Distributed generation (DG) is a distributed generator that employs on the distribution system. The aims of DG in distribution system are to improve the voltage profile, to increase spare capacity, and to reduce the power losses. DG installation on the distribution system needs consideration of optimal capacity and optimal placement. If DG has placed in incorrect location so it can damage and interference such as voltage flicker, phase disorder to ground, fault current and fault current magnitude. So this would be differ with DG expected. Therefore it needs a right placement and allocation of power capacity (sizing) to optimize DG in which use a metaheuristic optimization algorithm to solve the problem. The metaheuristic optimization algorithm is proposed to use particle swarm optimization (pso) algorithm for reducing power losses in distribution system and this study used feeder 7 Bantul in substation to coastal areas Samas that is the end of distribution system. The result showed that pso succeeded to reduce losses.

This paper focuses on using particle swarm optimization (pso) algorithm to estimate and find the optimal parameters of the compression model of bicomponent stents composed of poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PGLA) and poly(glycolic acid) (PGA). Generalization model was get through five cross-validation of the experimental data obtained from tests. The experimental data and simulated data fit well, proving that the model could closely reflect the processing of compression mechanical properties of the ureteral stents. Based on the generalization model, numerical simulation method was used to analysis the influence between braiding angle and mechanical properties of the bicomponent stents qualitatively.

Remote sensing image segmentation is a very important process in the remote sensing information extraction area. In order to avoid disadvantages of the current algorithms, this paper proposed a new algorithm combined pso and ISODATA. The hybrid pso-ISODATA algorithm first changes the color space of the images. Then, the initial cluster number is determined by the combined algorithm, and finally, the automatic segmentation of remote sensing images is achieved through multiple iterations. Many segmentation experiments on different spatial resolution remote sensing images using the proposed methods in this paper, we also compared the method to the current existing methods such as K-means, pso, ISODATA, and pso-K-means methods. The results show that the hybrid pso-ISODATA algorithm can determine the initial cluster number adaptively, avoid the local optima of K-means and ISODATA algorithms, increase the searching capability of pso, and the segmentation results are much more close to the actual situation.

external factors such as technology, economy and policy have great influence on power demand. The purpose of this paper is to ensure power demand forecast still has time-effectiveness when the external environment change greatly, by quantifying the consideration of external environment factors;at the same time, to quantitatively study the influence that different external environmental factors put on power demand through scenario analysis. Firstly, three single forecasting models are selected, and the weight of the individual model in the combination model is determined by the improved pso algorithm and thus the basic forecasting result is obtained. After that, three external factors are quantitatively presented as correction coefficients. Finally, a case study based on the power demand data of Tianjin is carried out. It turns out that the model presented in this paper has reached the advanced level of the same kind of models.

Coordinated design of the power system stabilizer (PSS) and static synchronous compensator controller parameters (STATCOM) using artificial bee colony algorithm (ABC) to improve power system stability as an optimizations problem has been proposed in this study. ABC algorithm is a collective intel-igence based on optimization algorithm inspired by the feeding behavior of bees in finding food. Rapid convergence and high precision are the capabilities of this algorithm which in this study to demonstrate its effectiveness and robustness, a two zone - four machines system is used and analyzed through non-linear simulation of time-domain and the results are compared with particle swarm optimization (pso) algorithm. The optimization after a large turbulence shows that the coordinated design of the STATCOM and PSS controllers' parameters using the ABC algorithm considerably improves the system stability together with rapid damping of the system fluctuations as compared to the state without optimization. On the other hand, the optimization results using the ABC algorithm shows the superiority of this method over the pso algorithm.

There are some defects in the traditional distribution network like high power loss, unbalanced power flow and vary kinds of negative effects brought by the integration of distributed generators. To overcome these deficiencies, based on power electronical devices, a device called power exchange node that can actively control power flow in the distribution network is proposed. Its topology, working principle as well as its operation mode in the distribution network are preliminarily discussed. Matlab/Simulink is used to establish the model of the proposed power exchange node to verify its fast and stable ability of power exchange. Finally, pso algorithm is used in an example of a distribution network containing a power exchange node to verify its ability of power loss reduction.

Nowadays automation is a trend of container terminals all over the world. Although not applied in current automated container terminals, storage allocation is indispensable in conventional container terminals, and promising for automated container terminals in future. This paper seeks into the storage allocation problem in automated container terminals and proposed a two level structure for the problem. A mixed integer programming model is built for the upper level, and a modified Particle Swarm Optimization (pso) algorithm is applied to solve the model. The applicable conditions of the model is investigated by numerical experiments, so as the performance of the algorithm in different problem scales. It is left to future research the lower level of the problem and the potential benefit of storage allocation to automated container terminals.

This paper presents an optimization formulation for reliability-based optimal design and operation of a hydraulically coupled cascade hydropower reservoirs system, where the upstream power plant's tailwater is affected by the downstream reservoir's water level. The problem is formulated as a mixed integer nonlinear program (MINLP) with the objective function of maximization of the system's firm energy production while controlling the reliability level of hydroenergy production. Particle swarm optimization (pso) is used as the optimization algorithm to solve the MINLP. The performance of the proposed methodology is tested through its application in the Karoon2-Karoon3 cascade reservoirs system in Iran as a real-world case study. Karoon3 Dam has already been constructed, whereas Karoon2 hydropower system is being designed. The results are used for capacity optimization of the Karoon2's reservoir and powerplant as well as optimal operation of the whole cascade system.

A Measurement-Based Approach for Designing Fixed-Order Controllers for Unknown Closed-Loop Architecture

This paper presents a new technique to design fixed-structure controllers for linear unknown systems using a set of measurements. In model-based approaches, the measured data are used to identify a model of the plant for which a suitable controller can be designed. Due to the fact that real processes cannot be described perfectly by mathematical models, designing controllers using such models to guarantee some desired closed-loop performance is a challenging task. Hence, a possible alternative to model-based methods is to directly utilize the measured data in the design process. We propose an approach to designing structured controllers using a set of closed-loop frequency-domain data. The principle of such an approach is based on computing the parameters of a fixed-order controller for which the closed-loop frequency response fits a desired frequency response that describes some desired performance indices. This problem is formulated as an error minimization problem, which can be solved to find suitable values of the controller parameters. The main feature of the proposed control methodology is that it can be applied to stable and unstable plants. Additionally, the design process depends on a pre-selected controller structure, which allows for the selection of low-order controllers. An application of the proposed method to a DC servomotor system is presented to experimentally validate and demonstrate its efficacy.

Development of Hybrid Models for Forecasting Time-Series Data Using Nonlinear SVR Enhanced by pso

Real-world time-series are rarely purely linear or nonlinear and often contain both these patterns. Therefore, in this article, we have developed four hybrid models by combining linear seasonal autoregressive integrated moving average (SARIMA) and nonlinear support vector regression (NLSVR) models for time-series forecasting. Further, particle swarm optimization (pso), which is a very efficient population-based global stochastic optimization technique, is employed to estimate the hyperparameters of resultant models. A relevant computer program is written in MATLAB function (m file). The SAS and MATLAB software packages are used for carrying out data analysis. Subsequently, as an illustration, the models are applied to all-India monthly marine products export time-series data. Superiority of hybrid models over individual SARIMA and NLSVR models is demonstrated for the data under consideration using root mean square error (RMSE) and mean absolute error (MAE) criteria.
