The growth of data traffic in telecommunication networks has increased the power consumption and its saving has become a key issue in planning and management of telecommunication networks. On the other hand, to guarantee availability and reliability, core optical networks have redundant resources to support extra traffic demand or infrastructure fault. The dedicated path protection (DPP) is an effective and widely used scheme to manage fault. However, networks supporting such strategy keep protection paths in active state, even in conditions where they are not carrying traffic, thus consuming power unnecessarily. To overcome this inefficiency, an effective strategy for decreasing wasted power is an adaptive traffic routing based on sleep mode, which is a state of low power consumption able to change quickly to an active state. The strategy is to route the traffic in order to maximize the amount of network components used by protection paths that can be set in sleep mode. In general, reported strategies reduce power consumption at the expense of increasing blocking probability. In this article, we address the power saving problem in WDM networks using DPP scheme proposing a wider resource search routing and wavelength assignment (RWA), named in-depth (ID-) RWA. Computer simulations based on the COST239 topology showed that the ID-RWA has better performance regarding the compromise between blocking probability and power consumption. Moreover, it manages to decrease the blocking probability while boosting the energy awareness.

An automated procedure for modeling the radiated emissions of electronic devices is presented in this paper. The principle of the model is to replace the device by a set of electric dipoles defined by their positions, orientations, lengths, and currents. Thus, this modeling procedure aims to determine the number of dipoles and their parameters with a minimum user intervention. The procedure is divided into three parts: the near-field measurements of the tangential components of the magnetic field, an image processing to obtain the number of sources of the model, and the application of an optimization algorithm in order to obtain the different parameters of the model, such as the current and the position of each source.

The paper proposes a model for the thermal network of the Savona Campus Smart Polygeneration Microgrid (SPM) in terms of an equivalent electric circuit. Such model allows to represent in a simple but accurate way the behavior of the SPM thermal network in order to insert it into the Energy Management System (EMS) that is presently running in the SPM control room. The parameters of the thermal circuit are identified by means of an algorithm that minimizes the difference between the temperature profile as calculated with the circuit and the measured one.

In order to shorten the computation time of high order statistics and improve the efficiency of LMS algorithms in suppressing the Gaussian noise, here we proposed a new fast algorithm in which the different arrival time of the linear non-Gaussian signal between two spatially separated sensors are estimated. It is assumed that the signals are corrupted by the unknown cross correlated Gaussian noises. With a polarity iterative algorithm, the computational complexity of cumulant is reduced. The simulation results show that the method works well under low SNR condition.

Fourth party logistics (4PL) was widely accepted by many companies nowadays. As one of the most important aspects in 4PL, the fourth party logistics routing problems (4PLRP) is very difficult to solve. Many intelligent methods has been used to solve the 4PLRP. Genetic algorithm (GA) is one fo such intelligent methods. Based on previous research, GA can work efficiently on small-scale 4PLRP. However, GA cannot get high quality solution for large-scale 4PLRP. In this paper, we proposed a hybrid genetic algorithm to solve the 4PLRP problems. The Hooke-Jeeves method, which performs well in local search, is embedded in the proposed method and it can dramatically improves the accuracy and convergence rate of GA. Simulations are carried out to test the performance of the proposed method on a set of 4PLRP instances. Results show that our proposed method is efficient on 4PLRP.

Support vector machine(SVM) has been widely applied for classification and regression problems. But it is very sensitive to the selection of parameters. The fundamental principles of SVM are analyzed firstly. The main optimization methods and achievements for SVM parameters are introduced. And the popular fitness functions used for the parameter optimization of SVM are described. The main goal of the paper is to provide a brief overview on the recent researches for parameter optimization of SVM and enable the researchers to utilize or propose new parameter optimization methods for SVM-related studies.

Robust identification of enzymatic nonlinear dynamical systems for 1,3-propanediol transport mechanisms in microbial batch culture

In this paper, in view of glycerol bioconversion to 1,3-propanediol (1,3-PD) by Klebsiella pneumoniae (K. pneumoniae), we study an enzyme-catalytic nonlinear dynamic system with uncertain parameters for formulating the process of batch culture. Some important properties are also discussed. Taking account of the difficulty in accurately measuring the concentrations of intracellular substances and the absence of equilibrium point of the nonlinear system in batch culture, a novel approach is used here to define quantitatively biological robustness of the intracellular substance concentrations for the overall process of batch culture. The purpose of this paper is to identify these uncertain parameters. To this end, taking the defined biological robustness as a performance index, we establish an identification model, which is subject to the nonlinear system. Simultaneously, the existence of optimal solution to the identification model is deduced. We develop an optimization algorithm, based on novel combinations of Nelder Mead algorithm and the change rate of state variable, for solving the identification model under various experiment conditions. The convergence analysis of this algorithm is also investigated. Numerical results not only show that the established model can be used to describe the process of batch culture reasonably, but also imply that the optimization algorithm is valid. Multiobjective Design of Water Distribution Networks through the Generation of Pseudofronts in the Hydraulically Feasible Region

The design of a water distribution network (WDN) is conceptually a multiobjective problem characterized by stringent constraints. Even in its most simple formulation, which requires only the maintenance of minimum pressures, it is difficult to solve, and the simplifications introduced often impair the practicality of the solutions. The paper aims at integrating an engineering approach to the optimization problem by generating pseudofronts in the hydraulically feasible region of the search space. The optimization algorithms provide an entirely feasible trade-off between cost and considered constraints, which may be directly used by a hypothetical decision maker. This engineering approach requires a fast tool to search for feasible solutions: the recently developed genetic heritage by stochastic evolution transmission (GHEST) algorithm, used herein, has proved to be effective and efficient in solving the optimal design problem of WDNs. Tests are carried out on two large-size water distribution networks (Balerma and Modena), using the GHEST algorithm, modified to account for several objectives. In this paper Teaching-Learning-Based optimization (TLBO) algorithm has been used to design of the plasmonic nano spheres in order to achieve the maximum absorption coefficient spectrum. In TLBO, a group of learners controls the nano spheres radius, the nano sphere distances, and the number of nano spheres in three dimensions. This approach is useful in optical applications such as solar cells and plasmonic nano antenna.
