The aim of this paper is to study the predefined-time synchronization of coupled competitive neural networks (NNs) as well as the impacts of time-varying delays on the predefined-time synchronization performance. First, the models for drive and response systems of coupled competitive NNs with and without coupling delays are established for the first time in this work. After that, the predefined-time synchronization of the proposed network models is investigated, and some new predefined-time synchronization conditions for the considered drive and response systems are derived by designing novel bilayer controllers and using some inequality techniques. It is worth mentioning that the desired convergence time can be adjusted by presetting the parameters in the controllers in advance. Moreover, the synchronization is achieved in the predefined time regardless of the initial value of the coupled competitive NNs. At last, the proposed synchronization conditions are validated through two examples.

The problem of predefined-time (PdT) synchronization of FitzHugh-Nagumo (FHN) neural networks is investigated. The FHN neural networks have shown proficiency in accurately representing the essential characteristics of neurons and effectively simulating the structural dynamics and functioning of the brain. The investigation of synchronization in FHN neural networks will enhance our comprehension of how neurons behave dynamically and promote their valuable utilization in the field of artificial intelligence. In this study, the successful integration of adaptive control and PdT control techniques not only achieves synchronization within a predetermined time but also eliminates the need to preselect controlling gains. The work develops new PdT stability theorems for singular perturbation systems and synchronizing controllers that exclude linear terms. Consequently, a set of sufficient conditions for achieving this synchronization goal is provided. Furthermore, it mathematically demonstrates the implementability of an upper bound for the settling time by parameterizing the predefined time as a controller parameter, thereby eliminating the need for explicit recalculations. Moreover, the control gains can be adjusted adaptively, enhancing the flexibility of control parameter tuning. Finally, several numerical simulations are presented to validate the effectiveness of the designed adaptive PdT control strategies. Note to Practitioners-The study of neural network-based synchronization in nonlinear systems is rapidly emerging as an important tool in many fields, including automation, telecommunications, computer science, mathematics, physics, and biology. Generating Grid Multiscroll Memristive Chua's Circuit and Its predefined-time synchronization for Secure Communication

With consideration of the inherent nonlinearity and distinctive memory characteristics, memristors are excellent candidates for constructing multiscroll attractors. This paper seeks to introduce a memristor into the Chua's circuit to operate in conjunction with a novel piecewise nonlinear resistor which replaces the Chua's diode to design the circuit that can generate grid multiscroll attractors, which is designated as multiscroll memristive Chua's circuit (MMCC). The designed MMCC is capable of generating any number of scrolls, with the number of scrolls expanding in accordance with the internal variables of the memristor and the nonlinear resistor. By utilizing phase portraits, bifurcation diagrams, Lyapunov exponents (LEs), coexisting attractors and amplitude modulation thoroughly examined its property. The feasibility of the MMCC is demonstrated through circuit implementation. Furthermore, we design the predefined-time synchronization (PTS) controller for the MMCC, serving as the foundation for a multi-channel segmented secure communication scheme, whose effectiveness is rigorously validated through experimental testing.

Fixed/predefined time synchronization of fractional quaternion delayed neural networks with disturbances

The fixed time synchronization (Fix-TS) and predefined time synchronization (Pre-TS) of fractional quaternion delayed neural networks (FQDNNs) with disturbances using fractional sliding mode (FSM) control are investigated. We first introduce an enhanced lemma for fixed time (Fix-T) and predefined time (Pre-T) stability, expanding upon the existing stability theory. Subsequently, we introduce the FQDNNs model with disturbance terms, which is less conservative. By constructing two FSM controllers, we derive several theorems for Fix-TS and Pre-TS, respectively. The concise criterion and accurate setting time are demonstrated through numerical simulations, and graphic visualization directly verifies the results.

This paper presents a study on the predefined-time (PdT) and practical PdT synchronization of competitive neural networks (CNN) in the presence of different time scales and external disturbances. Two types of external disturbances, which satisfy Lipschitz or bounded conditions, are investigated respectively. The new PdT and practical PdT stability theorems are derived in singularly perturbed systems, where the final residual set is given in detail. By employing the newly derived stability theorems, novel autonomous controllers are designed without relying on a continuous linear term and time scale parameters, while enabling PdT or practical PdT synchronization for drive-response CNNs. Additionally, upper bounds for the settling time are estimated, allowing for adjusting the predefined synchronization times regardless of the initial conditions. In this paper, the predefined-time synchronization of competitive neural networks (CNNs) is researched based on two different predefined-time stability theorems. In view of the bilayer structure of CNNs, we design two bilayer predefined-time controllers. The first controller utilizes sign function, while the second controller utilizes exponential function and Lyapunov function. In these two controllers, the predefined time is set as a controller parameter, and it can be an arbitrary positive constant. Under these two controllers, the considered CNNs can achieve synchronization within the predefined time regardless of the initial values. In this article, we consider the predefined-time synchronization problem of stochastic memristor-based bidirectional associative memory neural networks (MBAMNNs). First, considering the influence of stochastic disturbance, we propose two new predefined-time theorems. Second, combined with the predefined-time theorem proposed in this article, we design a feedback controller to realize the predefined-time synchronization of MBAMNNs. Then, the sufficient conditions for the predefined-time synchronization of MBAMNNs are obtained based on Ito's formula and Lyapunov theorem. Finally, the effectiveness of the theorems is verified by numerical simulations.

This paper studies predefined-time synchronization of different dimensional fractional-order chaotic systems. Based on Lyapunov stability theory and the definition of predefined-time stability, some sufficient conditions are given to achieve predefined-time synchronization of different dimensional fractional-order chaotic systems by designing a new feedback controller. Compared with some previous finite-time and fixed-time synchronization results, our results are more general. The validity of the results is verified by numerical simulations.

In this paper, the predefined-time synchronization problem of neural networks with time-varying delays is studied via sliding mode control. A new sliding mode controller is designed, and the predefined-time stability of the neural networks both the sliding phase and the arrival phase is proved by using the Lyapunov stability theory and the predefined-time stability theorem. Exponential terms in predefined-time stabilization speed up system convergence and the inclusion of adjustable parameters enhances the flexibility of system. A numerical simulation is used to illustrate effectiveness of the proposed methods.

This paper aims to study the predefined-time synchronization of coupled different dimensional neural networks (CDDNNs). Firstly, by designing appropriate controller and Lyapunov functional, a sufficient condition for the predefinedtime synchronization for the CDDNNs without time-varying delays is established. Secondly, we derive a predefined-time synchronization criterion for CDDNNs with time-varying delays by constructing another novel controller and using some inequality techniques. Finally, the accuracy of the synchronization conditions is verified by an example with MATLAB simulation results.
