optimization of support vector machine parameters in modeling of Iju deposit mineralization and alteration zones using particle swarm optimization algorithm and grid search method

The support vector classifier (SVC) is one of the most powerful machine learning algorithms. This algorithm has been accepted as an effective method in three-dimensional geological modeling. Although the model selection has a great impact on the performance of SVC algorithm, most of mining studies have neglected it and used the grid search method. Therefore, in this study, a new approach is proposed for improving the selection of SVC models. This approach uses particle swarm optimization (PSO) to determine the important parameters of SCV such as penalty and kernel parameters. The proposed approach was applied in the modeling process of the Iju porphyry copper deposit to delineate alteration and mineralization zones. The optimal penalty and kernel parameters were found to be 2(7.2) and 2(-4.75) for alteration zone, and 2(2.72) and 2(-6.23) for mineralization zone, respectively. With 97.4% and 97.01% rates of accuracy for mineralization and alteration zones, the PSO results showed reasonable performance in classification. The proposed approach had better accuracy than grid search method. Therefore, because of its better performance, the geological models were developed using the PSO method to be used as a basis for future resource evaluation.

Dividing wall columns (DWCs) can effectively improve the thermodynamic efficiency of traditional distillation columns. However, DWCs have intricate structures and strong internal interactions. Numerous structural and operational variables are interrelated. This work presents an improved cellular particle swarm optimization based on the online Kriging model (KCPSO) algorithm, and applies it to the optimization of DWC with the objective of minimizing the total annual cost. The algorithm uses the information of particle swarm search to act on the online Kriging model, and reacts on the particle search through the information of the online Kriging model. Calculations demonstrate that the KCPSO algorithm is superior to standard particle swarm optimization (PSO) and cellular PSO (CPSO) algorithms due to its higher quality of iteration. The KCPSO algorithm can effectively overcome the difficulty of early convergence of the CPSO algorithm and the problem that the PSO algorithm is prone to falling into local optimal solutions.

A particle swarm optimization algorithm Based on Time-Space Weight for Helicopter Maritime Search and Rescue Decision-Making

One of the important problems to be solved in maritime search and rescue (MSAR) is decision-making, and the premise of it is determining the mission area for search and rescue unit. To solve the problem that classical cellular iterative search (CIS) algorithm is easy to fall into local optimal solution when determining the mission area, the particle swarm optimization algorithm based on time-space weight (TS-PSO) is proposed in this paper. This algorithm summarizes the optimization objectives and constraint conditions of the MSAR mission area planning according to search theory, carries out the parametric modeling of mission area legitimately and obtains the global optimal solution by continuous exploration in the parameter definition domain. On this basis, by analyzing the time-space weight of drift prediction data, the optimization results are further improved. Finally, through the case simulation analysis, it can be seen that the TS-PSO algorithm can effectively make up for the deficiency of the CIS algorithm and further improve the success probability of optimal MSAR mission area.

In order to improve the fabrication efficiency and performance of an ultrasonic transducer (UT), a particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm-based design method was established and combined with an electrically equivalent circuit model. The relationship between the design and performance parameters of the UT is described by an electrically equivalent circuit model. Optimality criteria were established according to the desired performance;then, the design parameters were iteratively optimized using a PSO algorithm. The Pb(ZrxTi1-x)O-3(PZT) ceramic UT was designed by the proposed method to verify its effectiveness. A center frequency of 6 MHz and a bandwidth of -6 dB (70%) were the desired performance characteristics. The optimized thicknesses of the piezoelectric and matching layers were 255 mu m and 102 mu m. The experimental results agree with those determined by the equivalent circuit model, and the center frequency and -6 dB bandwidth of the fabricated UT were 6.3 MHz and 68.25%, respectively, which verifies the effectiveness of the developed optimization design method.

A precise ultra-wideband ranging method using pre-corrected strategy and particle swarm optimization algorithm

In order to improve the ultra-wideband (UWB) ranging accuracy, a precise UWB ranging method is developed using pre-corrected strategy and particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. In the pre-corrected strategy, the antenna delay function is established to correct the antenna parameters. In addition, the parameters of Kalman filter function are optimized by PSO algorithm to further improve the UWB ranging accuracy. The experimental results show that the maximum and average errors of the developed method are 7.45 and 3.82 cm, which are much smaller than those of the traditional ranging method (18 and 9.75 cm). Therefore, the developed UWB ranging method can be used in the precise ranging of electric devices.

Improved particle swarm optimization algorithm based novel encoding and decoding schemes for flexible job shop scheduling problem

The flexible job shop scheduling problem (FJSP) is a typical scheduling problem in practical production and has been proven to be a NP-hard problem. The study of FJSP is important to remarkably direct actual manufacturing processes. The paper proposes an improved particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm for solving FJSP and obtains beneficial solutions by improvement on encoding/decoding scheme, communication mechanism between particles, and alternate rules of candidate machines of operations. The innovation of encoding/decoding scheme proposes a novel designed chain encoding scheme and a corresponding effective decoding scheme. The chain-based encoding scheme can reasonably convert FJSP to an appropriate operation linked list and the novel designed decoding scheme owns the capacity of further explorering the solution space. The improvement of traditional PSO focuses on the innovation of information communication between particles, besides the modification of algorithm architecture. The amelioration of rules on operated machine selection is carried out based on the critical path of operations research (OR). It promotes algorithm efficiency by only alternating the candidate machines of operations on the critical path. In addition, much parameters tuning work is involved in a series of experiments. The study proposes some tuning schemes of parameters with exact mathematical methods, and these schemes can effectively help find more appropriate parameters. The final experiment results prove that the improved PSO exhibits remarkable ability to solve FJSP. (C) 2020 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Optical watermark scheme based on singular value decomposition ghost imaging and particle swarm optimization algorithm

An optical image watermarking algorithm, based on singular value decomposition (SVD) ghost imaging and multiple transforms, is designed. The watermark image is first encrypted by applying an SVD ghost imaging system, then the encrypted watermark is embedded into the cover image with the help of multiple transforms, including lifting wavelet transform (LWT), discrete cosine transform (DCT), discrete fractional angular transform (DFAT) and SVD. Four sub-band images are produced from the host image by LWT and DCT. The improved DFAT, whose scaling factors and parameter are optimized by particle swarm optimization algorithm, is operated in the new matrix. Afterwards, SVD is executed in the two-part image and the encrypted watermark is embedded in the host image by mutual operation of different matrices. Simulation results validate that the proposed watermark scheme is superior in the aspects of security, robustness and imperceptibility.

Research and Application of the Transient Electromagnetic Method Inversion Technique Based on particle swarm optimization algorithm

The transient electromagnetic (TEM) method is widely used in shallow surface engineering geological surveys due to its advantages such as light weight, high efficiency, and strong resolution. However, interpretation and inversion of TEM data is a complicated process. The traditional algorithm of TEM inversion employs the "smoke ring" fast imaging method, which can only reflect the approximate morphology of the stratigraphic model, and the inversion accuracy is low. Therefore, this method cannot meet the requirements of high-precision inversion. In this article, we present the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm for TEM inversion. First of all, the response of the rectangular loop source TEM based on electric dipole integration was calculated and compared with the analytical solution results of the rectangular loop source and the accuracy of the algorithm was verified. Then, we introduced the solution process of the particle swarm optimization algorithm and analyzed the influence of particle swarm optimization algorithm parameter selection on the accuracy of the inversion result and the convergence speed. Next, a layered medium model was established. The particle swarm optimization algorithm and "smoke ring" fast imaging method were used to perform inversion calculation. The results show that the PSO algorithm has the advantages of high efficiency and accuracy. Finally, we examined the effectiveness of the particle swarm optimization algorithm for TEM data processing by inverting survey data from an Air-raid shelter on the campus of Chongqing University in China and comparing the results with those from the "smoke ring" fast imaging. The research works in this article provide new methods and techniques for TEM data processing.

Trajectory planning of a redundant planar manipulator based on joint classification and particle swarm optimization algorithm

This paper presents a general method for the trajectory planning of the redundant planar manipulator. The mathematical relation between joint space and Cartesian space in a two-dimensional space is first derived. The joint classification is employed to obtain the solutions of corresponding joints. It divides joints into class I redundant joints, class II redundant joints, and nonredundant joints. The new application of knot points in the quintic B-spline curve is introduced to generate inverse solutions of class I redundant joints. Examples show that the number and distribution of knot points have a large effect on their solutions. Moreover, the particle swarm optimization algorithm is extended to generate solutions of class II redundant joints. It also optimizes the initial trajectories of joints and end-effector. Finally, solutions of nonredundant joints can be generated by the derived relation between the joint space and Cartesian space. The proposed methodology is confirmed by a case study. Under the same conditions, results show that the solution obtained by the extended method is not only better than that obtained by the particle swarm optimization algorithm but also closer to the global optimal solution.

Inverse design of a binary waveguide crossing by the particle swarm optimization algorithm

This paper describes the inverse design of the particle swarm optimization algorithm combined with the three-dimensional finite-difference time-domain simulation to design a waveguide crossing that resembles a binary code. The device consists of 15 x 15 air holes in a 220-nm silicon slab on a 3-mu m-thick SiO2 substrate with one input port and three output waveguide ports. The designed device has a small footprint of 4 mu m(2) and a short simulation time of 1.7 h. In the wavelength range of 1.5-1.6 mu m, the device has insertion loss IL < 0.85 dB and crosstalk XT < -14.5 dB. This device tolerates air hole-position disordering of eta(p) = 23%, and hole-radius disordering of eta = 35%, so it is appropriate to use in the complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor fabrication process. The paper also proposes integrated interconnections that contain 2 x 2 waveguide crossings and have IL < 2.9 dB and XT < -13 dB, and 3 x 3 waveguide crossings that have IL < 5 and XT < -12.5 dB.
