Determination of J/ψ Event Number via J/ψ → μ^＋μ^- and J/ψ → e^＋e^- at BESⅢ

The decays of J/ψ → μ^＋μ^- and J/ψ → e^＋e^- are studied by Monte-Carlo simulation, based on the Beijing Spectrometer （BES）Ⅲ offtine software system. The methods of determination of the J/ψ event number via J/ψ → μ^＋μ^- and J/ψ → e^＋e^- are presented, respectively. These methods can be used to determine the J/ψ event number for the coming BESⅢ J/ψ data sample.

Quark Virtuality and QCD Vacuum Condensates

Based on the Dyson--Schwinger equations (DSEs) in the `rainbow" approximation, we investigate the quark virtuality in the vacuum state and quantum-chromodynamics (QCD) vacuum condensates. In particular, we calculate the local quark vacuum condensate and quark-gluon mixed condensates, and then the virtuality of quark. The calculated quark virtualities are λ 2u, d = 0.7GeV2 for u, d quarks, and λ 2s = 1.6GeV2 for s quark. Our theoretical predictions are consistent with empirical values used in QCD sum rules, and also fit to lattice QCD predictions.

Probe R-Parity Violating Supersymmetry in Forward--Backward Asymmetry

We investigate the possibility of probing R-parity violating interactions in forward-backward asymmetries, and conclude that the Tevatron collider is the best place to measure new interactions involving the first generation of quarks. With additional down type squark ~dk contributions, the charge asymmetry in e＋e— events around Z-pole mass region at the Tevatron will be sensitive to R-parity violating couplings λ’11k, which was inaccessible to the LEP Qfb had inclusive measurement. Assuming no apparent deviation from SM prediction is observed, λ’11k〈 0.19 at 95% C.L. with squark mass Mdk=100 GeV can be derived.

Why Do Deconfinement and Chiral Restoration Coincide at High Temperature？

The global colour model in free space is extended to finite temperature to study the deconfinement and chiral phase transitions at high temperature T and zero chemical potential in the mean field approximation. Both possibilities of coincidence and non-coincidence of the two distinct phase transitions are found when the model parameters are varied in a certain range. The underlying mechanisms of the coincidence and noncoincidence are analysed and discussed. The validity of the T-dependent model propagator as the input is also discussed.

The Renormalized Equation of State and Quark Star

By means of the EOS of QCD at zero temperature and finite quark chemical potential we proposed [Phys. Rev. D 78 （2008） 054001] in the framework of rainbow-ladder approximation of Dyson-Schwinger approach, we investigate the structure of quark star and its property. It is found that the mass-radius relation in our model is very different from that of usual quark star models, but similar to neutron star models. The obtained mass of quark star is about 1.75M⊙- 2.2M⊙. The obtained radius of quark star is 22 - 26 km, which is obviously larger than the results in other models. The reason for this discrepancy is analyzed.

The reactions π-p→ηn and γp→ηp are investigated within a dynamical coupled-channels model of meson production reactions in the nucleon resonance region. The meson-baryon channels included are πN, ηN, π-, σN, and ρN. The direct η-photoproduction process is studied within a formalism based on a chiral constituent quark model approach, complemented with a one-gluon-exchange mechanism, to take into account the breakdown of the SU(6)O(3) symmetry. In the models search, the following known nucleon resonances are embodied: S11(1535), S11(1650), P11(1440), P11(1710), P13(1720), D13(1520), D13(1700), D15(1675), and F15(1680). Data for the π-p→ηn reaction from threshold up to a total center-of-mass energy of W ≈ 2 GeV are satisfactorily reproduced. For the photoproduction channel, two additional higher mass known resonances, P13(1900) and F15(2000), are also considered. However, reproducing the data for γp→ηp requires, within our approach, two new nucleon resonances, for which we extract mass and width.

Calculation of Quark-Number Susceptibility at Finite Chemical Potential and Temperature

We use the direct method proposed by He et al. [Phys. Lett. B 680 （2009） 432） to calculate the quark-number susceptibility （QNS） at finite temperature and the chemical potential in the quasi-particle model. In our approach the QNS is given by a formula solely involving the dressed quark propagator at finite chemical potential μ and temperature Τ. The QNS at finite μ and Τ is calculated in the quasi-particle model. It is found that at high temperatures the QNS tends to the ideal quark gas result. At very small temperatures the QNS vanishes. This vanishing behavior in the low-temperature region is consistent with the lattice results. For μ∈ [0,180] MeV, our results show that there exists a rapid increase of QNS near some temperatures. The temperature at which the rapid increase occurs shifts to smaller values with the increasing quark chemical potential. This rapid increase could be regarded as a signal of a crossover.
