Weighted Sum-Rate Maximization Based precoder design for D2D Communication in Cellular Networks

We consider device-to-device (D2D) direct communication underlying cellular networks where the D2D link reuses the frequency resources of the cellular downlink. In this paper, we propose a linear precoder design scheme for a base station (BS) and D2D transmitter using the weighted sum-rate of the cellular downlink and D2D link as a cost function. Because the weighted sum-rate maximization problem is not convex on the precoding matrices of BS and D2D transmitters, an equivalent mean-squared error (MSE) minimization problem which is convex on the precoding matrices is proposed by introducing auxiliary matrices. We show that the two optimization problems have the same optimal solution for the precoding matrices. Then, an iterative algorithm for solving the equivalent MSE minimization problem is presented. Through a computer simulation, we show that the proposed scheme offers better weighted sum-rate performance that a conventional scheme.

In this paper, minimum MSE based interference alignment (IA) algorithm is developed for the interfering broadcast channel (IBC), which models the multi-cell downlink system, underlying cognitive radio, device-to-device and other scenarios. The IA precoders and decoders are computed to minimize the MSE. Cascade design is used for IA precoder design, where the first component precoder is obtained by MSE minimization and the second component of the cascade precoder is computed using zero forcing to null the intra-group interference. The resultant design is iterated to obtain the optimal precoder-decoder for IA. In simulations, the algorithm is analyzed for convergence, SNR behavior, and precoder initialization sensitiveness. It can be seen that the sum rate of the algorithm is non-decreasing in each iteration and performs better than the least squares based IA algorithm for IBC.

A novel precoding scheme is proposed for MIMO multicasting systems, using the criterion of maximizing the minimal signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) among multiple data streams, while considering the minimum mean-squared-error decision feedback equalizer (MMSE-DFE) at each user side. We decompose the precoding matrix into a transformation matrix multiplied by a unitary matrix, and perform the design process within two steps. In the first step, the transformation matrix is obtained by solving a convex optimization and using Gaussian randomization. In the second one, the unitary matrix is iteratively optimized by decomposing the original multiple-stream problem into several simplified dual-stream sub-problems. At each iteration, the dual-stream sub-problem is converted into a real-valued optimization problem equivalently, which can be solved by an iterative approach based on the Lozano's algorithm. Simulation results indicate that the proposed scheme achieves better performance in terms of both achievable rate and symbol error rate than the other existing schemes.

Multiple input multiple output (MIMO) schemes based on generalized spatial modulations (GSM) have been widely considered as potential candidate techniques for next-generation wireless networks, as they can improve both spectral and energy efficiency. In this paper we propose a multi-user MIMO system, where a base station transmits precoded GSM symbols to several receivers. In the adopted GSM approach, multiple antennas transmit different high-level QAM symbols simultaneously. The precoder is designed in order to remove interference between users while an iterative algorithm is applied at the receiver to accomplish single-user GSM detection. Simulation results show that the presented GSM MU-MIMO approach is capable to effectively exploit a large number of transmit antennas deployed at the transmitter and also provide performance gains over conventional MU-MIMO schemes with identical spectral efficiencies.

Affine precoding superimposes training signals on linearly precoded data. It enhances symbol recovery and effectively identifies the frequency-selective fading channel. Previous works have shown its advantage over the standard time-multiplexed training. This paper considers orthogonal affine precoding for joint channel estimation and symbol detection in wireless MIMO-OFDM systems. Analytical and numerical results confirm its ability to efficiently identify the unknown wireless channel as well as effectively recover the data symbols, while conserving the transmission bandwidth.

We consider minimum mean square error (MMSE) joint precoder and combiner design for single and multi carrier distributed beamforming systems with nonuniform per-antenna transmit power constraints. We show that, similar to the maximum-gain problem, an iterative Gauss-Seidel algorithm can be used for minimizing MSE which alternately optimizes the transmitter and receiver coefficients. In a single carrier system the optimum transmit coefficients are obtained by a simple projection of the effective MISO channel. In the multicarrier case with a sum-MSE objective, the Gauss-Seidel approach is once again applicable, but the transmit coefficients must be found by solving a quadratically constrained quadratic problem for which we apply a dual gradient algorithm. A numerical example is presented which shows improvement of 0.7 dB in carrier signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) relative to a projected eigenvector method for a multicarrier DBF system with Rayleigh-faded multipath channels.

Joint design of precoder and receiver in cognitive radio networks using an MSE criterion

We consider a single-user multiple-input multiple output (MIMO) transmission from secondary base station (SBS) in cognitive radio network where there is one primary user to which spectrum is licensed. It is assumed that coexistence of secondary network is allowed if interference power from the secondary network measured at primary user (PU) can be kept below a given threshold. In this paper, joint design problem of precoder and receiver is treated using mean-squared error (MSE) criterion between transmitted signal and its estimate at the receiver. Due to constraint on interference power measured at the PU, it is not possible to find an optimal solution in closed form. Therefore, a suboptimal solution with low complexity is proposed in closed form. Simulation results show that the MSE and bit error rate (BER) performances of the proposed scheme are 1.5-4.0 dB better than those of a conventional capacity-maximization scheme when the received signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is high, and they converge to their lower bounds, i.e., those of an MSE-based scheme without considering the PU interference constraint, as the received SNR increases. In this work, we propose a double-layer precoder and cluster-based power allocation design for low earth orbit (LEO) satellite communication with massive multiple input multiple output (MIMO). Specifically, spectral efficiency (SE) is chosen as the evaluation metric with hardware complexity, transmit power, instantaneous channel state information (iCSI) and statistical channel state information (sCSI) considered. We simplify the three-dimension (3D) air-to-ground MIMO channel under satellite environment with the angular spread model. Then, a double-layer precoder is proposed to reduce the hardware complexity and eliminate the inter-user interference (IUI) among each user cluster. With angle of departure (AoD) information, the user clustering criteria to maximize the SE and eliminate inter-cluster interference (ICI) is derived. After that, a cluster-based power allocation scheme is proposed by dividing the total transmit power into two parts, one to meet the user's minimum service requirement and the other to get optimal SE performance by waterfilling algorithm. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme achieves better SE performance compared with other feasible approaches.

High peak-to-average-ratio (PAPR) and large out-of-band emission (OOBE) are the two main shortcomings of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signals for cognitive radios. Among all the existing techniques, it has been shown that precoding is an effective way for either reducing the PAPR or suppressing the OOBE. However, no work has focused on designing an effective precoding approach to reduce the PAPR and suppress the OOBE simultaneously. In this study, three new precoding approaches that can jointly suppress OOBE and reduce PAPR simultaneously are presented. The simulation results show that, firstly, all the three proposed precoding approaches can achieve the same power spectral density performance as the typical OOBE-suppression precoding approach with the same spectral efficiency. Secondly, their PAPR performances are only slightly worse than the typical PAPR-reduction precoding approach with a similar computational complexity. Finally, two of the three proposed precoding approaches do not cause any bit error rate (BER) performance degradation with respect to the conventional OFDM system. The abilities to suppress OOBE and PAPR jointly and to maintain the good BER performance make two of the three proposed approaches very favourable for practical applications.

Training Signal and precoder designs for OFDM Under Colored Noise

Based on convex programming, this paper presents a new training signal design for orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) under colored Gaussian noise. An effective method for OFDM symbol detection with the use of precoding is also described. Both analytical and simulation results show that the. proposed training design and detection method can effectively estimate the frequency-selective fading channel and reliably recover the OFDM symbols. The superiority of the proposed design over the previously known design under the colored Gaussian noise is also demonstrated.
