Experimental and optimization modeling of Room-Cured Alkali-Activated Binder Derived from Discarded Limestone Powder

A novel attempt was made in this study to activate discarded limestone powder (DLSP), mostly comprising crystalline CaCO3. The key mix design parameters were varied to obtain superior strength and workability. For this purpose, the Taguchi method was used. The influence of each of the factors used in this study was assessed by conducting the analysis of variance (ANOVA). To further augment the compressive strength (CS) of the developed alkali-activated binder (AAB), marginal quantities of ordinary portland cement (OPC) were incorporated. In addition to monitoring strength development, selected mixes of alkali-activated paste (AAP) were prepared and utilized to examine the characteristics of the binder by means of XRD, SEM, and FTIR. Alkali-activated DLSP gained a maximum strength of more than 6 MPa when cured at room temperature conditions. Pirssonite (CaCO3Na2CO32H2O) phase was the dominant character of the AAB formed. Incorporation of OPC extraordinarily improved the morphology, mineralogy, and CS of AAB using DLSP. There was a more than fivefold increment in the strength when 30% of DLSP was replaced by OPC. Phases including Pirssonite, C-S-H, and C/N-A-S-H were formed during the polymerization of DLSP introducing OPC. It is postulated that DLSP can be utilized in synthesizing a sustainable cementitious binder that would enable mitigation of the carbon footprint associated with OPC manufacturing. The usage of universally available DLSP in the synthesis of cementitious binder could significantly boost mass production and the commercial viability of AAB. Further, such encouraged use of DLSP can also lead to enhanced prospects of upscaling the developed laboratory-scale expertise to the industrial levels.

This paper explores the use of Large Language Models (LLMs) in modeling real-world optimization problems. We concretely define the task of translating natural language descriptions into optimization models (NL2OPT) and provide criteria for classifying optimization problems for the NL2OPT task. Our novel multi-agent modeling framework leverages relations identifier agents and a multi-agent verification mechanism, eliminating the need for solver execution. Additionally, we introduce a straightforward and practical evaluation framework, offering a more effective assessment method compared to traditional execution-based evaluations. We have created a unique dataset tailored for optimization modeling, featuring Problem Specifications as a structured representation of optimization problems. Through comprehensive experiments, our study compares our modeling framework with existing LLM reasoning strategies, highlighting their relative effectiveness in optimization modeling tasks. We also perform ablation studies to explore the effect of different components of our modeling framework. Experimental results demonstrate that our multi-agent framework outperforms many common LLM prompting strategies.

Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) is a special optimization model used to assess and compare the comparative efficiency of organizational units where the presence of multiple inputs and outputs makes comparisons difficult. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the operational efficiency of manufacturing organizations in the context of a developing country and to apply a modified model of DEA for eliminating inefficiencies by imposing realistic limits on input and output factors. Actual data on 55 manufacturing organizations in Jordan were obtained for this purpose. Extensive interviews and discussions were conducted to get details on how the DEA results were accepted by the companies studied and the changes they produced if any. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. In trustworthy service discovery for Mobile Social Networking in Proximity (MSNP), conventional trust computation faces a big challenging issuerelatively high latency. To cope with it, trustworthiness determination strategies were proposed in our previous study, aiming at avoiding trust computation under certain conditions, so as to reduce the latency. These strategies are conceived based on the assumption that data of a user's past experience and current profile could be used, and they are incorporated with a set of thresholds from the analysis result of these data. The settings of these thresholds directly affect service quality and user satisfaction on the MSNP service, which in turn becomes an optimization problem. In this paper, we focus on formulating this optimization problem and demonstrating the effectiveness of our proposed solution by designing a simulation experiment. In detail, we establish mathematical models and adjust parameters. We conduct simulations on MATLAB and analyze the results obtained under several different settings. We further compare our work with related works. The results show that our proposed solution is practically feasible and effective in reducing latency under certain conditions.

Coal-washing wastewater is the residual produced by the coal industry, which may represent a high risk of serious environmental problems worldwide. However, prevailing coal-washing treatment processes are hardly ideal for achieving the goal of solid-liquid separation due to the wastewater's extremely stable physicochemical properties. This research treats the coal-washing wastewater produced by a plant in Northeast China by means of the coagulation-flocculation process. The sedimentation ability of different coagulant choices and flocculant dosages is tested and analyzed through pseudo-first-order reaction kinetics. Scanning transmission electron microscopy is used to account for the settlement mechanism of flocs, which not only explains the characterized effect of coagulants and the flocculant but also demonstrates the advantage of using combined coagulates. Using the three-dimensional response surface method, an optimized treatment condition of 1.20 g m(FeCl3): m(CaO) = 1:3 mixed coagulants + 2.00 mL 0.13% polyacrylamide flocculant is proposed for 100 mL of selected wastewater. Additionally, the relationships between the optimal treatment conditions and the properties of wastewater obtained from X-ray energy-dispersive analysis are determined for future practical optimization needs.

Thermal error optimization modeling and real-time compensation on a CNC turning center

Thermal errors are the largest contributor to the dimensional errors of a workpiece in precision machining. The error compensation technique is an effective way of reducing thermal errors. Accurate modeling of errors is a key part of error compensation. The thermal errors of a machine tool can be treated as the superposition of a series of thermal error modes. In this paper, five key temperature points of a turning center were obtained based on the thermal error mode analysis. A thermal error model based on the five key temperature points was proposed by using genetic algorithm-based back propagation neural network (GA-BPN). The GA-BPN method improves the accuracy and reduces computational cost for the prediction of thermal deformation in the turning center. A thermal error real-time compensation system was developed based on the proposed model. An experiment was carried out to verify the performance of the compensation system. The experimental results show that the diameter error of the workpiece reduced from about 27-10 mu m after implementation of the compensation. (C) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Multilevel optimization modeling for Risk-Averse Stochastic Programming

Coherent risk measures have become a popular tool for incorporating risk aversion into stochastic optimization models. For dynamic models in which uncertainty is resolved at more than one stage, however, using coherent risk measures within a standard single-level optimization framework becomes problematic. To avoid severe time-consistency difficulties, the current state of the art is to employ risk measures of a specific nested form, which unfortunately have some undesirable and somewhat counterintuitive modeling properties. This paper summarizes the potential drawbacks of nested-form risk measure issues and then presents an alternative multilevel optimization modeling approach that enforces a form of time consistency through constraints rather than by restricting the modeler's choice of objective function. This technique leads to models that are time consistent even while using time-inconsistent risk measures and can easily be formulated to be law invariant with respect to the final wealth if so desired. We argue that this approach should be the starting point for all multistage optimization modeling. When used with time-consistent objective functions, we show its multilevel optimization constraints become redundant, and the associated models thus simplify to a more familiar single-objective form. Unfortunately, we also show that our proposed approach leads to NP-hard models, even in the simplest imaginable setting in which it would be needed: three-stage linear problems on a finite probability space, using the standard average value-at-risk and first-order mean-semideviation risk measures. Finally, we show that for a simple but reasonably realistic test application, the kind of models we propose, although drawn from an NP-hard family and certainly more time consuming to solve than those obtained from the nested-objective approach, are readily solvable to global optimality using a standard commercial mixed-integer linear programming solver. The design method of port anti-wave building optimization model based on VR technology is proposed, which can be divided into three-dimensional port anti-wave building body-sensing interaction information reconstruction and digital interaction information processing. The system mainly comprises a port anti-wave building information acquisition module, a port wave-proof building geographic information base model and a 3D image analysis module, The VR virtual reality reconstruction module, the VR program loading module, the human-computer interaction module and the like are constructed by adopting the 3-dimensional solid model of the port anti-wave building optimization model by using the 3DStudio MAX software, According to the self-adaptive virtual simulation design method, the intelligent design and three-dimensional simulation of the port anti-wave building body-sensing interaction are carried out, and the software development design of the port anti-wave building optimization model of the VR virtual simulation is realized under the embedded ARM environment. The simulation results show that the designed system has good port anti-wave building body-sensing interaction capability, and has good application value in the design of the harbor wave-proof building.

Canal irrigated regions often suffer from twin problems of waterlogging and salinity as well as water scarcity in the absence of proper irrigation planning, particularly in developing nations. There is an urgent need to adopt the concept of 'Conjunctive Use' in practice for the sustainable management of land and water resources in canal commands. Considering real-world conditions, this study demonstrates a framework for conjunctive use planning using optimization modeling through a case study in the Upper Damodar River basin of Eastern India. A resource optimization model was developed taking into account spatial, seasonal and climatic variability of water supply, crop irrigation requirements and Dynamic Groundwater Reserve (DGWR) as well as considering DGWR as the available groundwater resource, which are unique in this study. The optimization model was solved for 'Normal' and 'Dry' climatic conditions considering four scenarios that represent optimal conjunctive use plans for four realistic situations. The results of optimization modeling indicated that it is possible to obtain the net annual benefits of Rs. 24818.00 million during 'Normal' years and Rs. 14679.00 million during 'Dry' years due to the efficient allocation of land and existing water supplies to current cropping patterns. If the available DGWR is fully utilized for irrigation along with the existing surface water supply, these net benefits can be increased by 197% during 'Normal' years and 267% during 'Dry' years. Thus, the developed optimal conjunctive use plans are promising and reasonable for significantly increasing farmers' returns even during 'Dry' climatic condition. Functional testing is a crucial process to guarantee the quality of electronic products. In recent years, the cost of functional testing has been rising with the increasing complexity of products, and reducing testing costs is of great significance to the economic efficiency of electronic manufacturing enterprises. Related research has not yet fully considered the issue of the non-uniform distribution of functional testing samples in practical applications, making it challenging to ensure the effectiveness of reducing testing costs. Motivated by the concept of TCP congestion control algorithms, this article presents an enhanced congestion control algorithm tailored for the functional testing process and proposes a method to reduce testing costs accordingly. The proposed method can design dynamically changing testing strategies based on optimal modeling. On the simulation data closely resembles the actual data, the proposed method can significantly reduce the testing costs compared to the pure optimization modeling method.
