An optimization model for Inventory System and the Algorithm for the Optimal Inventory Costs Based on Supply-Demand Balance

In order to investigate the inventory optimization of circulation enterprises, demand analysis was carried out firstly considering supply-demand balance. Then, it was assumed that the demand process complied with mutually independent compound Poisson process. Based on this assumption, an optimization model for inventory control of circulation enterprises was established with the goal of minimizing the average total costs in unit time of inventory system. In addition, the optimal computing algorithm for inventory costs was presented. Meanwhile, taking the agricultural enterprises in Aksu, Xinjiang, China, for example, the researchers conducted numerical simulation and sensitivity analysis. Through constantly adjusting and modifying the parameters values in model, the optimal stock and the optimal inventory costs were obtained. Therein, the numerical results showed that the uncertainty of lead time greatly influenced the optimal inventory strategy. Besides, it was demonstrated that the research results provided a valuable reference for the agricultural enterprises in terms of optimal management for inventory system.

Taking full advantage of what laser cutting technology offers in terms of achieving superb quality cuts at low cost and high production rates requires the optimization of laser cutting parameters. This implies the need to formulate and solve different laser cutting optimization problems. In this article, an optimization model for CO2 laser cutting of mild steel is developed. The laser cutting optimization problem was explicitly formulated as a single-objective optimization problem with five non-linear constraints of the equality, inequality and range type. The goal was to determine the laser cutting parameter values so as to maximize the material removal rate while simultaneously considering practical process constraints related to dross formation, kerf width, perpendicularity deviation, surface roughness and severance energy. Two crossed experimental designs of different resolutions were performed in order to define six mathematical models, which were used in the formulation of the optimization problem. For the purpose of optimization, the exhaustive iterative search algorithm was applied, since it determines solutions whose optimality is guaranteed in the given discrete space of input variable values. The practical usability of the developed laser cutting optimization model and the effectiveness of the applied optimization approach were proved while solving a real case study aimed at the optimization of laser cutting parameters for cutting parts for the furnace industry.

A new optimization model for wastewater treatment planning with a temporal component

The management of wastewater systems constitutes a complex problem in the environmental engineering field. The variability and uncertainty of the inflows of wastewater treatment plants involve a real risk of reducing the effectiveness of the treatments and worsen the ecological state of river basins. An adequate reduction of contaminants requires an optimal combination of wastewater contributions that must constitute the treatment inflow. The problem is complex because of different dynamics and casuistics of wastewater generation, especially when the waste is from industrial activities. In addition, a realistic focus requires consideration of the temporal component due to the distances from the treatment. This paper presents a new optimization model for planning the wastewater inflow in a consistent way, with the novelty from the inclusion of this temporal component. Under the assumption of a complete knowledge of the future, the problem can be expressed as a quadratically constrained program (QCP). With growing problem size, solvers such as CONOPT have increasing difficulties to find good solutions to such problems. Therefore, we propose solving this problem as an online optimization problem in which the quadratic terms are eliminated. Our approach was applied to a virtual case study based on a high number (200) of industrial wastewater generators (located in 4 different zones) and a single wastewater treatment plant. The results obtained evidence the applicability of the model to plan favourably the operation of treatments and contribute to sustainability in the context of the internet of things. Component based software development (CBSD) is well acknowledged as a methodology which establishes reusability of software and reduce development cost effectively. While developing enterprise application using component based software engineering (CBSE) methods, software component selection plays a very important role in the process of component retrieval, adaptation and assembly. However, most of current researches focus on technical aspects from domain engineering and application engineering to improve reusability and system efficiency rather than application of optimization methods in CBSD management, especially application in component selection. Moreover, few existing researches have concerned about the situation where a software developer or enterprise develops multi-applications at the same time. By introducing the concept of reusability and a new formulation of compatibility matrix, an optimization model is proposed to solve component selection problem considering reusability and compatibility simultaneously. The model can be used to assist software developers in selecting software components when multi-applications are undertaken concurrently. Integrated optimization model for hydrogen supply chain network design and hydrogen fueling station planning

This paper focuses on developing a mathematical model that covers the entire hydrogen supply network. The classical hydrogen supply chain network design (HSCND) model is integrated with the hydrogen fueling station planning (HFSP) model to generate a new formulation. The proposed model considers the feedstock supply, the installation and operation of hydrogen facilities, the operation of transportation technologies, and the carbon capture and storage (CCS) system. Two primary hydrogen fueling technologies, namely on-site fueling (hydrogen is produced on-site) and standard fueling (hydrogen is delivered by road), are considered. The problem is formulated as a mixed-integer linear programming (MILP) model that minimizes the least cost of hydrogen (LCOH). The necessity of considering various components within a single framework is demonstrated through a case study in Franche-Comte, France. The role of each key model component (such as the fueling technology, feedstock transportation, and CCS system) is analyzed. The proposed model is capable of studying the interactions that exist between different parts of a hydrogen supply network. Project management is used to coordinate effort during tasks, such as new product design, software engineering, and supply chain improvement. An essential component of project management is the communication plan that directs team members in their use of communication channels for information sharing during the project. Yet, few decision-making tools exist that can help project managers understand the tradeoffs of different communication plans. Herein we connect theory and practice to advance a computational model that provides objective-based assessments of communication plans and helps managers weigh tradeoffs of cost, time, and quality in the use of communication channels across the project. We draw on adaptive structuration theory to understand the impetus to utilize technology in group settings and media richness to explain the capabilities of channels that offer rich synchronous platforms (for e.g., phone, face-to-face, and web conference) and asynchronous lean approaches (for e.g., email, message board, and archive). We describe the tool based on a multiple-criteria decision making model. This model contributes a theoretically based decision support tool for project communication plans.

An optimization model for the real-time truck dispatching problem in open-pit mining operations

This work is concerned with the real-time truck dispatching problem in open-pit mining operations. The proposed methodology is built on a multi-stage dispatching approach to optimize the truck-shovel material handling systems. The procedure consists of two main stages: allocation planning and dynamic allocation. At first, a scenario-based method is presented to estimate the optimal size of trucks in the mining operation. Then, a novel multi-objective mathematical model for solving the problem of dynamically allocating trucks is presented, aiming at minimizing fleet waiting times and deviations from the path production requirements established by the allocation planning. To evaluate the performance of the proposed model, three different heuristic methods, including criteria of minimizing shovel idle time, minimizing ratio variance, and minimizing the deviation from the allocation planning, are developed. Afterward, the dispatching methods are tested by building a discrete-event simulation of a copper ore mine case study to compare the results. The findings suggest that the multi-objective model developed in this paper has a great potential to meet the production requirements of the operation compared to the heuristic algorithms.

Taguchi-factorial type-2 fuzzy random optimization model for planning conjunctive water management with compound uncertainties

In this study, a type-2 fuzzy random optimization (TFRO) method is developed for planning conjunctive water management system associated with compound uncertainties. TFRO can effectively address compound uncertainties expressed as type-2 fuzzy sets, probability distributions, and type-2 fuzzy random variables. Solution algorithm based on the degree of probability and the information of plausibility is proposed to transform nonlinear objective function and constraints into their linear equivalents. A real case of water-resources allocation problem in Zhangweinan River Basin (China) is employed to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed method. A Taguchi-factorial type-2 fuzzy random model is also formulated through introducing Taguchi design and ANOVA technique into the TFRO framework. Results obtained can help reveal the relationship among multiple impact factors of economic, environmental and resource (water conveyance efficiency, water delivery cost, and system violation risk), as well as quantify their contributions to the variability of system benefit and water allocation schemes. Improved coal combustion optimization model based on load balance and coal qualities

Combustion optimization by fine tuning combustion parameters of boilers can cut down NOx emissions effectively with little cost. Coal qualities, which change from time to time, have great influences on NOx emissions. However, the current NOx reduction optimization model cannot handle with this problem well. What is more, the output load would deviate from the demand load as the boiler efficiency is also affected by the optimized manipulated variables (MVs). In this paper, an on-line method to calculate coal qualities based on reverse balance thermal efficiency model was integrated into the optimization model. Furthermore, a new constraint was added to the optimization model to meet the demand load. NOx emission characteristics of some 600 MW capacity utility boiler were investigated. Fine selected MVs were taken as the inputs of support vector machines (SVM) and NOx emission was taken as the output, respectively. Parameters of SVM were fine tuned by particle swarm optimization algorithm (PSO). Combustion optimization for the studied boiler was undertaken based on the proposed optimization model. Results showed that the new model can provide lower NOx emissions and meet demand loads at the same time. (c) 2017 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Solid-state hydrogen storage station is an excellent new energy storage mode, which has been applied on the ground in the engineering field. However, it still needs to be optimized in terms of practical application scenarios and payback cycle. Therefore, this paper proposes an optimization model of a ring-grid distribution system for a solid-state hydrogen storage station with photovoltaic power generation (RHP). Distributed photovoltaic power generation is common on the rooftops of villages and factories, and the model integrates the characteristics of the solid-state hydrogen storage station with them, and uses the solid-state hydrogen storage station as the point of contact to loop the villages and factories in a low-voltage network, and establishes an optimization model with the lowest operating cost as the objective function. The results of the analysis based on typical data show that RHP improves the overall power supply reliability and operation economy of the distribution network, and has good business value and development prospects. © 2023 IEEE.
