Light is the fastest medium that data can be transferred through. Potential transfer speeds are 1000 times faster than radio waves can achieve. NASA claims to have had success with transferring data from spacecraft to earth and back using lasers. Space-X plan to use lasers for inter communication in their satellite network and MARS missions. This is the revolution of Li-Fi communication technology. After analysis and study of such technologies, it appears that there were certain imitations to the idea of Light fixture to phone camera data transfer. So, I???m introducing Ambient light sensor approach over camera. The goal of this project is to deliver the working actual pathway for the development of a Li-Fi system that could later be adapted to the manufacture of LED lighting systems and integrated to be used with mainstream smartphone hardware. For this project, an Arduino was the easiest way to implement a PC to output connection. A commercial cool white LED was selected for Li-Fi waves due to the centered and even light spectrum it emits. On receiver side, I used ambient light sensor which is also widely available in all smartphones. Previously, this sensor was not used for Li-Fi communication because of very low sampling rate. So, I???m using sampling rate adjustment property to identify each transmitted signal uniquely. In this project, I???m proposing how to modify frequencies that LED transmits, how to calibrate Ambient light sensor sampling rate and how to handle the environmental noises. So that, we can identify and prove a sensor pathway that will allow the clean and rapid sample rates that we are seeking for Li-Fi communication.

The purpose of this paper is to present a programmable logic controller (PLC) control system that is applied to the main feedwater process of a pressurized water reactor, construct a structure that the alternative system is a hot backup to the operating system between PLC and the original analog instrument control system, overcome the draw backs of TI545 type PLC control module, and implement an advanced digital control algorithm to improve the control performance simultaneously. Successful results are obtained from this scheme. Implementation indicates that the PLC control system improves the performance of both steam generator water levels regulation and disturbance rejection.

O objetivo principal desta dissertação foi a construção de um pêndulo invertido de baixo custo, com partes de uma impressora matricial, para ser utilizado no estudo de sistemas de controle. Após esta construção, foi obtido um modelo matemático linearizado desse sistema. Também, com base em experimento, realizado no laboratório, incluindo a obtenção da resposta em frequência, foram determinadas as funções de transferência do sistema. Em seguida foram projetados controladores, considerando o vetor de estado disponível, utilizando-se técnica de realimentação dos estados. Após a simulação do sistema controlado no software Matlab, esse controlador foi implementado em um CLP e utilizado um software SCADA. Então, foram registrados os resultados experimentais desse sistema de controle no laboratório, os quais apresentaram boa correlação com os resultados obtidos nas simulações. Esse estudo pode ser útil para aplicações didáticas, pois apresenta baixo custo e emprega equipamento CLP e software SCADA, aplicados largamente na indústriaThe main aim of this dissertation was to build a low cost inverted pendulum with parts of matricial printers, for the study of control systems. After that, a linear mathematical modeling of this systems was obtained. Then, based on experiments at the laboratory, incluing the frequency response, the transfer functions of the inverted pendulum were obtained. Considering ther transfer functions and supposing that the state vector is available, a controller was designed based on the pole placement control design method. The designed controller was implemented in a programmable Logic Controller (PLC), using the software SCADA. Software je postaven na architektuře klient-server, přenos dat mezi serverem a klientem je realizován prostřednictvím technologie Windows Communication Foundation integrované v Microsoft .NET Framework od verze 3.0. K realizaci řešení byl použit programovací jazyk C# a knihovny Microsoft .NET Framework, vizualizace dat ve webové aplikaci byla realizována pomocí technologie Microsoft Silverlight.

This paper describes the last mile communication system solutions realized in PLC/RF hybrid technology, which is dedicated to Smart Grid communication subsystems, mainly for Smart Metering and Smart Lighting applications. The use of hybrid technology makes the system more efficient and more secure (still being of low cost, in terms of both implementation and operation). This paper proposes a novel parameter, PDR, to describe the performance of the communications in the last mile network. The communications are realized with the use of the narrowband power line communications technique, the low power wireless communications technique, and the combination of them. The cost analysis for the proposed solution is also done. Theoretical considerations, contained in the paper, are the result of the author's experience in the design, implementation, and operation of the last mile Smart Grid communication systems, realized in the narrowband PLC or 433/868 MHz radio technology. These communication systems were developed for data acquisition and distribution between specific terminals, which are Smart Meters or Smart Lanterns. The aim of this paper is to outline superiorities of the hybrid technology, from which the most important is a low layer protection of the sensitive critical infrastructure, which undoubtedly is a last mile Smart Grid communication network.
