In order to overcome the shortcomings of the traditional Canny algorithm, which is easy to lose the edge details of the edge detection, and is prone to a large number of false edges and the threshold needs to be manually determined, an adaptive Canny algorithm based on Dual-domain filtering is proposed. Firstly, the Dual-domain filter is used to instead of the traditional algorithm, which is used to remove the image noise while preserving the image edge information, and more effective than the traditional Canny algorithm;Secondly, the otsu algorithm is used to calculate the high and low threshold of Canny operator in order to achieve the purpose of high automation. The experimental results show that the improved algorithm can detect more effective edges of the image, but also has a strong adaptability.

This paper presents a method of recognition of maritime objects based on their images made by infrared sensors (FLIR forward looking infra-red) using the time series comparison DTW method (DTW-Dynamic Time Warping). The DTW method allows to find the smallest distance between two time series when the run of time one of the series has been deformed (stretched or compressed). In the presented classifier of maritime objects images the DTW method is used to compare the combined horizontal and vertical brightness histograms for a recognized object and pattern objects. The DTW method allows to compare the histograms of objects whose FLIR images were taken at different angles. To determine the silhouette of a maritime object, the otsu segmentation algorithm is used in this paper. The paper describes the otsu threshold method, the method of comparing time series DTW and the method of constructing combined histograms of maritime objects silhouettes. The final part of the paper presents the results of research on the developed method of maritime objects classification using a set of FLIR images registered in the Baltic Sea.

To improve the accuracy and rapidity of pupil location in human-computer interaction, a method based on the improved otsu algorithm is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the image is pre-processed using light compensating and median filtering to calculate the maximum between-class variance of the pixels which exist in the image, and obtain the optimum threshold of the binary image. Finally, the pupil center and radius is got by using ellipse fitting. Experiment results show that the method is quite accurate and fast, which laid a great foundation for the eye tracking.

Detailed information about a building and its surrounding is generally contained in hi-resolution synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data. An approach to extract the information and to identify the building with linear features from a single hi-resolution SAR image has been developed. With the strong radar backscattering and shape feature of a building in SAR image, external markers were derived by an otsu algorithm and a morphology algorithm. Then the minima imposition technique was used to modify the edge-enhanced SAR image coupled with the markers. Finally, the linear building boundaries were obtained using the watershed algorithm. Results of building extract from three types of developed areas were satisfactory.

Sea-sky-line detection in complicated sea-sky background plays an important role in the long-range moving objects detection and the security of sea port. This paper presents a new method to detect the sea-sky-line. In the first step, the original image is transformed into grayscale image and the sea-sky-line region is located by using the textural features gray-level co-occurrence matrix based on texture feature. In the second step, the adaptive segmentation thresholds are obtained by the otsu algorithm, which produces a set of sea-sky-line candidate points. Finally, a simple clustering method is adopted to select appropriate points and transform them by straight line fitting. The results of experiments established on real-world sea-sky images demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed approach.

Health problems of the elderly are more and more serious with the growth of aging population. The accidents like falling down need to be paid more attention especially. Through the analysis of the existing detection methods, a more simple and rapid algorithm about human body fall detection based on the Kinect sensor is proposed in this paper. This algorithm is composed of three parts, which are moving target depth of image acquisition, processing of depth image and identification of target motion behavior. The realization of the detection algorithm is based on the depth map sequence obtained by the Kinect. The data of falling and bending are collected and compared in this experiment. And the otsu algorithm which has anti-noise performance is used to process depth map. It is conducive to the body contour extraction. After extracting the contour, the corrosion operation is used to repair the edge. Then three parameters are extracted, which are the aspect ratio of human external rectangle, the gravity center of human body and the inclination degree. Every frame image outputs aspect ratio and dip angle value. By comparing these values with the threshold, the system judges whether human falls down. The experimental results show that this algorithm is a kind of effective fall detection algorithm.

To minimize an error in rotation angle of image for corresponding polar angle when using the calculated pechan prism table, we processed the image of reference sample to calculate the rotation angle, then create a new table. Experimental works show the validity and practicality of the proposed method.
