Spatial accessibility analysis and location optimization of emergency shelters in Deyang

The selection and planning of the location of emergency shelters have a crucial impact on the safety of residents and cities. In this paper, based on multivariate open geographic data, the Gaussian two-step floating catchment area method, K-means clustering, and particle swarm optimization algorithm methods are utilized to carry out a spatial accessibility analysis and location optimization of emergency shelters in Deyang City, Sichuan Province, China. The study shows that: (1) Deyang City's emergency shelters are higher than the government's relevant standard requirements in terms of major indicators such as single building area, total area and per capita shelter area. (2) The spatial distribution of emergency shelters in the study area is uneven and unreasonable, with accessibility from the urban center outwards, exhibiting a "high-low" distribution pattern. (3) The study suggests that 10 new emergency shelters can reduce the number of accessible blind areas by 43.31%. The study recommends that the assessment and construction of emergency shelter facilities in rural areas in China and globally should be emphasized. Reliable recommendations for improvement of emergency shelter planning in Deyang city are provided in the study results.

optimization control of hydrometallurgical leaching process based on IDE-MPC

The utilization rate of raw materials during the hydrometallurgical leaching process has a great influence on the whole economic benefits of the hydrometallurgy plant, so it is necessary for the leaching process to improve the utilization of materials using optimization control methods. In this paper, the dynamic model for the hydrometallurgical leaching process of a gold hydrometallurgy plant is first built based on the reaction mechanism of the process. Then, the model parameters are identified using least-squares fitting. Thereafter, with the maximum economic benefit as the objective function, the steady-state economic optimization model of the leaching process is established, and an improved particle swarm optimization algorithm is used to solve the model. Taking the optimization results as the control objective, a model predictive control method based on an improved differential evolution algorithm is proposed to control the leaching process, so as to improve the intractability and anti-disturbance performance of the controller for the leaching process. The simulation results show that the proposed optimization and control methods achieve satisfactory effects.

Nuclear power plants have a complex structure and changeable operation mode, which induces low setting calculation efficiency. After analyzing the technology, architecture, and functional logic of a variety of relay protection setting calculation systems and combining the characteristics of the setting calculation of nuclear power plants, the relay protection setting calculation system in nuclear power plants based on B/S architecture and cloud computing is studied in this paper. The system adopts three-tier B/S architecture, applies two key technologies, the cloud computing task distribution synchronization mechanism and the cloud component automatic assembly mechanism, and introduces a particle swarm optimization algorithm to provide technical support for nuclear power plant setting calculation;the running example of the nuclear power plant system fully proves the efficiency and reliability of the relay protection setting calculation system of the nuclear power plant, which has high practical value.

Performance analysis of hybrid geometric-probabilistic shaped 8/12 quadrature amplitude modulation for coherent optical communication system

. A hybrid shaping (HS) scheme based on geometric shaping (GS) and probabilistic shaping (PS) in a coherent optical communication system is proposed. A particle swarm optimization algorithm and Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution are employed to sequentially implement GS and PS. The results demonstrate that hybrid shaped 8/12-ary quadrature amplitude modulation (HS-8/12QAM) is superior to regular-8/12QAM (R-8/12QAM) in terms of reducing the bit error rate (BER) and increasing the generalized mutual information (GMI). HS-8QAM achieves a 2 dB optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) gain and 0.45bits/symbol GMI gain compared with R-8QAM. Meanwhile, HS-12QAM achieves 1.9 dB OSNR gain and 0.68 bits/symbol GMI gain compared with R-12QAM. In addition, HS-8/12QAM is better than R-8/12QAM in terms of transmission distance and data rate.

Energy-Storage optimization Strategy for Reducing Wind Power Fluctuation via Markov Prediction and PSO Method

Wind power penetration ratios of power grids have increased in recent years;thus, deteriorating power grid stability caused by wind power fluctuation has caused widespread concern. At present, configuring an energy storage system with corresponding capacity at the grid connection point of a large-scale wind farm is an effective solution that improves wind power dispatchability, suppresses potential fluctuations, and reduces power grid operation risks. Based on the traditional energy-storage battery dispatching scheme, in this study, a multi-objective hybrid optimization model for joint wind-farm and energy-storage operation is designed. The impact of two new aspects, the energy-storage battery output and wind-power future output, on the current energy storage operation are considered. Wind-power future output assessment is performed using a wind-power-based Markov prediction model. The particle swarm optimization algorithm is used to optimize the wind-storage grid-connected power in real time, to develop an optimal operation strategy for an energy storage battery. Simulations incorporating typical daily wind power data from a several-hundred-megawatt wind farm and rolling optimization of the energy storage output reveal that the proposed method can reduce the grid-connected wind power fluctuation, the probability of overcharge and over-discharge of the stored energy, and the energy storage dead time. For the same smoothing performance, the proposed method can reduce the energy storage capacity and improve the economic efficiency of the wind-storage joint operation.

Thermo-economic optimization of the direct-condensation radiant heating panel: A numerical-based approach

The direct-condensation radiant heating panel (DRHP) is considered as an efficient heating terminal in space heating. In this study, a numerical-based optimization approach is proposed for the thermoeconomic performance improvement of the DRHP. An improved numerical model of the DRHP considering the heat conduction of the composite straight-and-circular fins and that of the connecting segments is established. The analytical solutions of the heat conduction of the composite straight-and-circular fins are derived to improve the prediction accuracy and computation speed. The model is validated by the experimental data. Based on the proposed model, the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is adopted to maximize the heating capacity under per unit cost of the DRHP. The optimization constraints are determined with the parametric analysis and the iterations are examined to be 30. Based on the optimization approach, the optimized DRHPs are obtained for heat pump units with different output powers, and the heating capacity under per unit cost of the optimized DRHP is increased by 44.2%. Research on fault location algorithm of TPSS based on PSOA

It is extremely important to research traction power supply system (TPSS) protection technology in order to ensure the safe operation of urban rail transit. A TPSS includes rails, return cables, rail potential limiting devices, one-way conducting devices, drainage cabinets, ballast beds, and tunnel structural reinforcements. In urban rail transit, on the basis of the dynamic characteristics of the TPSS, a fault location algorithm based on particle swarm optimization algorithm (PSOA) is developed. An evaluation of multi-point monitoring data is proposed based on fuzzy processing of the average value of polarization potential forward deviation and multi-attribute decision-making. Monitoring points and standard comparison threshold values are determined by the distribution law of stray currents. In conjunction with the actual project, the model is trained using field measured data. Based on the results, TPSSOA is able to achieve optimal discharge current control, reduce network losses and improve power quality. Moreover, the reconstruction results demonstrate the high usability of the proposed method, which will provide guidance to design the TPSS in the future.

An improved two-layer model for rumor propagation considering time delay and event-triggered impulsive control strategy

The rapid development of the Internet has broadened the existing channels of rumor propagation, it has added many new features during the dynamic process of the rumor propagation that are different from those in the past. In this paper, we construct an improved XYZ -ISR two-layer model considering time delay to describe the dynamic process of rumor propagation in multiple channels. Firstly, we obtain the basic regeneration number R0 by the next generation matrix method. Secondly, we derive the stability condition of the equilibrium point by constructing Lyapunov functions. In order to reduce the negative impact caused by rumor propagation at min-imum cost, we design an event-triggered impulsive control strategy and optimize the control parameters by using a particle swarm optimization algorithm. Then, by comparing the rumor propagation process in the XYZ -ISR two-layer model and the classical rumor DK model, we find that although rumors propagate faster in the XYZ -ISR model in the initial stage, the rumor spreads on a smaller scale than in the DK model in terms of the whole life cycle of the rumor due to the official supervision and timely release of corresponding rumor-debunking infor-mation. Besides, individuals need a certain amount of careful consideration time between receiving the infor-mation and deciding whether to forward it or not, and this time delay slows the behavior spreading and reduces its scale. Finally, we verify the reasonableness of the above theoretical results through numerical simulations. Moreover, by simulating a rumor case on the microblog with real data, we find that the model proposed in this paper can fit the real rumor propagation process well, and the event-triggered impulsive control strategy can control the rumor propagation more effectively in multiple channels.

Abnormal Heart Sound Detection using Time-Frequency Analysis and Machine Learning Techniques

Phonocardiogram (PCG) signals contains valuable information pertaining to heart valve functionality, rendering them potentially useful for early detection of cardiovascular diseases. Automated classification of heart sounds harbors great promise for identifying cardiac pathologies. This paper introduces a novel automated approach to classify normal and abnormal heart sounds. Our methodology involves partitioning heart sounds into four segments: S1, S2, systolic, and diastolic, followed by extraction of time-frequency and time-statistical features. Prior to data classification, we employ two techniques - particle swarm optimization (PSO) and Sequential Forward Feature Selection (SFFS) - for efficient feature selection. We assess the performance of the proposed method on the Physionet Challenge 2016 database, utilizing the 10-fold cross-validation method. To address the issue of dataset imbalance, we apply the synthetic minority over-sampling technique (SMOTE) to create balanced datasets. Our approach surpasses existing methods in the literature, as evidenced by its superior accuracy, sensitivity, and specificity metrics. Specifically, our method achieves an accuracy of 98.03%, a sensitivity of 97.64%, and a specificity of 98.43% in distinguishing normal from abnormal heart sounds on the Physionet database. These findings outperform the results obtained by previously established methods evaluated on the Physionet 2016 challenge database.

Energy-efficient beamforming optimization for MISO communication based on reconfigurable intelligent surface

Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS), a planar metasurface consisting of a large number of low-cost reflecting elements, has received much attention due to its ability to improve both the spectrum and energy efficiency (EE) by reconfiguring the wireless propagation environment. In this paper, we propose a base station (BS) beamforming and RIS phase shift optimization technique that maximizes the EE of a RIS-aided multiple-input-single-output system. In particular, considering the system circuits' energy consumption, an EE maximization problem is formulated by jointly optimizing the active beamforming at the BS and the passive beamforming at the RIS, under the constraints of each user' rate requirement, the BS's maximal transmit power budget and unit-modulus constraint of the RIS phase shifts. Due to the coupling of optimization variables, this problem is a complex non-convex optimization problem, and it is challenging to solve it directly. To overcome this obstacle, we divide the problem into active and passive beamforming optimization subproblems. For the first subproblem, the active beamforming is given by the maximum ratio transmission optimal strategy. For the second subproblem, the optimal phase shift matrix at the RIS is obtained by exploiting sine cosine algorithm (SCA). Moreover, for this case where each reflection element's working state is controlled by a circuit switch, each reflection element's switch value is optimized with the aid of particle swarm optimization algorithm. Finally, numerical results verify the effectiveness of our proposed algorithm compared to other algorithms.(c) 2023 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
