Optimal design of fractional-order PID controllers for multi- input multi- output (variable air volume) air-conditioning system using particle swarm optimization

Nowadays, since variable air volume (VAV) systems are more economical than other alternative systems, the building industry has widely adopted them in the building engineering to maintain the cooling and heating demands. In this article a multivariable decoupling fractional-order PID (FOPID) ((PID mu)-D-lambda) controller has been designed for a VAV system. We present a method for optimum tuning of practical PIlDm controllers for VAV system by using particle swarm optimization (pso) algorithm. By comparing this technique with the other methods, both its influence and its efficiency are illustrated. Simulations and comparisons with PID controller demonstrate that the proposed pso-(PID mu)-D-lambda controller can provide good control performance with respect to reference input.

Reliability-based design optimization under mixture of random, interval and convex uncertainties

In view of the significant influences of multi-source uncertainties on structural safety, which generally exist in practical engineering (such as the dispersion of material, the uncertainty of external load and the error of processing technology), more academic research and engineering applications had paid attention to uncertainty in recent years. However, due to the complexity of the structural problems, there may be multiple uncertain parameters. Traditional methods of optimal design by single-source uncertainty model, particularly the one derived from probability theory, may no longer be feasible. This paper investigates a new formulation and numerical solution of reliability-based design optimization (RBDO) of structures exhibiting random and uncertain-but-bounded (interval and convex) mixed uncertainties. Combined with the non-probabilistic set-theory convex model and the classical probabilistic approach, the mathematical definition of hybrid reliability is firstly presented for a quantified measure of the safety margin. The reliability-based optimization incorporating such mixed reliability constraints is then formulated. The pso algorithm is employed to improve the convergence and the stability in seeking the optimal global solution. Additionally, by introducing the general concept of the safety factor, the compatibility between the proposed hybrid RBDO technique and the safety factor-based model is further discussed. By virtue of the above two methods, two numerical examples of typical components (the cantilever structure and the truss structure) as well as one complex engineering example (the hypersonic wing structure) are performed, subjected to the strength or stiffness criteria. The accuracy and effectiveness of the present method are then demonstrated.

In fed-batch culture of glycerol to 1,3-propanediol by Klebsiella pneumoniae, glycerol and alkali are fed in batches into the bioreactor to provide sufficient nutrition and maintain a suitable environment for cells growth. In this paper, taking the feeding process as a state-dependent impulses process, a nonlinear state-dependent impulsive system is proposed to formulate the fed-batch process. Some important properties of the solution to the system are discussed, i.e., the existence, uniqueness and regularity of solution to the system and continuous dependence of the solution on initial value and parameters. Regarding the errors between the experimental results and calculated values as the performance index, a parameter identification model is presented. The identifiability of the parameter identification model is also proved. Finally, an improved particle swarm optimization (pso) algorithm is constructed to seek the optimal parameters. Numerical results show that the nonlinear state-dependent impulsive system can be used to describe the fed-batch culture reasonably. (C) 2015 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

An automated focusing method for a parallel micro-manipulator alignment

In this work, particle swarm optimization (pso) algorithm is employed to align spot array and judging image sharpness with auto-focusing (AF) image evaluation function. To satisfy the requirement of optical alignment system, a high precision manipulator has to be developed. Applied parallel manipulator that consists of four 2-degree of freedom (DOF) decoupled actuator gives chances to provide 6-DOF independence motion, and has strength in high accuracy. This paper covers the follows: Firstly, motivation of this development for the digital mirror device (DMD) based maskless lithography system to introduce spot array method in maskless digital exposure process. Secondly, in order to precisely control moving platform, applying a redundant parallel micro-manipulator. Thirdly, proposing a suitable error model of the system and applying the pso and Z axis auto-focusing algorithm to align spot array concerning position correction. Finally, we designed experiment which is applied a vision sensor and alignment unit to verify proposed positioning algorithm. Experimental result will be shown that proposed can solve the alignment problem by reducing the position error of the system.

Research on data reconciliation based on generalized T distribution with historical data

In the most of previous data reconciliation(DR) studies, process data were conventionally characterized by normal Gaussian distribution, so the optimality/validity of DR estimator is implicitly based on a main assumption that errors follow normal Gaussian distribution. When this assumption is not satisfied, conventional data reconciliation approaches will become unavailable. However, normal distribution usually does not exist in real chemical engineering practice, as it is hard to ensure the normality even for high-quality measurements. So it is necessary to propose a new DR method which can accommodate more variety of measurement error distribution. In this paper, generalized T distribution is applied to accommodate measurement error distribution, meanwhile, historical data is introduced to estimate the objective function parameters by using Particle Swarm Optimization (pso) algorithm. A novel robust data reconciliation method is proposed based on GT distribution and historical data, at the same time, its robustness characteristics are investigated. The new method is demonstrated on a steam-metering system for a methanol synthesis unit. Based on the comparison with other DR methods, the novel robust DR method can effectively improve the reliability of reconciled data even when errors do not follow normal distribution. A New Meta-Heuristic Optimization algorithm Inspired by FIFA World Cup Competitions: Theory and Its Application in PID Designing for AVR System

This paper presents a new optimization algorithm based on human society's intelligent contests. FIFA World Cup is an international association football competition competed by the senior men's national teams. This contest is one of the most significant competitions among the humans in which people/teams try hard to overcome the others to earn the victory. In this competition there is only one winner which has the best position rather than the others. This paper introduces a new technique for optimization of mathematic functions based on FIFA World Cup competitions. The main difficulty of the optimization problems is that each type of them can be interpreted in a specific manner. World Cup Optimization (WCO) algorithm has a number of parameters to solve any type of problems due to defined parameters. For analyzing the system performance, it is applied on some benchmark functions. It is also applied on an optimal control problem as a practical case study to find the optimal parameters of PID controller with considering to the nominal operating points , changes of the AVR system. The main objective of the proposed system is to minimize the steady-state error and also to improve the transient response of the AVR system by optimal PID controller. Optimal values of the PID controller which are achieved by WCO algorithm are then compared with particle swarm optimization and imperialist competitive algorithm in different situations. Finally for illustrating the system capability against the disturbance, it is applied on a generator with disturbance on it and the results are compared by the other algorithms. The simulation results show the excellence of WCO algorithm performance into the nature base and other competitive algorithms.

Emergency material collecting model of sudden disasters with fuzzy collecting time

The paper looked the Hub-and-Spoke emergency material collecting network with double level Multi hub as the research target to reality the decision optimization of emergency material collecting under the sudden disaster. The paper set the double goals for the collecting time and costs with the major constraint conditions of the fuzzy collecting time and the system time according to the primary characters of disasters, and the paper constructed the Multi-hub, double goals of programming model with some constraint conditions, including the capacity limited of each hub spot, the total time of the collecting system and the ownership of each demand point. The author used the improved Particle Swarm Optimization (pso) algorithm to solve the model, which can effectively reality the optimal goals, including the node-line distribution between the emergency material response points and each hub center, the emergency material quantity and the range of each hub center. Finally, the case showed that the improved pso is superior to the standard pso. The improved pso has a clear advantage, such as a perfect iteration speed, a shorten collecting time and small collecting costs, etc. So the model can make a decision to the emergency material collecting of sudden disaster. Task scheduling is one of the most challenging aspects in cloud computing nowadays, which plays an important role to improve the overall performance and services of the cloud such as response time, cost, makespan, throughput etc. Mostly a non-optimal task scheduling algorithm can be a key tool in over utilization or under utilization of cloud resources. In order to solve these problems, this paper proposes a novel architecture to schedule the tasks in cloud computing on the basis of a new Dynamic Dispatch Queues algorithm (DDQA) and Particle Swarm Optimization (pso) algorithm. The proposed algorithm DDQA-pso gives full consideration to the dynamic characteristics of the cloud computing environment. The experimental results based on CloudSim simulator show that the proposed architecture can effectively achieve good performance, load balancing, and improve the resource utilization.

An optimized PID controller designed for piezoelectric actuator based on classical Bouc-Wen(BW) hysteresis model is proposed in this paper. Generally, hysteresis nonlinearity existing in the smart materials such as piezoelectric actuators can cause undesirable inaccuracy. In this paper, the classical BW hysteresis model is presented and parameters identification via the particle swarm optimization (pso) approach for piezoelectric actuator is performed. For the purpose of obtaining a better tracking performance, the pso method is adopted again to search for each parameter. The testing results validate that the optimized PID controller can enhance the PZT's tracking accuracy.

A hierarchical peer-to-peer（P2P）model and a data fusion method for network security situation awareness system are proposed to improve the efficiency of distributed security behavior monitoring *** single point failure of data analysis nodes is avoided by this P2P model,in which a greedy data forwarding method based on node priority and link delay is devised to promote the efficiency of data analysis *** the data fusion method based on repulsive theory-Dumpster/Shafer（psoRT-DS）is used to deal with the challenge of multi-source alarm *** data fusion method debases the false alarm *** with improved Dumpster/Shafer（DS）theoretical method based on particle swarm optimization（pso）and classical DS evidence theoretical method,the proposed model reduces false alarm rate by 3%and 7%,respectively,whereas their detection rate increases by 4%and 16%,respectively.
