We study the above-threshold ionization(ATI)process of atoms exposed to fundamental and high-frequency lasers with arbitrary ellipticity by applying the frequency-domain *** is found that the angular-resolved ATI spectrum is sensitive to ellipticities of two lasers and emitted angles of the *** for the photon energy of the highfrequency laser more than atomic ionization potential,the width of plateau tends to a constant with increasing ellipticity of fundamental field,the dip structure disappears with increasing ellipticity of the high-frequency *** the help of the quantum channel analysis,it is shown that the angular distribution depends mainly on the ellipticity of high-frequency field in the case that its frequency is ***,one can see that the maximal and minimal energies in quantum numerical results are in good agreement with the classical *** investigation may provide theoretical support for experimental research on polarization control of ionization in elliptically polarized two-color laser fields.

Terahertz (THz) communication and sensing technology has recently gained increasing attention. Metallic parallel plate waveguides (PPWG) have been researched since they were proven to be the carrier of lossless transmission of THz waves. However, previous reports have focused on the transmission and phase properties of single-polarized THz waves in PPWGs and have barely investigated the polarization properties. To reconstruct the polarization of the output THz wave in a PPWG, we study the transmission and phase properties of both TE and TM modes in detail. The phase difference of the TE and TM modes can be continuously adjusted by varying the propagation length and the gap of the two plates in PPWG due to the different dispersion of the two modes. The polarization ellipticity and rotation angle can be modulated in the range of +/- 45 degrees. When a photonic cavity structure is applied to a PPWG, the output wave will be converted to 90 degrees linear polarization at the frequency located in the cavity mode. All the proposed polarization control can be tuned by changing the structural parameters forming the PPWGs, making this approach attractive for integrating the function of the THz waveguides, which has significance for THz communication and sensing.

polarization characteristics of terahertz waves generated from a short air plasma excited by femtosecond three-color pulses with a frequency ratio of 1:2:3 have been theoretically investigated, and the results show that flexible and effective control of terahertz polarization can be achieved by means of changing the polarization combination and relative phase of three-color pulses, which is related to the electric field spatiotemporal distribution of the synthetic pulse formed via three-color pulse superposition. The complicated spatiotemporal distribution can be made clear by analyzing the projection component of the electric field in the three-dimensional Cartesian coordinate system. For terahertz waves generated from a short air plasma filament, the proposed method of terahertz polarization control on the basis of a three-color pulse scheme can be realized by ordinary multi-cycle laser pulses and overcome the disadvantage of few-cycle laser pulses utilized to obtain nearly circularly polarized intense terahertz waves or elliptically polarized intense terahertz waves with large ellipticity in the two-color pulse scheme. polarization control and enhanced magnetic field sensitivity utilizing surface plasmon polaritons-assisted dual-V-type four-level system

We propose a kind of surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs)-assisted dual-V-type four-level composite system used for high-sensitivity weak magnetic field measurement. The SPPs are excited by a D-shaped photonic crystal fiber (PCF) deposited with gold nanowires, and are interacted with the above quantum emitter from the rubidium atomic vapor. In the presence of the external magnetic field, Faraday rotation symmetry is broken due to Zeeman effect, resulting in the polarization plane rotation when a linearly polarized probe field goes through the above quantum emitter. With the help of the coupled field and SPPs, Faraday magneto-optical rotation (MOR) are effectively regulated. The Rabi frequency of the coupled field (omega c ), quantum interference degree (q), and phase difference (phi) between the applied fields show strong dependence on the MOR angle and magnetic field measurement sensitivity. The simulated results reveal that the maximum MOR angle and magnetic field sensitivity both damp with omega c expanding and q reducing. The maximum dichroism-independent MOR angle of 89.97 degrees is realized for phi = 0 degrees (180 degrees), and the magnetic field sensitivity of 10.88 degrees/Oe is obtained in the sweeping range of -8.88-8.88 Oe for q = 0.99, being 2.66 degrees/Oe higher than that in the absence of SPPs (q = 0). Most importantly, the output probe field with different polarization forms can be realized by adjusting the phi value. Hence, the proposed device exhibits the potential in the fields of weak magnetic field measurement and polarization control.

polarization control investigation based on an integrated graphene-assisted microring cavity

In this paper, we propose and analyze an integrated polarization-selective structure of a graphene-assisted silica microring cavity to realize polarization control due to different optical distributions of whispering-gallery modes in the microring and polarization-dependent absorptions of graphene. A graphene stripe is partially side coupled with a silica microring to distinctly influence the propagations of a TE mode and TM mode in the microring. Especially, the appearance of the plasmonic mode in the groove between the graphene and the microring enhances light-matter interaction between the graphene and the TM-polarized mode, while without that for the case of TE mode propagation. By applying voltage on the graphene stripe along with its electro-optic modulation effect, the difference in the polarization extinction ratio of 20.6 dB is obtained between the cases of the polarized TM mode and TE mode in the microring. Furthermore, a second silica microring is added in this hybrid structure to couple the original microring along with a graphene stripe embedded in between finally realizing an electromagnetically induced transparency line shape because of the plasmonic coupling in both cavities with the condition of TM mode propagation, while without any line-shape change for the case of TE mode propagation. This compact hybrid structure offers a good integrated photonic platform to realize an excellent polarization-selective device.& COPY;2023 Optica Publishing Group

Multilevel Optical Storage, Dynamic Light Modulation, and polarization control in Filamented Memristor System

The electrochemical metallization (ECM) mechanism is emerging as a promising approach for the development of optical memristors-nonvolatile memory systems proposed for use as artificial synapses in neuromorphic computing applications. ECM memristors offer exceptional operating dynamics and power efficiency compared to other systems, but challenges with reproducible cycle-to-cycle state switching and the absence of advanced optical functionalities hinder their integration into photonic systems. In this work, an ECM free-standing memristor structure is proposed, which simultaneously offers wavelength-dependent multilevel nonvolatile optical storage, volatile light modulation, and dynamic polarization control. It is demonstrated that in the presence of a resonance, the optical readout provides noise-free, robust, and significantly more accurate information about the memristor's state than electrical measurement. The use of light allows to gain insight into the intermediate electrical levels of the device as it transitions between high and low resistance states and to recover the complete record of applied voltages even when stochastic filament ruptures occur. Finally, the investigations show that spectroscopic ellipsometry provides real-time information on the dynamics of cation movement and the corresponding permittivity changes at the interfaces between the switching layer and the electrodes, thus becoming a complementary characterization method for ECM memristors alongside state-of-the-art techniques.

795 nm vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs) with in-phase surface gratings are fabricated and investi-gated theoretically and experimentally. The polarization characteristics of 795 nm VCSELs with various grating periods and depths are analyzed using the rigorous coupled-wave analysis (RCWA) method;the dependence of polarization stability on the profile of gratings demonstrates that the trapezoid grating ridge slightly enhances the orthogonal polarization suppression ratio (OPSR), but increases the threshold current. The fabricated VCSELs with a sub-wavelength in-phase surface grating of a duty cycle of 0.5 show stabilized output polarization at the cost of increasing the threshold current which is in agreement with the calculations. The grating VCSELs with a period of 200 nm and an oxide aperture of 3.43 mu m x 4.39 mu m produce a single-mode output with an OPSR of 16.6 dB and a slope efficiency of 0.42 W/A at 85 degrees C. Experimental validation of a reversal operator-based QKD polarization control method

The ability to efficiently align the transmitter and receiver of a polarization-based Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) system at initialization and during the exchange of qubits is critical for its correct operation, otherwise resulting in a reduction of the secret key rate. We address this issue by implementing a deterministic polarization compensation method based on the reversal operator of polarization variations. The working principle of this reversal operator is based on Quantum Bit Error Rate (QBER) measurements and their mapping on the Poincar & eacute;sphere, enabling fast tracking and compensation of polarization misalignments. Our experimental implementation demonstrates that this method allows for an accurate alignment of the polarization coding and measurement basis using only three QBER measurements. The results confirm that the reversal operator method is exceptionally time-efficient when compared to the widely used compensation methods, such as gradient-based algorithms, requiring at least 5x fewer QBER measurements.

Dynamic polarization control by adjustable cross-polarization coupling in time-periodic anisotropic media

We study wave propagation in an anisotropic medium whose optic axes vary periodically in time. This variation, in addition to generating frequency products, lifts the degeneracy between the two co -propagation modes, but unlike conventional time -periodic media, preserves the propagating nature of the modes. Coupled mode theory (CMT) relations show that the proposed modulation also equalizes the group velocity of cross -polarized pulses as in an isotropic medium. These properties make this structure appropriate for dynamic manipulation of propagating waves. For small variations in the direction of the optical axis, only the off -diagonal elements of the permittivity tensor are perturbed, which results in the generation of phase -adjustable cross -polarization oscillation (CPO). In addition to the ability to convert cross -polarized states, CPO offers a mechanism for wave retardation that stems from the dynamic phase-tunability of the mode profiles. This mechanism can provide a larger degree of freedom for retardation control. Furthermore, CMT relations near the CPO point of the proposed structure reveal its potential to produce desired mode profiles by dynamic manipulation, which can create a structure with adjustable sensitivity to circular polarization. This enables selective filtering of polarization states and offering a temporal circular dichroism. The analytical results are compared to numerical results from FDTD simulations. Near-field and polarization control at terahertz with a 2D MXene/VO2 phase change metasurface

Near-field direction control of terahertz metasurface provides a new paradigm in photonic devices for terahertz (THz) communications. The control of near-field patterns and polarization states is the major challenge for THz metasurface devices. In this work, the hybrid MXene (Ti3C2Tx)/ vanadium dioxide (VO2) metasurface structure is explored for the tuning of transmission amplitude modulation, polarization control, and near-field pattern switching. The hybrid metasurface device is comprised of Ti3C2Tx/VO2 hexagon resonators arranged in a periodic array having silicon (Si) as a substrate with a thin silicon dioxide (SiO2) layer. The response of Ti3C2Tx/VO2 hybrid structure has been investigated under the influence of gate biasing and different optical pump intensities. The enhanced bandwidth tuning has been realized under the polarization and phase control. The rise of MXene conductivity with increasing gate bias is also investigated for transmission tuning. The transition of VO2 from an insulator to a conductor is specifically induced by an increase in optical pump intensity, with 95% of the transmission achieved at the 1-4 THz range. Furthermore, pi/2 rotation of near-field is realized with a change in near-field pattern symmetry at various planes. VO(2 )phase shifting, switch the near-field dipolar pattern from the z-axis to the x-axis into a twisted Gaussian pattern, when TMyx (p-polarized) incidence source is used.
