In this paper, we propose a framework to attain the integrated design of polar coding and spatial modulation (SM) such that the performance of coded SM-MIMO system can be efficiently improved. This polar-SM framework recognizes SM and polar coding from a unified perspective of polarization by which the original SM-MIMO channel is split into a series of bit polarized subchannels under the three-stage channel transform, i.e., index-symbol -> modulation -> bit partitions. This paradigm exploits the underlying weak polarization effect within the SM signal, then concatenates with the binary polarization in polar coding, forming a signal-coding cascaded polarization framework. In particular, the first stage channel transform serially decomposes the original SM-MIMO channel into the index subchannel and the symbol subchannel. This mechanism follows the chain rule of mutual information, which preserves the capacity and maximizes the polarization effect. Combining with modulation and bit partitions, we prove the capacity-achieving property of polar-SM. From the point of practicality, we propose a rate-filling method to realize a fast and low-complexity code construction of polar-SM. Guided by the three-stage channel transform, we design a glued successive cancellation list (gSCL) decoding algorithm at the receiver to integrate SM detection and polar decoding as a collaborative ensemble. Simulation results validate the performance gain of polar-SM over state-of-the-art polar-coded MIMO systems and LDPC-coded SM systems.

In this article, we propose a polarization-aided polar coding scheme over nonorthogonal multiple access channels operated with physical-layer network coding (PN-NOMA), where $M$ users adopt polar coding for transmission. By exploiting the characteristic of physical-layer network coding and polar encoding, we found that the polar code at the users can be seen as nested codes and subcodeword of a larger polar code. It enables us to construct a single (virtual) polar code at the receiver, which has the length M times longer than that of the original user codes. In this way, we can decode all the user messages within this single polar code. The channel polarization effect as well as the decoding performance can be improved. We further propose a Monte Carlo-based code construction for the virtual polar code with user channel coefficients, and short nested user codes can be individually derived from this code. Simulation results show that the proposed PN-NOMA can achieve significant performance gains of more than 0.5 dB as compared to conventional polar-coded NOMA (PC-NOMA) over power-imbalanced channels, and this gain is more than 2 dB over Rayleigh fading channels.

On Probabilistic Weight Distribution of polar Codes

polar code is a low-complexity and capacity-achieving code with applications in channel coding, source coding and secrecy. One way to evaluate the error performance of the finite-length polar 'channel' code, for instance, is to use Bonferroni-type (e.g., union bound) bounds requiring the Hamming weight distribution. Currently, there are no low-complexity algorithms for the polar code's spectra. In this paper, we propose a recursive probabilistic weight distribution (PWD) expression for polar codes. As this expression is complex, two polynomial-time approximations and a tree-based approach have been presented for a faster implementation of the PWD method with much accuracy.

A New coding Scheme for UMP and JSCC in Short-Packet Communications

This letter proposes a new coding scheme for short-packet communications, where the messages are encoded successively at the transmitter by a classified enumerative (CE) coding, a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) coding and a polar coding, and then recovered reliably at the receiver by a triple-check hypothesis testing decoding. The proposed scheme can be applied not only in an unequal message protection (UMP) scenario, where different classes of messages have different reliability requirements, but also in a joint source-channel coding (JSCC) system. To evaluate the performance of the JSCC, we present the weighted dependence testing (DT) bound, which is then exploited as a criterion for classifying messages. Simulation results show that: 1) Our UMP coding scheme can provide more error protection for low-entropy messages;2) Our JSCC scheme can outperform the double polar JSCC scheme and is close to the JSCC DT bound.

A fixed-length to fixed-length binary distribution matcher based on polar coding is presented that can generate an output sequence with a target probability distribution in a reversible way. An algorithm to obtain the required parameters and their proper approximations are provided. The method is further extended to support arbitrary output lengths and transmission over noisy channels.

polarization of a Point-to-Point Channel by a Multiple Access Channel: A New Method for Different Channel polarization

The polar coding method which was proposed by Arikan is mentioned. In this article, we will apply this method for the polarization of a general Multiple Access Channel. It will be shown that the polarization of a general Multiple Access Channel with a point-to-point channel can be given a more achievable rate region in the general form. The encoding and decoding complexity for these codes are O(N . log N) and error probability for them is O(2(-(N)beta)) like the original channel polarization method. Some numerical examples for the proposed method and the competitors are also given.

Noise-Aided Belief Propagation List Decoding of polar Codes

Noise can help weak information bearing signal to be detected in nonlinear systems by the use of stochastic perturbation. In this letter, we propose a novel belief propagation list (BPL) decoder that relies on artificial noise. The proposed decoder is constructed by using parallel independent BP decoders. Noise with different powers are added to different BP decoders that runs in parallel, and the output of the decoder that pass the early detection and termination criteria check is considered as the recovered data. Adding small amount of noise enables the decoder to handle un-converged errors. The obtained results show that the performance of noise-aided BPL decoder is much better than the performances of BP, successive cancelation (SC), and successive cancelation list (SCL) decoders, and it is a bit behind of cyclic redundancy check aided SCL in terms of bit-error rate performance.

Conventional underwater acoustic communication (UAC) systems typically employ a direct cascading approach of channel coding and continuous phase modulation (CPM). Although this approach has shown inspiring performance, the detection and the decoding processes are treated as separate modules, which results in incompletely exploiting the state information of CPM. We propose an improved joint detection and decoding scheme for non-binary CPM and polar codes. Furthermore, considering the exponential complexity growth of CPM with modulation order M and memory length m, a complexity reduction strategy is proposed to enhance practicality. Through simulations, we have validated the reliability of the proposed joint scheme, which exhibits significant performance improvements compared to traditional strategies of separate detection and decoding.

A cooperative partial message relaying (CPMR) scheme based on distributed polar codes (DPC) is proposed to achieve the maximal decode-and-forward (DF) rate of the stochastically degraded symmetric binary-input two-relay network with orthogonal receiver components (TRN-ORCs). In the proposed scheme, the code design problem of the degraded TRN-ORCs is transformed into a problem of polar codes with CPMR protocol. According to the nested structure of polar codes, the messages transmitted by the source and the first relay are recovered successfully at the two relays, respectively, and then the two relays yield correct partial messages for transmission to solve the uncertainty of the source message at the destination. With the help of the CPMR protocol, the destination should be able to reconstruct the source message correctly. In addition to the practical consideration of the construction of the CPMR protocol based on DPC, we also derived that the block error probability of the proposed scheme can be upper bounded by O(2(-N beta)) for any constant beta (0 < beta < 1/2), and sufficiently large block length N.

In this paper, we introduce a novel rate-profile design based on search-constrained optimization techniques to assess the performance of polarization-adjusted convolutional (PAC) codes under Fano (sequential) decoding. The results demonstrate that the optimized PAC code offers much reduced computational complexity compared to a construction based on a conventional genetic algorithm without a loss in error-correction performance. We propose an adaptive successive cancellation list decoding algorithm as the fitness function of our algorithm to determine the weight distribution of the rate profiles. The simulation results indicate that, for a PAC(256, 128) code, only 8% of the population requires that their fitness function be evaluated with a large list size. This represents an improvement of almost 92% over a conventional evolutionary algorithm. For a PAC(64, 32) code, this improvement is about 99%. We also consider highrate PAC(128, 105) and PAC(64, 51) codes, showing superior performance compared to other existing algorithms.
