In computer animation and interactive computer games, gesture and speech modality can be a powerful interface between humans and computers. In this paper, we propose a personal digital assistant (PDA)- based multi-modal network game interface using speech, gesture and touch sensations. To verify the validity of our approach, we implement a multi-modal omok game using TCP/IP on a PDA network. The experimental results using the proposed multi-modal network game resulted in an average recognition rate of 97.4%, and accordingly as the weaknesses of uni- modality, such as incorrect command processing by recognition error, are offset by the strengths of other modalities, the user can enjoy a more interactive mobile game interface in any given environment.

Channel estimation for single-input multiple-output (SIMO) time-invariant or slowly time-varying channels was recently considered in (J. K. Tugnait et al, IEEE Comm. Lett., ***-8, p.413-415, 2003) using superimposed training. A periodic (non-random) training sequence is arithmetically added (superimposed) at a low power to the information sequence at the transmitter before modulation and transmission. In the Tugnait method, the channel is estimated using only the first-order statistics of the data, under the assumption that the superimposed training sequence at the receiver is time-synchronized with its transmitted counterpart. In this paper, we remove this assumption of synchronization and propose a novel approach to superimposed training synchronization. An illustrative computer simulation example is presented.

Due to the rapid development of communications networks, as for instance mobile telephony, voice/data and Internet, reliable and disturbance-free data processing and transmission are becoming increasingly important. In a mobile telecom system, a large number of disturbances can be attributed to radiated electromagnetic emissions from various equipment. The paper describes the GTEM-cell designed at the Faculty of Electrical engineering and computing in Zagreb that can be used for EMC measurements from 0.1 to 1 GHz. This cell was used in testing the immunity of the on-board power supply to the radiated electromagnetic emission. Finally, the paper presents the experimental data on high magnitude electromagnetic field impact on different on-board DC/DC modules.

The task of clustering multivariate trajectory data of varying length exists in various domains. Model-based methods are capable of handling varying length trajectories without changing the length or structure. Hidden Markov models (HMMs) are widely used for trajectory data modeling. However, HMMs are not suitable for trajectories of long duration. In this paper, we propose a similarity based representation for multivariate, varying length trajectories of long duration using Gaussian mixture models. Each trajectory is modeled by a Gaussian mixture model (GMM). The log-likelihood of a trajectory for a given GMM model is used as a similarity score. The scores corresponding to all the trajectories in the given data set and all the GMMs are used to form a score matrix that is used in a clustering algorithm. The proposed model based clustering method is applied on the audio clips which are multivariate trajectories of varying length and long duration. The performance of the proposed method is much better than the method that uses a fixed length representation for an audio clip based on the perceptual features.

Giving a limited data set, how to derive its properties is what we are interested in this study. Although because of the increasing power of computers and Internet, collecting a huge number of data such that a database becomes a data warehouse is a common phenomenon, especially in industries, it cannot be denied that there were drastic disasters such as terrorist attacks, nuclear plants explosion which happened statistically few, yet resulted in incredible lost in many ways. How to analyze such data so that their patterns can be revealed and predicted is what we concerned. Based on possibility theory we have obtained some results that are reported in this paper with the discussion of its possible extension and applications.

It is very important how to find the test order ofclasses in OO programs to make the test work reduced. Inthis Paper, An order-assigned strategy of classesintegration testing is presented. It considers not only thestatic dependency but also dynamic dependency relationbetween classes in OO programs. Based on it, the testinglevel of all classes are defined and ordered. This article presents an offline simulation platform to test the Energy Management System (EMS) in realistic conditions for an industrial-scale Virtual power Plant (VPP) demonstration. Within the framework of EU-SysFlex H2020 project, the demonstration aims at optimally operating a VPP -including a wind farm, a battery, and photovoltaic panels- to provide multiple services to the power system. The platform simulates the 1-second behaviour of the whole system (EMS + VPP) from one day to several months. It has proved useful to jointly tune the different software parts and improve the global performance of the EMS with respect to forecast errors and contingencies.

Due to the rising amount of volatile renewable energy sources and new electrical loads, the secure and economical operation of future electrical distribution grids faces multiple challenges. These can either be met by focusing on conventional grid reinforcements, such as the installation of more robust grid equipment, or the usage of intelligent grid control procedures. By making use of flexible devices, such as energy storages or coupling of the electrical and gas sector, the volatility of the new grid participants can be reduced. A key element in such a system is the application of intelligent algorithms that are able to calculate optimal schedules for those flexible devices, given the current and predicted state of the electrical distribution grid. Classical approaches make use of model-based optimization algorithms that rely on fully-observable and deterministic models of the system. In this paper, the application of self-learning algorithms based on reinforcement learning (RL) are applied for the task of optimally scheduling flexibilities in distribution grids. These techniques offer the advantage to be independent of fully-observable physical models and work well in stochastic environments. The suitability of applying RL for these kinds of problems is examined. Comparison with classical methods shows the advantages and limitations of these data-driven methods.

The use of digital computers for power system protection and control has been studied for the past decade. However, economic considerations, reliability problems, and system constraints have prohibited the actual use of computers in substation protection schemes. Recent advances in microcomputer technology have provided power system protection engineers with a new tool. A distributed microcomputer protection scheme is introduced and compared to present substation protection techniques. Speed, reliability, and operating advantages as well as the adaptive control possibilities of the proposed system are pursued.

Electricity is an essential enabler for sustainable growth of any county. In-spite of higher electricity demand, most of the distribution companies in India suffer from high AT&C loss and non-availability of technology. However, Government of India has taken important policy decisions for power sector reform and restructuring which effectively reduce the higher aggregated technical and commercial loss (AT&C) loss and ensure uninterruptable power for millions of consumers. Tata power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata power DDL) is an example for power sector reform in Delhi through public private partnership. Re-engineering of business processes, enterprise resource planning, adoption of latest state of the art technologies, change management etc. help the utility to reduce overall AT&C loss from 53% to 8.54% over last 16 years of operation. Implementation of Distribution Automation is a major breakthrough for the utility in reducing system average interruption duration index (SAIDI) by faster identification of fault and restoration of supply, minimizing technical losses by Volt-Var control and dynamic shifting normal open point (NOP) which ultimately enhance consumer satisfaction level. Implementation of advance distribution management system (ADMS) with single user interface for SCADA, energy management system (EMS), distribution management system (DMS) and outage management system (OMS) ensures more network safety for remote operations as well as better consumer indexing. As distribution substations are scattered over large geographical areas, so cloud based communication is the most preferred and cost reflective solution in respect of present Indian scenario. However, use of public cloud for data transmission of automation devices requires cautious approach to implement a strong cyber security policy and to ensure periodic compliance of the same.
