With the advent of IP over IEEE 1394 as a network technology, a new contender for a low cost next-generation cluster interconnect is on the horizon. In this paper, we benchmark IEEE 1394 and compare it to other cluster interconnects, namely Fast Ethernet, and Gigabit Ethernet. For a meaningful comparison, benchmark experiments are carried out at three levels: TCP/IP networking and MPI parallel programming, parallel application benchmarks. Using high-end PCs (Pentium IV 800 MHz) and standard system software (Linux and MPICH), our results show that IEEE 1394 is a viable alternative.

We define a metric space to measure the contributions of individual programmers to a software development project. It allows us to measure the distance between the contributions of two different programmers as well as the absolute contribution of each individual programmer. Our metric is based on an action function that provides a picture of how one programmer's approach differs from another at each instance of time during the project. We apply our metric to data we collected from students taking a course in parallel programming. We display the pictures for two students who showed approximately equal contributions but who followed very different paths through the course. Copyright 2005 ACM.

Gliding is a useful method to extend the range of rocket. Contrasted to base bleed, it has many advantages such as higher efficiency and adapt to middle guidance technology. Shooting angle, glide starting time, glide period and gliding angle are the main factors for the range. The gliding angle is varied to time, it can be described as the addition of several simple functions. The paper use random searching method to solve this problem. To solve the problem more quickly, the parallel programming techniques and parallel computers are used. The model of gliding trajectory, parallel programming algorithm and solution are list in the paper. It is shown that range can extend about 100 percentage, the algorithm converge rapidly calculation speed is proportional to the parallel computers used.
