Innovative Power Control Scheme Using the Mobility of the Station in the Large-Scale Antenna Array System

The massive multiple input multiple output (MIMO) system with large-scale antenna array at base station (BS) simultaneously communicates with many mobile stations (MSs) ensuring high reliability using the pre-coding. But, in mobile communication, the performance of the pre-coding is degraded by fast fading. For improving the performance of the pre-coding, this letter proposes the power control scheme of the new approach that has the variable step size using the statistical characteristic of fast fading and Doppler frequency. From the simulation results, it is shown that the proposed scheme improves signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) performance.

Method of interference cancellation based on space-time code in MIMO interference channels

The authors in this article investigated how to cancel multi-user interference with low feedback amount over 3-user multiple input multiple output （MIMO） interference channel using space-time code and precoders. Space-time block code with coding rate 2 was designed, also zero vectors were introduced into each codeword. The multi-user interference is mitigated by pre-coding at the transmitters and nonlinear operation and unidirectional cooperation link at the receivers. Compared with the existing scheme for the same scene, the proposed scheme greatly reduces feedback amount and improves the sum degrees of freedom （DOF）. Simulation demonstrates the validity of the proposed scheme.

Generalised pre-coding quadrature spatial modulation(GPQSM)is recently proposed to increase the spectral efficiency(SE)of GPSM,which extends the transmitted symbols into in-phase/quadrature *** this paper,a novel scheme named non-orthogonal multiple access(NOMA)-aided GPQSM(NOMA-GPQSM),which incorporates the GPQSM scheme into the multi-user communication networks with assist of NOMA,is proposed to further improve the SE and system *** NOMA-GPQSM,one base station(BS)is set to serve K users,where user 1 is closest to the BS,and user K is farthest from the *** addition,a low-complexity detection method is proposed to reduce the high detection complexity of the maximum-likelihood(ML)detection in successive interference cancellation(SIC)method for all users by *** theoretical analysis of the BER performance for all users is also *** results show that near users achieve relatively good performance,and far users achieve acceptable performance by adjusting power factors for all users in NOMA-GPQSM.

A study on link adaptation scheme with multiple code words for spectral efficiency improvement on OFDM-MIMO systems

In this paper, we propose the stream multiplexing scheme to achieve the high spectral efficiency on OFDM-MlMO system considering (a) the effects of the inter-stream interference suppression techniques, (b) the influence of the quality measurement in the receiver to select the modulation and coding scheme (MCS) and (c) the influence of the signaling overheads to the spectral efficiency. Two kinds of schemes for stream multiplexing, namely Multiple CodeWord (MCW) and Single CodeWord (SCW) are investigated and compared. In the simulations, we assume real channel estimation for SlNR measurement for MCS selection and we compare the schemes with the spectral efficiency taking into account overheads. In consequence, it is presented that MCW can achieve the higher efficiency than SCW in the middle to high SINR region. Moreover, in 4 x 4 antenna configuration, a 2CW-MCW scheme where 2 codewords mapped onto 4 streams according to SINR of each streams is proposed. The scheme gives higher throughput by improving the MCS selection in the low SINR region due to increase of data length per a codeword and by reducing the signaling overhead due to the decrease of the number of codewords. As a result, the proposed scheme achieves spectral efficiency improvement in whole SINR region.

Hybrid Spatial Modulation Aided Distributed Relays: Threshold Detection and Constellation Rotation

In this paper, the hybrid spatial modulation (SM) aided virtual multiple-input multiple-output one-way and two-way relaying architectures with multiple distributed single-antenna relay nodes are studied. For the one-way relaying with multiple-antenna source and destination nodes, a two-stage relay detector is proposed. In the proposed detector, first, the relay node determines its state, active or silent, through the energy-based threshold detection;second, the signal is estimated and forwarded only when the relay node is active. Furthermore, the threshold is designed based on a simplified error probability criterion. For the two-way relaying with two multiple-antenna source nodes, a two-phase relaying based on signal constellation rotation and simple XOR network coding (NC) is presented. First, both source nodes transmit pre-coding-aided SM symbols simultaneously to relay nodes. Second, the relay nodes estimate the source signals, perform XOR NC, and broadcast the relay signal to both source nodes through the distributed SM. To improve the detection performance of relay nodes, the signal constellation used at one source node is a rotated version of that at the other source node, and the optimization of the rotation angle is presented. Finally, the validity of both the proposed detector for one-way relaying and the proposed relay protocol for two-way relaying is justified by simulation results.

Vectored DSL: Potential, Implementation Issues and Challenges

This paper investigates specific techniques suitable for Vectored DSL, their performance, complexity and practical implementation. More specifically, various Vectored DSL techniques for both upstream and downstream transmission are discussed, including the Tomlinson-Harashima pre-coder (THP), Diagonalizing pre-coder (DP), Zero-Forcing (ZF) canceller, and Decision-Feedback (DF) canceller. A thorough discussion on some of the practical implementation aspects of Vectored DSL is provided. In particular, various implementation challenges are discussed, including computational load, memory storage, line management, partial crosstalk cancellation, and the effect of imperfect channel knowledge. As well, the potential gains and challenges of combining Phantom DSL and Vectored DSL are also discussed. Illustrative examples are provided based on both measured data and channel models to compare the various Vectored DSL techniques and their practical implementation challenges.

In this paper, we consider the problem of lossy coding of correlated vector sources with uncoded side information available at the decoder. In particular, we consider lossy coding of vector source x is an element of R-N which is correlated with vector source y is an element of R-N, known at the decoder. We propose two compression schemes, namely, distributed adaptive compression (DAC) and distributed universal compression (DUC) schemes. The DAC algorithm is inspired by the optimal solution for Gaussian sources and requires computation of the conditional Karhunen-Love transform (CKLT) of the data at the encoder. The DUC algorithm, however, does not require knowledge of the CKLT at the encoder. The DUC algorithms are based on the approximation of the correlation model between the sources V and x through a linear model y = Hx + n in which H is a matrix and n is a random vector and independent of x. This model can be viewed as a fictitious communication channel with input x and output V. Utilizing channel equalization at the receiver, we convert the original vector source coding problem into a set of manageable scalar source coding problems. Furthermore, inspired by bit loading strategies employed in wireless communication systems, we propose for both compression schemes a rate allocation policy which minimizes the decoding error rate under a total rate constraint. Equalization and bit loading are paired with a quantization scheme for each vector source entry (a slightly simplified version of the so called DISCUS scheme). The merits of our work are as follows: 1) it provides a simple, yet optimized, implementation of Wyner-Ziv quantizers for correlated vector sources, by using the insight gained in the design of communication systems;2) it provides encoding schemes that, with or without the knowledge of the correlation model at the encoder, enjoy distributed compression gains.

A Two-Dimensional Vectorized Secure Transmission Scheme for Wireless Communications

Wireless communication security can be enhanced by leveraging the characteristics of the physical (PHY) layer, where discriminatory scrambling can be employed at the symbol level to either improve the signal quality of the legitimate receiver or degrade that of the eavesdroppers. However, in the presence of multiple passive eavesdroppers with more antennas than the transmitter, the transmitted signals can still be reliably separated from random disturbances. To mitigate this challenge, we propose a two-dimensional vectorized secure transmission scheme. Unlike existing transmission schemes (where the same data symbol is sent over each antenna with a predesigned complex weight at a time), in the proposed scheme, a sequence of data symbols in a predefined order (named symbol vector) is first pre-superposed through pre-coding with a random complex matrix prior to been sent as a vector in parallel over each transmitting antenna at a time. As a result, physical randomness of the legitimate channel is introduced into the received signals at passive eavesdroppers in the pre-coding procedure. Moreover, to ensure that transmitted data symbols can be recovered in the right order, each symbol vector is sent repeatedly, according to the principle of maximum entropy. To ensure the intended receiver can recover the transmitted symbol vector, the random pre-coding matrices are selected such that a linear constraint imposed by the CSI of the legitimate channel is satisfied. In addition, an extended maximum likelihood (ML) detection method is developed for the desired receiver while the random pre-coding matrices are not required to be transmitted. We then analyze its security based on the signal detection theory to demonstrate that the intended receiver can recover the transmitted symbol vectors while the eavesdroppers are not capable of doing so. We also evaluate the performance of the proposed scheme to demonstrate its effectiveness.

Sliding Window-Based Transmit Antenna Selection Technique for Large-Scale MU-MIMO Networks

In this letter, a novel antenna selection (AS) technique is proposed for the downlink of large-scale multi-user multiple input multiple output (MU-MIMO) networks, where a base station (BS) is equipped with large-scale antennas (N) and communicates simultaneously with K(K N) mobile stations (MSs). In the proposed scheme, the S antennas (S N) are selected by utilzing the concept of a sliding window. It is shown that the sum-rate of our proposed scheme is comparable to that of the conventional scheme, while the proposed scheme can significantly reduce the complexity of the BS.

Photonic precoding for Millimeter-Wave Multicell MIMO in Centralized RoF System

We propose a centralized photonic precoding method for millimeter-wave (MMW) multicell multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wireless communications. By applying the multicell MIMO and hence exploiting the spatial multiplexing gain over MMW, the system capacity is enhanced compared with the conventional single-input single-output (SISO) system. Based on radio-over-fiber (RoF) techniques, the multicell function is realized in a centralized location, which simplifies the design of remote access units. Traversing over the optical links enabled by the RoF infrastructure, we implement a novel method of photonic precoding to realize the zero-forcing precoding approach, which simplifies the user equipment complexity. A two-cell MIMO downlink transmission using the proposed method is experimentally demonstrated. Our results show that original signals can be directly recovered at the receivers with a power penalty <1 dB compared with SISO transmission. The effect of varying photonic parameters is also analyzed.
