The current marketing model of the Chinese High-Speed Rail (CHSR) is quite single, and can not timely adjust according to market segments, which will affect business income and social welfare. In this paper, we adopt the theory of enterprise interests and social welfare equilibrium in microeconomics. Through qualitative and quantitative study, we build the optimization value model of unit marketing investment based on the equilibrium of HSR enterprise interests and social welfare, and analyze the relationship between the change of unit marketing investment and the price elasticity of demand, and we also point out that different marketing strategies should be adopted according to different operation targets. The enterprise should adopt different marketing plan according to different price elasticity - implement non-differentiated marketing strategies in order to pursue social welfare maximization, while implement differentiated strategies in order to pursue enterprise interests maximization. It is practically significant for directing CHSR marketing.

A New optimization model for Project Portfolio Selection Under Interval-Valued Fuzzy Environment

Selecting the right projects is the primary objective of project-oriented organizations. The main concern of this research is to propose a new optimizing model for project evaluation and project portfolio selection under interval-valued fuzzy (IVF) environment. Projects involvement in uncertainties and complexities is notable, and managers have to make decisions under uncertain environments. In order to assist top managers in project selection under these circumstances, investment capitals and net cash flows of the projects in this paper are presented as IVF numbers instead of crisp or classical fuzzy numbers. Using IVF sets enables the proposed model to consider uncertainty more practically which is achieved through addressing vagueness and lack of information intuitively. A new compound index that simultaneously takes risk and return into account is also presented. This approach illustrates both risk level and return level of project and then calculates the risk of unit return of project. Risk is measured by lower semi-variance of projects' returns which is a direct, clear and widely accepted downside risk measure. The presented model is first proposed for project evaluation and comparison;then, it is extended for project portfolio selection problem. Finally, the proposed optimization model is exemplified by evaluating the candidate projects and selecting a portfolio of project in real case study of a holding company in developing countries. Moreover, a numerical example is presented to illustrate the capability of model in large-size problems.

Examining additive manufacturing in supply chain context through an optimization model

This study explores the problem of integrated jobs and vehicles scheduling in a two-stage supply chain, where parts are processed on additive manufacturing (AM) machines and then distributed to customers. In this study, we develop an optimization model for the problem with the objective of makespan minimization. Besides, several structural properties and lower bound formulation are provided to explain the main characteristics of the problem. In this regard, this study also contributes to the existing academic literature by investigating the two-stage supply chain scheduling problem with the additive manufacturing technology. Because the addressed problem belongs to non-deterministic polynomial-time hardness (NP-hard) problem class, a best-fit heuristic-based approach and several selection rules are developed to solve the problem. Each selection rule is designed by considering a distinct structural property of the problem and, thus, each of which is considered to be a different algorithm. A comprehensive experimental study is conducted through random instances, which are generated for small- and large-sized problems by considering real-production data. According to the computational results, the best-fit capacity utilization based selection (BFCUBS) algorithm is superior to others and yields a substantial improvement in the makespan. The reason behind this fact is that the high utilization of capacity enables a large number of jobs to be completed in a short time. Besides, as the number of jobs decreases and the capacity utilization rates increases all algorithms provide better results.

An optimization model for refinery production scheduling

In this paper we describe a production planning and scheduling problem in an oil refinery company. The problem concerns the planning and the utilization of a production process consisting of one distillation unit and two hydro-treatment units. In the process crude oil is transformed to bitumen and naphthenic special oils. The aim of the scheduling is to decide which mode of operation to use in each processing unit at each point in time, in order to satisfy the demand while minimizing the production cost and taking storage capacities into account. The production cost includes costs for changing mode and for holding inventory. We formulate a mixed integer linear programming model for the scheduling problem. The model can be regarded as a generalized lot-sizing problem, where inventory capacities are considered and more than one product is obtained for some modes of operation. A number of modifications and extensions of the model are also discussed. It is shown how the optimization model can be used as a viable tool for supporting production planning and scheduling at the refinery, and that it is possible to analyze scheduling scenarios of realistic sizes. It is also shown that the model can support shipment planning and strategic decisions concerning new products and investments in storage capacity. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.

Mixed transportation optimization model for oilfield water injection synergizing pipeline network and trucks

The water injection network is a common method in oil extraction processes, generally characterized by high energy consumption. Therefore, the adoption of scientifically sound and rational optimization schemes is crucial. However, due to the limited injection capacity of water injection station (WIS), when their supply is less than the demand of the injection wells, trucks are used for supplementary water injection. This paper introduces an oilfield water injection method under water injection pipeline and trucks coordination transport. An optimization model for oilfield water injection in this mixed transportation mode is established to address the supplydemand imbalance in the water injection network. The study uses a specific oilfield water injection system as a case study to validate the applicability of the mixed transportation water injection model (MTWI-model) compared to the conventional water injection model (CWI-model). The findings indicate that when only CWImodel is used, the water volume from the injection station cannot meet the demands of the injection wells, leading to the cessation of some wells and potential overload of pumps in the station, thus affecting the normal operation of the water injection station and ultimately the oil recovery rate. Furthermore, the paper compares the optimization results of the mixed transportation model under two scenarios: fixed and non-fixed water intake points (namely MTWI-FP-model and MTWI-NFP-model). The results show that the mixed transportation mode with non-fixed water intake points is more economical, saving a daily cost of 632.28 Yuan/d compared to the fixed point scenario.

Network based optimization model for pin-type flow field of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell

The flow field of a bipolar plate distributes reactants for polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) fuel cells and removes the produced water from the fuel cells. It greatly influences the performance of fuel cells, especially the concentration losses. Pin-type design, as one of the widely utilized flow field configurations, has the advantage of low pressure drop but the disadvantage of uneven flow distribution and stagnant areas. In this paper, a network-based optimization model was developed to optimize the pin-type flow field configuration. Two optimization cases, uniform flow distribution with and without considering reactant consumption along flow channels, were investigated and the corresponding optimized designs were developed. Three-dimensional numerical simulations of PEM fuel cell were conducted to validate the proposed optimization model and also to compare the performance of the fuel cells using the optimized designs and the regular pin-type design. The numerical results verified the designs generated with the present optimization model. Both the optimized designs exhibited substantially higher fuel cell performance compared to the regular pin-type configuration. Moreover, the optimized design with considering reactant consumption performed even better than the one without considering the consumption, emphasizing the significance of reactant consumption in the flow field optimization model. Multicarrier energy systems: optimization model based on real data and application to a case study

Multicarrier energy systems are increasingly used for a number of applications, among which the supply of electricity, heating, and cooling in buildings. The possibility of switching between different energy sources is a crucial advantage for the optimal fulfillment of the energy demand. The flexibility of these systems can benefit from the integration with smart grids, which have strong variations in time during their operation. The energy price is the parameter that is usually considered, but also the primary energy factor and the greenhouse gases emissions need to be accounted. This paper presents an application of an operational optimization method for a multicarrier energy system, based on real data-driven model and applied to different countries. The generation plant of a hospital is considered as case study, coping with multiple energy needs by relying on different conversion technologies. The optimal operation of the system shows a wide range of variability, depending on the chosen objective function, the hour of the day, the season, and the country. The results are affected mostly by the energy mix of the electricity supplied from the power grid, which has a direct influence on the primary energy consumption and the greenhouse gases emissions and an indirect influence on the electricity prices.

A thermal energy balance optimization model of cutting space enabling environmentally benign dry hobbing

Dry hobbing is a well-known environmentally benign process for gears production by eliminating serious pollution and occupational health hazards in the shop floor. However, due to the absence of the cooling and lubrication of cutting oil, it requires quite accurate monitoring and adjustment of the accumulation of thermal energy within the cutting space to reduce the thermal deformation of machine tool. In this paper, an analytical method is proposed to reveal the mechanism of thermal energy accumulation in dry hobbing. And further, a thermal energy balance optimization model is developed to minimize the average temperature of cutting space by optimizing the heat-carrying efficiency of chips, the temperature of compressed air, and the mass flow rate of air filter. The comprehensive learning particle swarm optimization (CLPSO) based solution method is designed to search the optimal solutions of the proposed model. To verify the performance of the proposed thermal energy balance problem, a case study has been conducted and the experimental results showed that the maximum difference of the average temperature of cutting space reduced by 16.3%, and the M-value of hobbed gears was effectively controlled, which demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed approach. A Novel Design Method of High Throughput Blockchain for 6G Networks: Performance Analysis and optimization model

Sharing is undoubtedly one of the most important features of 6G networks, and blockchain can provide an extended trust-as-a-service (TAAS) distributed sharing solution for 6G networks. However, as a special distributed technology system, blockchain naturally needs to face the "impossible triangle " problem: in the case of ensuring security and decentralization, scalability will inevitably become the Achilles heel of the blockchain system. This article will design a high-throughput blockchain system for 6G networks to achieve trusted sharing and efficient scheduling of network infrastructure, assist future networks in integrating an open Internet architecture, and realize the combination of openness and distributed control. We adopt a shard blockchain design and incorporate digital twins and federated learning;formulate an optimization model for maximizing the throughput of the blockchain network by getting the optimal number of shards, also analyzing other factors affecting the throughput such as service distribution;propose a security performance analysis model for the blockchain network to describe the measures taken against the Byzantine attacks on the network. Analysis and simulation results show that the transaction throughput of the proposed method can reach more than 30 times larger than that of a nonsharding scheme. They also show that when one-third of the nodes in the system are attacked, the consensus of the system is hardly affected;even if the number of nodes being attacked at the same time reaches half of the total number of nodes, the probability of the occurrence of failed shards is still less than 10(-4), and the system still has good survivability.

An energy intensity optimization model for production system in iron and steel industry

To optimize iron and steel production for the goal of energy intensity reduction, this paper systematically analyzed the flow characteristics of ferrite-flows and established an energy intensity production optimization model for production system in iron and steel industry. Production optimization model was calculated for a certain iron and steel company under five different ferrite-flows characters and structures. The results indicated that with the same product order, the energy intensity of the five optimized production schemes are decreased from the original scheme by 0.6%, 1.6%, 1.2%, 0.7% and 2.9%;calculated according to the crude steel production of the company in a month (October 2012, 1128 Kilo metric tons), energy saving of 4399 tce (ton coal equivalent), 111,505 tce, 8798 tce, 4963 tce and 20,980 tce, respectively, can be achieved. Through comparative analysis of the productions of various units under different schemes, it is discovered that the production optimization of the Ironmaking stage is the key and that the energy saving margin in optimized production of Steel-Rolling stage is limited. And then the energy saving technologies and measures, which favors production route re-optimizes, should be adopted in actual production process. In addition, the energy intensity reduces by 1.2 kgce/t, 0.4 kgce/t and 0.05 kgce/t while 1% increases of sinter ore grade, scrap and lump ore usage, respectively. (C) 2016 Elsevier Ltd.
