In order to damp the load oscillation, a de optimal pid controller is designed for overhead cranecontrol *** by bee colony foraging mechanism, a neighborhood search operation is adopted for differential evolution(de) algorithm to improve the search efficiency. This improved de algorithm is employed to adjust pid controller parameters off-line. Through simulation and comparison under different operation conditions, the de based pid controller exhibits the better performance in overhead crane anti-swing and position control.
