SLNR-based precoder design in Multiuser Interference Channel with Channel Estimation Error

In this paper, we consider a precoder design problem for multiuser interference channel. Most of the conventional schemes for precoder design utilize a signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) as a cost function. However, since the SINR metric of a desired transmitter-receiver pair is a function of precoding vectors of all transmitters in the multiuser interference channel, an analytic closed-form solution is not available for the precoding vector of a desired transmitter that maximizes the SINR metric. To eliminate coupling between the precoding vectors of all transmitters and to find a closed-form solution for the precoding vector of the desired transmitter, we use a signal-to-leakage-plus-noise ratio (SLNR) instead as a cost function because the SLNR at a transmitter is a function of the precoding vector of the desired transmitter only. In addition, channel estimation errors for undesired links are considered when designing the precoding vector because they are inevitable in a multiuser interference channel. In this case, we propose a design scheme for the precoding vector that is robust to the channel estimation error. In the proposed scheme, the precoding vector is designed to maximize the worst-case SLNR. Through computer simulation, we show that the proposed scheme has better performance than the conventional scheme in terms of SLNR, SINR, and sum rate of all users.

Joint precoder design for Distributed Transmission of Correlated Sources in Sensor Networks

We consider the problem of transmitting multiple spatially distributed correlated sources to a common destination (e. g. a fusion center or an access point) in wireless sensor networks (WSNs). The correlated data from multiple sensors are jointly transmitted to the destination via orthogonal channels. We assume that the channel between each sensor and the receiver is multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO), with each sensor and the receiver equipped with multiple transmit/receive antennas. In this framework, we study the problem of joint linear precoder design for all sensors by assuming the knowledge of the instantaneous channel state information (CSI), aiming at maximizing the mutual information between the sources and the received signals at the destination. We propose a Gauss-Seidel iterative approach which successively optimizes the precoding matrix associated with each sensor, while fixing the other precoding matrices. Numerical results show that the proposed algorithm that takes into account the spatial correlation across sensors can achieve higher capacity than conventional methods that neglect the spatial correlation.

Joint Zero-Forcing Based precoder design for QoS-Aware Power Allocation in MIMO Cooperative Cellular Network

We study a cellular system scenario where multiple data streams originating from a base station (BS) targeted to multiple cell-edge mobile stations (MSs) are transmitted via pre-installed cooperative relay stations (RSs) with multiple antennas. Our objective is to guarantee quality-of-service (QoS) in terms of predefined signal-to-noise ratio at such users within the transmit power budgets at BS and RSs while minimizing total transmit power. We propose a novel precoder design method for power allocation between multiple data streams at BS and RS by using joint zero-forcing strategy in order to avoid multiuser interference (MUI) in the signal received by MSs via both the direct and relay links. We also propose low-complexity suboptimal power allocation algorithm. We focus on analyzing the significance of direct link transmission in providing QoS to cell-edge MSs specially when RS is not situated directly between BS and MSs. Simulation results show that considering direct link and using the proposed scheme in such case significantly improves system outage performance compared to existing schemes in the literature which do not consider direct link.

Weighted Sum-Rate Maximization Based precoder design for D2D Communication in Cellular Networks

We consider device-to-device (D2D) direct communication underlying cellular networks where the D2D link reuses the frequency resources of the cellular downlink. In this paper, we propose a linear precoder design scheme for a base station (BS) and D2D transmitter using the weighted sum-rate of the cellular downlink and D2D link as a cost function. Because the weighted sum-rate maximization problem is not convex on the precoding matrices of BS and D2D transmitters, an equivalent mean-squared error (MSE) minimization problem which is convex on the precoding matrices is proposed by introducing auxiliary matrices. We show that the two optimization problems have the same optimal solution for the precoding matrices. Then, an iterative algorithm for solving the equivalent MSE minimization problem is presented. Through a computer simulation, we show that the proposed scheme offers better weighted sum-rate performance that a conventional scheme.

Low Complexity Zeroforcing precoder design Under Per-Antenna Power Constraints

The K-user multiple- input single-output broadcast channel is considered under per-antenna power constraints, i.e., each transmit antenna must satisfy its own power constraint. A low complexity zeroforcing (ZF) precoder is proposed when the number of transmit antennas M is greater than K. The proposed precoder design significantly reduces computational complexity for the precoder construction while attaining the sum spectral efficiency close to that achievable by the optimal ZF precoder.

Max-Min Fairness precoder design for Rate-Splitting Multiple Access: Impact of Imperfect Channel Knowledge

Rate-splitting multiple access (RSMA) is a key enabling technology for beyond 5G networks due to its robustness against imperfect channel knowledge. In this paper, we consider both the imperfect channel state information (CSI) at the receiver (CSIR) and imperfect CSI at the transmitter (CSIT) and propose a max-min fairness optimization framework relying on RSMA to guarantee each user's minimum level of quality of service (QoS). First, we formulate the max-min fairness optimization problem that has non-convexity. To transform the non-convex problem into a convex problem, we apply the semi-definite relaxation (SDR) and convex-concave procedure (CCP) to the proposed algorithm. From simulation results, we confirm that RSMA is still a robust scheme over conventional multiple access schemes for both imperfect CSIT and CSIR.

Max-Min Fair precoder design and Power Allocation for MU-MIMO NOMA

In this correspondence, transmit precoders and their power allocation coefficients are designed jointly for a downlink non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) wireless communication system. The objective is to provide max-min fairness (MMF) among the strongest users in each group, while maintaining minimum target rates for all the other users. The proposed solutions are respectively based on semi-definite relaxation (SDR) and successive convex approximation (SCA) and on the minimum mean square error (MMSE) approaches. For the latter approach, a simplification is also suggested to lower complexity. It is shown that while rate-splitting (RS) has the best MMF rates, the low-complexity MMSE approach has the least complexity. Moreover, the SDR/SCA approach offers an excellent tradeoff between the two.

Deep Learning-Based precoder design in MIMO Systems With Finite-Alphabet Inputs

It is a challenge to apply the precoder design maximizing the mutual information with finite-alphabet inputs to practical multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems, because it needs to iteratively solve an optimization problem, which is difficult to satisfy the requirement of real time. This letter develops a deep learning based precoding scheme, which employs the property of deep neural network (DNN) as approximator of functions. Simulation results show that a DNN can accurately learn the input-output relationship of a nearly optimal precoder achieved by the traditional interior-point method (IPM);moreover, in different MIMO scenarios, a trained DNN of small size offers almost the same performance as the nearly optimal precoder, but with huge improvement in efficiency, especially in cases of higher modulation and more antennas. The improved efficiency makes it possible to be applied to practical communication systems.

Energy-Efficient precoder design for MIMO Wiretap Channels

In this letter, we study energy-efficient precoder design in a three-node MIMO wiretap channel. Different from previous works in this area that mainly focus on secrecy rate maximization or power minimization problems, here, we aim to maximize the energy efficiency (EE) of the system subject to the secret rate and transmit power constraints, which is a nonconvex optimization and hard to tackle. To solve it, we first transform it into an equivalent parameterized polynomial subtractive form and then approximate the nonconvex equivalent problem into a convex optimization problem by means of Taylor series expansion. Based on that, an iterative algorithm with proved convergence is proposed, and this algorithm is also extended to an imperfect-channel-state-information case. Numerical results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms traditional design methods in terms of EE.

Linear precoder design for SWIPT With Finite-Alphabet Inputs and Statistical CSI

This paper considers the transmit linear precoding problem for a multiple-input-multipleoutput system with simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT), where we assume that the transmitter only has statistical channel state information. The optimal precoder is designed based on maximizing the lower bound of average mutual information under the constraints of transmitting power and harvested energy level. Different from previous works on SWIPT, this paper formulates the design from the standpoint of realistic communication systems with finite-alphabet input signals instead of Gaussian input signals. The formulated problem is NP-hard, so a globally optimal solution cannot be found with polynomial-time complexity. However, by exploiting the structure of the problem, we develop two algorithms to obtain a near optimal solution, among which one is based on a semidefinite relaxation (SDR) technique and the other is based on power allocation. The SDR-based algorithm has more extensive applicability, while the power-allocation-based algorithm offers higher efficiency. The simulation results show the efficacy of the proposed algorithms.
