Minimum dispersion coefficient criteria based positioning algorithm for BDS

The BeiDou navigation satellite system (BDS) is one of the four global navigation satellite systems. More attention has been paid to the positioning algorithm of the BDS. Based on the study on the Kalman filter (KF) algorithm, this paper proposed a novel algorithm for the MS, named as the minimum dispersion coefficient criteria Kalman filter (MDCCKF) positioning algorithm. The MDCCKF algorithm adopts minimum dispersion coefficient criteria (MDCC) to remove the influence of noise with an alpha-stable distribution (ASD) model which can describe non-Gaussian noise effectively, especially for the pulse noise in positioning. By minimizing the dispersion coefficient of the positioning error, the MDCCKF assures positioning accuracy under both Gaussian and non-Gaussian environment. Compared with the original KF algorithm, it is shown that the MDCCKF algorithm has higher positioning accuracy and robustness. The MDCCKF algorithm provides insightful results for potential future research.

We are using a novel position sensitive avalanche photodiode (PSAPD) for the construction of a high resolution positron emission tomography (PET) camera. Up to now most researchers working with PSAPDs have been using an Anger-like positioning algorithm involving the four corner readout signals of the PSAPD. This algorithm yields a significant non-linear spatial "pin-cushion" distortion in raw crystal positioning histograms. In this paper, we report an improved positioning algorithm, which combines two diagonal corner signals of the PSAPD followed by a 45 degrees rotation to determine the-X or Y position of the interaction. We present flood positioning histogram data generated with the old and new positioning algorithms using a 3 x 4 array of 2 x 2 x 3 mm' and a 3 x 8 array of 1 x 1 x 3 mm(3) of LSO crystals coupled to 8 x 8 mm' PSAPDs. This new algorithm significantly reduces the pin-cushion distortion in raw flood histogram image.

A positioning algorithm for two-wavelength dual Mach-Zehnder interferometry (TDMZI) vibration sensing system is proposed. We employ the reciprocal of the interval between neighboring zero-crossing (NZC) points to represent the frequency distribution of the interference signal in time domain. Meanwhile, these reciprocal points are used to fit a curve and we use cross correlation to estimate the time delay of the two fitted curves. Finally we analysis the positioning error caused by the proposed positioning algorithm and experimentally demonstrate that the algorithm can be used to locating with positioning error of +/-50m. This algorithm has a promising potential in long distance two-wavelength vibration sensing system.

An offshore plant industry environment has high risk of accidents, accurate position information is important for workers safety. In this paper, UWB-based triangulation algorithm and hardware are proposed for offshore plant. The distance between the tag and the AP is measured by the TWR-ToA method, and accurate results are calculated by triangulation with three or more distance values. The proposed system consisting of tag, AP and positioning engine provides positioning results in x, y coordinates format with response time under 1 second.

Time-of-arrival (TOA) is a range-based positioning method with high positioning precision. However, TOA-based methods require strict time synchronization between nodes, which puts forward high requirements on the hardware and power consumption of sensor nodes. For the high cost hardware problem of TOA-based methods, we propose a TOA-based iterative algorithm (iTOA) that can be applied to the wireless system under the condition of low time synchronization precision to achieve high positioning precision. Without the restriction of strict time synchronization, iTOA can reduce the difficulty of hardware implementation. iTOA eliminates the time synchronization error via iteration and minimizes the non-line-of-sight propagation error by using the weighted least square method at the same time. Moreover, iTOA can be applied to the network with changing beacons. The simulation results show that the average positioning precision improves at least 27.2% and 38.3% compared to CCTG and LOP, respectively. As the time synchronization precision decreases, the positioning precision improvement is more obvious compared to CCTG and LOP. For a low time synchronization precision system, the positioning error of iTOA is almost 99.99% less than both CCTG and LOP.

In order to position, the algorithms of three satellites and two is designed when the equation groups constituted by received satellite signals can't be solved by traditional algorithm in no light of sky. The equation groups are constituted by received signal equations and earth ellipsoid equation. The equation groups are linearized with first-order Taylor series, and the location result was solved by Gauss-Newton iterative algorithm. The measurement results based on this new algorithm were analyzed in this paper and it perfectly shows that the three satellites positioning is a good supplement to the conventional location, and the Two Satellites positioning is a useful reference when there are no enough satellites that can be received.

Localization is one of the supporting technologies in wireless sensor networks. To enhance positioning accuracy of wireless sensor network node, an improved positioning algorithm is put forward based on the DV-Hop algorithm, A differential error correction scheme, in which average per hop distance of the position network and modified value of distance error are introduced, is proposed in this paper to reduce cumulative distance error and node location error accumulated over the multiple hops. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can increase location accuracy obviously and is applicable to asymmetrical network scene.

Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) are increasingly used as cost-effective and flexible Wi-Fi Access Points (APs) and cellular Base Stations (BSs) to enhance Quality of Service (QoS). In disaster management scenarios, UAV-based networks provide on-demand wireless connectivity when traditional infrastructures fail. In obstacle-rich environments like urban areas, reliable high-capacity communications links depend on Line-of-Sight (LoS) availability, especially at higher frequencies. positioning UAVs to consider obstacles and enable LoS communications represents a promising solution that requires further exploration and development. The main contribution of this paper is the Traffic- and Obstacle-aware UAV positioning algorithm (TOPA). TOPA takes into account the users' traffic demand and the need for LoS between the UAV and the ground users in the presence of obstacles. The network performance achieved when using TOPA was evaluated through ns-3 simulations. The results show up to 100% improvement in the aggregate throughput without compromising fairness.

How to take into account both the calculation cost and positioning accuracy when driving over a long distance in the scene of changing satellite visibility, such as urban areas and mountain roads, is a research topic worth of attention for intelligent vehicles. In this paper, a tightly-coupled RTK/INS positioning algorithm base on adaptive lag smoother is proposed. By combining the uncertainty of the state to be estimated at the current time and the quantitative score of satellite visibility, the lag-length in smoother can be adjusted adaptively, so as to ensure positioning accuracy while reducing the calculation cost of marginal benefit consumption as much as possible. The proposed algorithm is demonstrated in both the simulator and real-world urban roads. From the experimental results, it is found that the estimation accuracy achieved by the adaptive lag smoother is similar to that of smoothers with long lag length, but the time consumption is reduced by about 30%. Under the same condition that the positioning can be completed in real time, the accuracy of the algorithm in this paper is 27% higher than that of the tightly-coupled RTK/INS system based on extended Kalman filter.

Localization information of individual nodes is crucial for many advanced functions including routing, querying it? wireless sensor networks. Most of the existing localization algorithms in wireless sensor networks are designed for outdoor environment and few of them can get a reasonable localization precision in indoor environment. This paper presents a novel indoor localization scheme which uses the spatial connective information to filter distorted messages, so as to improve the positioning precision. We establish an indoor positioning dome system, make performance comparison with other schemes and fully prove the advantages of our proposed indoor scheme.
