We propose a token-based blockchain system that streamlines abstractions into a universal token structure. In the proposed system, each token has an identity that enables the implementation of specific rollbacks and governance that make 51% attacks unprofitable. Because the token-based bookkeeping method only verifies and updates the ownership within each transaction, the proposed system supports parallel expansion and cross-chain transactions without limit. The flexible authority management mechanism of the proposed system is regulatory-friendly, as the intensity of supervision and governance can be adapted to accommodate different application scenarios.

Most machine vision systems for bolt inspection are implemented on PC-based platforms for an embedded platform have limited computation performance. In order to implement a bolt inspection machine vision system on an embedded platform with advantages of high power-efficiency and lower cost as well as improved computation power, this paper proposes accelerating bolt inspection algorithms on an SoC of Embedded CPU and FPGA using HardwareSoftware codesign methods. First, image processing algorithms for bolt defect detection are designed and implemented on an embedded CPU (ARM Cortex-A53). Then, the computation load of each algorithms is analyzed to find key functions responsible for CPU bottleneck. These heavy loaded functions are identified as morphology, threshold, and center-finding, which are then accelerated using parallel processing on an FPGA. The proposed bolt machine vison algorithms of combining processing software (embedded CPU) and programmable logic (FPGA) were implemented on an SoC platform (Xilinx ZCU-104). Experiments conducted on images of normal and defected bolts showed that the proposed system could accelerate calculation speeds by up to 18.9 times, and the overall system by 1.3 times, compared to the software-only embedded CPU platform.

Improved neural dynamics for online Sylvester equations solving

A novel implicit dynamic system together with its electronic implementation is firstly proposed and investigated for online solution of Sylvester equations. In view of the success of recently-proposed Zhang implicit dynamics, our proposed model is also designed in the implicit-dynamical fashion. Compared to the existing neural dynamics, i.e., conventional gradient explicit dynamics and Zhang implicit dynamics, our implicit dynamic system can achieve superior global exponential convergence performance. Computer simulation results demonstrate theoretical analysis of our proposed dynamic model for real-time solution of Sylvester equations. (C) 2016 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Sparse representation based image fusion has been widely studied recently. However, it's not popular in some fields for the high time complexity. In this paper, a new image fusion method based on group sparse representation is proposed to overcome this problem. The K-SVD method is utilized to get the sparse representation of the source images. Therefore, it is necessary to find the best size of the group according to its property about time consuming. And there is no need to sparse all the patches once but to sparse some groups simultaneously. Because every group image vectors sparse representation is unique from the others, using the parallel-processing strategy can reduce the time badly. Besides, all dictionaries are learned from local source image vectors, so the quality of the results fused by the group sparse representation method will be better than those fused by the normal sparse representation methods. Compared with four types of state-of-the-art algorithms, the proposed method has the excellent fusion performance in experiments.

An OpenCL Framework for Fuzzy Associative Classification and its Application to Disease Prediction

Recently, the broad availability of online and soft real-time data has been attracting corporations and researchers towards data analytics. Though newer and faster algorithms are developed, as the available dataset sizes increase exponentially, computational processing has been falling behind. The trend on computational resources is mostly towards multiple cores and parallel processing, while the CPU clock speed improvements are slowing down. An important computational resource is the Graphics processing Unit with multiple-cores, surpassing 2,000 processing elements in one processing unit and operating at almost 5 teraflops capability, such as the recently introduced GeForce GTX Titan. In this study, an Open Computing Language parallel processing framework for fuzzy associative classification is described. The hybrid CPU-GPU implementation is developed and employed for prediction of infectious disease outbreaks, specifically Influenza, using environmental and disease data readily available online. A comparison of the implemented performance with respect to another in-house developed Fuzzy Association Rule Mining operator, FARM, and the performances on four distinct parallel processing environments, specifically a four processor, 64 threads capable, Opteron server; a two processor, 24 threads capable, Xeon server; a GeForce GTX 680 GPU card; and a Radeon HD 7950 GPU card, is presented. The advantages and disadvantages of the OpenCL implementation on parallel processors are discussed.

Since its designation in 1896 as a putative olfactory structure, the olfactory tubercle has received little attention in terms of elucidating its role in the processing and perception of odors. Instead, research on the olfactory tubercle has mostly focused on its relationship with the reward system. Here we provide a comprehensive review of research on the olfactory tubercle-with an emphasis on the likely role of this region in olfactory processing and its contributions to perception. Further, we propose several testable hypotheses regarding the likely involvement of the olfactory tubercle in both basic (odor detection, discrimination, parallel processing of olfactory information) and higher-order (social odor processing, hedonics, multi-modal integration) functions. Together, the information within this review highlights an understudied yet potentially critical component in central odor processing. (C) 2010 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Application-specific data path for highly efficient computation of multistandard video codecs

A novel mechanism that flexibly adapts data flows and configures computational units is proposed to establish an application-specific data-path in the digital signal processor (DSP) that can efficiently perform multistandard video codecs. Based on this mechanism, the proposed application-specific data path, using the very long instruction word (VLIW) architecture with eight computational units of five arithmetic logic units (ALUs), one multiplier and two load/store units, is designed to perform five adaptive operations according to the characteristics of the low-level functions of MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and H.264/AVC video codecs. Using these adaptive operations, the proposed application-specific data path reduces the number of clock cycles required by the TI TMS320C64x data path to perform the low-level functions of the MPEG-2 video encoder and the H.264/AVC video decoder by 23.10% and 28.43%, respectively, for 30 352 x 288-pixel Foreman frames. Additionally, considering the operating frequency, the proposed application-specific data path reduces the computation time required by the TI TMS320C64x data path to realize the abovementioned encoder and decoder by 19.86% and 25.41%, respectively. Based on the TSMC 0.18-mu m CMOS cell library, the proposed application-specific data path is implemented, and exhibits the highest ratio of computational power to hardware cost among all of the data paths associated with the conventional DSPs in implementing the low-level functions of video codecs.

Modeling network latency and parallel processing in distributed database design

The design of responsive distributed database systems is a key concern for information systems managers. In high bandwidth networks latency and local processing are the most significant factors in query and update response time. parallel processing can be used to minimize their effects, particularly if it is considered at design time. It is the judicious replication and placement of data within a network that enable parallelism to be effectively used. However, latency and parallel processing have largely been ignored in previous distributed database design approaches. We present a comprehensive approach to distributed database design that develops efficient combinations of data allocation and query processing strategies that take full advantage of parallelism. We use a genetic algorithm to enable the simultaneous optimization of data allocation and query processing strategies. We demonstrate that ignoring the effects of latency and parallelism at design time can result in the selection of unresponsive distributed database designs.

A parallel-processing program for system-diagnostic purposes was developed for a transputer-based readout system of a silicon vertex detector (SVD). The data-acquisition (DAQ) system for SVD was constructed as a part of research and development work for the BELLE [name of a detector for an asymmetric collider experiment at High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK)] experiment consisting of data scanners (DS), slave memory modules (SMM) and direct memory access master modules (DMM). The DS, SMM and DMM have a transputer as a core processor. Each transputer was linked by a point-to-point connection with transputer serial interfaces (Inmos-link). The DAQ system was equipped with a transputer network system with the Inmos-links. The diagnostic program has the capability to detect malfunctioning readout components. To minimize the processing time during an experiment, the program runs in parallel on each transputer. For this purpose, the program was written using the programming language, occam. With the benefits of its distributed system architecture and without the need for any operating system, the program is compact with high modularity. In this paper, we report the system architecture of this diagnostic program.
