve the setting accuracy of rolling force model, a comprehensive parameters adaptive objective function of rolling force was established. During the adaptive process, the adaptive coefficients of friction coefficient and deformation resistance were taken as the optimized parameters, and the Rosenbrock algorithm was used to search the optimal solution of the objective function. The proposed adaptive method has been applied successfully to a 1450mm 5-stand tandem cold mill. Application results show that the forecast accuracy of rolling force model has been improved significantly.

Electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming more popular in modern society. These vehicles can be charged at home or in public areas with standard outlets. However, the extra power demand affects the distribution network (DN) in terms of power losses. If these vehicles are connected into the DN during peak times, it increases the power losses. One effective methods to solve this issue would be the introduction of energy storage systems (ESSs). Therefore, both active and reactive power dispatch combined with different charging periods, off peak and peak, for the ESS is proposed in this paper. The research provides both uncoordinated optimal active-reactive power flow (UA-RPF) of the ESS and the coordinated optimal active-reactive power flow (CA-RPF) of the ESS, which improves the performance of the DN. Results for the IEEE-33 distribution system are presented. It is demonstrated that 1.43MW total power losses (TPL) and 1.64MW of imports from the transmission network (TN) can be reduced by using the proposed approach.

The increasing number of electric vehicles (EVs) in the near future will require control systems endowed with adequate algorithms able to manage their recharging process and avoiding massive investment in reinforcement of low voltage distribution network infrastructure. The deployment of EVs as an alternative to internal combustion engines will pose new challenges for electric power systems, grid operators, electricity suppliers and consumers. The impacts of the increasing penetration of EVs will be felt at the level of the distribution grid, as the lack of infrastructure capacity may hinder the increasing number of EVs from being simultaneously charged. Scenarios in which there is no local coordination between all the EVs to be charged through the same distribution power transformer may lead to new peak demands, possibly impeding the charging of all the vehicles. Therefore, the increasing number of EVs will require a control system to manage their recharging process. This study proposes the development of a decentralized charging control system, which is able to control and optimize the charging process of number of EVs in a coordinate way. Thus charging a greater number of EVs will be feasible without needing to invest in increasing the capacity of the grid infrastructure. To accomplish this, the algorithm considers the users' preferences, such as their next time of use and desired state of charge while taking every user's tariff scheme into consideration (i.e. different price structures/values and contracted power). The optimization objectives will be set for both the distribution grid operator, maximizing the number of EVs being charged simultaneously and for the consumers, minimizing the deviation from the minimum cost of the charge. This paper proposes a group search optimizer (GSO) for optimal power flow (OPF) control based on a flexible AC transmission system (FACTS). FACTS has been successfully applied to steady-state control of power system, which determines the optimal location of FACTS devices and their associated values in the transmission lines. To solve the optimal solution of FACTS devices, a GSO inspired by animal searching behavior is used in this paper. GSO is a population-based optimization algorithm which has been successfully applied to deal with optimization problem. The proposed method is verified using the IEEE 30-bus 41-transmission system. The results demonstrate that the proposed method improves the total transfer capability and provides better steady-state control of power systems than existing methods.

Graphs denote useful dependencies among objects ubiquitously. This paper introduces new and simple bijections to the integer grid to enable the succinct, canonical and efficient representations of labeled graphs;whereas previous work has focused on regularities in structure such as triangularity, separability, planarity, symmetry and sparsity. By succinct we imply that space is information-theoretically optimal, by canonical we imply that generation of instances is unique, and by efficient we imply that coding and decoding take polynomial time. Our results have direct implications to handle labeled graphs by using single numbers efficiently, which is significant to enable the canonical graph encodings in learning and optimization algorithms. Our bijections are the first known in the literature.
