In testing of programmable controllers, manual selection of test cases is still the most common method in practice. This is however tailor-made, time consuming and error-prone. Traditional model-based methods can hardly handle industrial scale systems which usually possess a significant number of states, and signals of sensors and actuators. In this paper, we propose a model-based testing framework that utilizes simplified plant features to reduce the number of test cases, and at the same time also guarantees a full coverage of nominal behavior of system under test. The proposed framework has been illustrated on a case study.

Cleaning-in-Place (CIP) is a crucial part to be automated in batch process industries. In many Process industries after completion of a batch, the equipment cleaning is done by using CIP process. There are many methods used for cleaning the industrial equipments like tanks in food and pharmaceutical industries, such as 3-step, 5-step and 7-step CIP. In any industry, once the batch product is manufactured, the equipments used for manufacturing should be cleaned to have hygienic products. The tanks, pipes are cleaned with different chemical solutions, such as caustic, acids, enzymes etc. To have an economical production, sometimes the solutions are recovered and reused. This paper is primarily addicted with a scene to provide combination of the concepts and application of automation of CIP in the process industries like food, dairy, beverage and pharmaceutical verticals. Proposed work for dairy industries contains CIP defined for cleaning and sterilizing of tanks, valves, and pipes with the help of acid, lye and consequent sterilization with high energy efficiency.

With the continuous development of industrial technology, automatic control has gradually been taken seriously and started to be applied in factory production, which has led to the unprecedented development of automatic control technology to replace people engaged in dangerous and repetitive production work. Since programmable controllers have the advantages of high safety, a low market price, perfect functions, and easy maintenance, they are extremely widely used in modern industry. According to the design requirements, this paper uses the S7 series PLC in the small machine developed and produced by Siemens Germany and focuses on its features and functions. This paper takes the inner bearing spray washing machine of a railroad wagon locomotive as the object, designs the electrical control schematic and PLC control program, which can realize fully automatic control washing and at the same time has the power-down protection function, and can realize automatic-checking conversion operation and manual setting of spray washing time. © 2024 SPIE.

Packaging automated industry is based on PLC control systems. Most of them are IEC 61131-3 PLC compliant. The standard was the first step to introduce Object Oriented Programming (OOP) features in the PLC based automation such as encapsulation in Function Blocks. Nevertheless, other major benefits of OOP such inheritance, or polymorphism weren't defined. On the other hand, the standard was born with the aim of create a unique structure of PLC programs providing a way to exchange programs between several PLC brands. However this goal is far from being achieved. In this paper, a new approach to include these OOP benefits is proposed. Besides, programs developed within this framework can be adapted with minimum effort and maximum reliability to different packaging.

In this paper, aiming at the problems of the key link in the process of automatic transportation of the cabin - cabin grabbing, which has high requirements for safety, the conventional visual guided grabbing method has low accuracy, and the measured motion error cannot be effectively compensated, a visual grabbing safety strategy is proposed, which is verified by experiments combined with the domestic PLC platform. After experimental verification, this method detects position accuracy 0.03mm angle accuracy 0.02°. Meet the detection requirements in the grasping process. It can effectively improve the effectiveness of the automatic grab process of the cabin. © 2022 IET Conference Proceedings. All rights reserved.

Manipulation System for Measuring Heat Flux in Radioactive Melt

This article is focused on introducing of the manipulation system, which is used to insert equipment or measuring probes into the chamber of a cold crucible during experimental induction skull melting. The measuring probe could be, e.g., calorimeter for measuring heat flux from a melt, which is created in the cold crucible by electromagnetic induction. The first part describes the technical parameters of the manipulator and the possibilities of manipulator controlling. The manipulation system is controlled by the algorithm implemented in the programmable logic controller CompactRIO or by mechanical controller called manual pulse generator, which is independent of the programmable logic controller. Different control methods increase the safety of the system. The next part contents basic information about the control algorithm based on LabVIEW software and the user interface of the touch screen. The article also deals with testing the manipulator, which was used in an experiment simulating corium behavior under conditions of the severe accident of a nuclear power plant. The last part describes simulations of electromagnetic field and temperature field in the chamber of the cold crucible, which were confirmed with real measuring. The goal of the simulations was to determine the effect on the manipulation system and calculation of Joule's losses in the calorimeter before immersion into the melt. The most significant heat transfer to the calorimeter was the radiation from a melt, which was also calculated.

Practical test method for the sensitivity of programmable logic controller to voltage sags and short interruptions

Voltage sag and short interruption lead to the tripping of sensitive equipment and cause the economic loss of the industry users. A programmable logic controller (PLC) is essential equipment used in the industrial process. However, there is no detailed understanding of the sensitivity of PLC under voltage sag and short interruption. The response characteristic of PLC under voltage sag is studied. This study proposes a new testing method, called the dichotomy test method (DTM) to do the test. This study builds the testing platform and tests the sensitivity of six PLCs from five famous PLC manufacturers. The testing considers the characteristics of voltage sag, including magnitude, duration, point-on-wave, phase-angle-jump, different supply voltage, slow recovery voltage sag, multiple voltage sags and so on. The tests prove that DTM has the advantage of accuracy, robustness and workload, compared with the traditional test method. The quantitative and qualitative response characteristics of PLC under voltage sag are obtained.

With the rapid development of social technology, the concept of intelligence has appeared in more and more new media, and intelligent products have increasingly entered people's daily life. The public's demand for modern quality of life is also higher and higher. In order to produce more stable and efficient X-ray, this paper invents and designs a single chip microcomputer intelligent management system using PLC. A single chip microcomputer ICS based on PLC is designed. The new high voltage DC switching power supply and high frequency filament power supply technology are applied to the control circuit with PLC as the control core, so that the X-ray machine realizes the control and output design of tube current (kV) and tube current (MA). Through repeated detection and debugging, the intelligent controller designed by experiment can realize the prediction results and specific technical indicators. Through PLC operation, the controller can realize the continuous adjustment of short tube current from zero to 300 kV, small focusing current from zero to 3 Ma and large focusing current from 0 to 10 mA. So as to achieve complete digital intelligent management.

Electricity theft is a notable aspect of power distribution utilities due to advance in the non-technical loss. It results imbalance between power supply and demand. It consequence overload of the distribution network and extraneous tariff invoke on legally connected consumers. The advance metering infrastructure is useful for an energy audit of every distribution transformer due to a communication facility. However, direct hooking on distribution overhead line or tapping from underground cables remains an interminable issue which has to be rigorously decimated. The objective of this study is to present real-time electricity theft detection and prevention scheme (ETDPS) with the available infrastructure in the field. The proposed ETDPS is based on programmable logic control;it identifies the pilferage locations and estimates the power stolen by illegal consumers. The prototype is tested in the laboratory and the results demonstrate that the ETDPS works satisfactorily under diversified operating conditions. The proposed scheme is implemented as a part of their Smart City Pilot Project by Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited, Nagpur (India) and the performance demonstrates its feasibility.
