Department of Control Engineering offers virtual education services of Control Engineering on the Web. This article reports about work done in previous stage of education system development on Web. The main aim of education system (Microsoft IIS platform) is merging of such elements as visualization, interactive dialogue, experimentation and simulation. Registration, autentification and users knowledge testing are based on ODBC API to Microsoft Access and Microsoft ASP programming. The structure of training centers and problems of education are described. Control and automation based on newest EDI technologies are discussed.

In this research, a vague controller (VC) is synthesized by using the notion of vague sets, which are a generalization of fuzzy sets and characterized by a truth-membership function and a falsity-membership function. The vague sets follow the basic set operations and logic operations defined for fuzzy sets, and are superior to fuzzy sets in that they could deal with the uncertainty encountered in real-world applications in a move natural way. Depending on the vague sets, the VC is developed as a generalization of fuzzy logic controller (FLC). The design procedures of the VC, which allow an arbitrary number of input variables, and each variable could have a distinct number of linguistic values, are outlined in this paper. In order to compensate the effort in constructing two series of membership functions for vague sets and to ease the difficulties in designing VCs, a new means of designating membership functions for VCs is also presented in this article. This method constructs a set of membership functions systematically by using only two parameters: number of linguistic values of a linguistic variable and shrinking factor. The membership functions generated by this method, shrinking-span membership functions (SSMFs), have different spans over the universe of discourse and, therefore, ave more rational and more practical from the human expert's point of view.

New results and innovative procedures are presented to design nonlinear robust controllers for a class of nonlinear time-varying systems with uncertain parameters and control constraints. The straightforward techniques for designing the robust bounded controllers are developed by utilizing the theoretical foundations of the Hamilton-Jacobi theory and Lyapunov's method. The major contribution is the development of feasible and computationally efficient algorithms to stabilize uncertain nonlinear systems. Various aspects of recent developments concerning robust control and nonlinear optimization are discussed and further researched. Necessary and sufficient conditions for optimality and robust stability are studied. By applying robust design, this paper allows one to solve practical problems in nonlinear robust control and optimization by using nonlinear models with parameter variations and input bounds. To overcome the gap between the theory and its application, two examples are thoroughly studied. Robust control of the third-order chaotic attractor with uncertain parameters is performed to illustrate the efficiency of the proposed procedures. In addition, the goal of this article is to demonstrate the feasibility of the developed concept for multivariable flight control, and a bounded controller is designed for the F-18 fighter. For the replacement of old sequential controllers for plants to modern programmable controllers(PCs), we have developed the sequential control programs automatic inductive regeneration method (SPAIR) system from input-output signals and action specifications of a target controller. However, this method cannot regenerate the logic included in the interior coils. Therefore, we propose an efficient inference method of interior coils logic for SPAIR using Logic Part Attaching Algorithm. In this method, the target logic of the interior coil is acquired by the selective attachment of logic parts. We confirmed the effectiveness through the application of this method to some original controllers including interior logics.

The high voltage and electromagnetic field environment poses a big challenge to a control system for plasma immersion ion implantation (PIII). The automation process must be immune to electric field interference produced by the high voltage power supply, modulator, radio-frequency or microwave plasma generator, MEVVA plasma sources, and so oil. We have recently designed and installed a distributed control system, PIIIDCS, to automate the operation of our PIII facility. programmable logic controllers are used as the held control stations because of their good anti-interference ability and good real time response. A DH-485 network is used as the communication link between the field controllers and the management station in order to improve the robustness and reliability of the system. The newly developed interface is designed to work in a graphic mode in Microsoft Windows 95. Test runs have shown that the system is reliable, flexible, and easy to operate. The development of this novel control system will expedite the development of commercial PIII instrumentation. (C) 1998 American Institute of Physics.

We propose that the domain of a Domain-Specific Language (DSL) can be characterised by: 1. the class of environments in which systems developed in the language are expected to operate;and 2. the class of properties which such systems are expected to possess. The design of DSLs should therefore include the development of a proof system that eases the task of proving the properties in the class identified for the anticipated operating environments. We develop these ideas in the context of industrial computing systems by presenting a semantics and proof system for a language based on IEC 1131-3, the international standard programming language for programmable controllers. Of particular significance in this example is the use of a diagrammatic representation and the development of a proof system for a class of invariance properties that requires only local knowledge of the structure of diagrams.

The problem of validating the specification of the control software of a simplified chemical reactor, expressed in the Sequential Function Chart(SFC) notation, is addressed in this work. Through this case study it is demonstrated a way of converting the SFC description to that of a Hybrid Automata System(HAS) and validating properties of the described system by integrating already available results in the theol)' of Hybrid Automata. Then, by synchronizing this HAS description with a HAS model of the controlled process and applying an algorithmic solution to the reachability problem of the combined HAS descriptions, it becomes possible to infer the satisfaction of the system properties that the equivalent SFC specifies.
