Vector precoding (VP) requires the feed-forwarding of the transmit scaling factor to the receiver for correct detection. This can be problematic in fast fading scenarios where the statistics of the scaling factor change frequently and in limited feedback scenarios where the feed-forwarding to the receiver is prone to quantization errors. In response to this, a new VP scheme is proposed for the downlink of multi-user multiple input multiple output (MU-MIMO) systems with limited feedback. The proposed VP circumvents the need for receive-scaling by constraining the search of perturbing vectors to the area in the symbol constellation which is constrictive to the information symbols, i.e. the area where the distances from the decision thresholds are increased with respect to a distance threshold. By doing this, the perturbation quantities need not be removed at the receiver and successful detection can be done without the use of the modulo operation and the scaling factor. In addition, instead of a computationally expensive sphere search used in conventional VP, the proposed scheme uses a MinMax Optimization to select the perturbation quantities. As illustrated by the analysis and results, the error floor encountered in conventional VP in limited feedback scenarios is avoided in the proposed scheme.

Non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) utilizing power domain and advanced receiver is a promising technique for future radio access. Multi-antenna techniques have been deeply studied during the past decade to boost system performance by virtue of spatial multiplexing and/or spatial diversity. It is of great interest to study how to efficiently and effectively combine the two techniques together for further system performance improvement. This paper investigates on the combination of NOMA with opportunistic beamforming (OBF), which has been proposed as a practical multi-antenna transmission scheme with good performance and very limited feedback. The key design issues of NOMA with OBF are investigated including precoding, transmission power assignment, user feedback and scheduling. Furthermore, a method to improve the system performance with OBF is proposed by utilizing historical information. The performance of NOMA with OBF is investigated by system-level simulations with very practical assumptions and parameters in order to provide insights into the suitability of combining OBF with NOMA for future radio access. Simulation results show the proposed method is effective and NOMA with OBF is a promising scheme for future wireless communication systems.

In this paper, a new orthogonal Faster-Than-Nyquist (FTN) signaling based on a Cholesky precoder is proposed. When using a SRRC transmit filter with a roll-off factor, the orthogonal FTN guarantees the orthogonality between all transmitted symbols with a condition of that a symbol period is larger than the 1/(1+α) times of the Nyquist rate. Due to its orthogonal property, the proposed FTN perfectly resolves the problems of higher decoding complexity and performance loss imposed in the conventional FTN.

Lattice-reduction-aided preequalization or precoding are powerful techniques for handling the interference on the multi-user MIMO broadcast channel as the channel's diversity order can be achieved. However, recent advantages in the closely related field of integer-forcing equalization raise the question, if the unimodularity constraint on the integer equalization matrix in LRA schemes is really necessary or if it can be dropped, yielding an additional factorization gain. In this paper, socalled algebraic signal constellations are presented, where the unimodularity is not required anymore. Assuming complexbaseband transmission, particularly q-ary fields of Gaussian primes (complex integer lattice) and Eisenstein primes (complex hexagonal lattice) are considered. Given the signal constellation and the channel code in the same arithmetic over a finite field of order q, a coded modulation approach with straightforward softdecision decoding metric is applied. Moreover, LRA precoding over algebraic constellations and its advantages as opposed to LRA preequalization are discussed. The theoretical considerations in the paper are covered by means of numerical simulations.

We revisit a recently proposed framework for "massive MIMO" named Joint Space Division and Multiplexing (JSDM), that explicitly distinguishes between long-term channel statistics and instantaneous channel state information. In JSDM, the beamforming function is split into two components: prebeamforming and multiuser precoding. The pre-beamforming stage depends only on the channel covariance information, which is (locally) time-invariant and can be acquired without significant training overhead by averaging over time. Based on this information, the pre-beamforming stage separates the users into groups without significant mutual interference, irrespectively of their instantaneous random channel realization. Then, inside each user group, a standard multiuser MIMO precoding scheme based on instantaneous channel state information can be used in order to achieve further multiuser multiplexing gain. JSDM is naturally suited to a Hybrid Digital Analog (HDA) implementation, where the pre-beamforming function can be accomplished through a reconfigurable RF front-end. In this paper, we consider a lowcomplexity HDA implementation of JSDM, where the canonical massive MIMO antenna array is replaced by a smaller number of programmable beam-steering antennas. We show by simulation that with this architecture it is possible to achieve both multiplexing gain and interference mitigation across different user groups.

Millimeter-wave (mmWave) systems require massive antennas at both transmitter and receiver to reach desirable link budget. Analog-digital hybrid beamforming is a promising architecture since it significantly reduces the hardware cost while approaches the performance of digital beamforming. However, the nonlinear power amplifier (PA) introduces intermodulation interference and degrades the spectral efficiency. In this work, we use memory polynomial model for modelling mmWave PA and study the inter-beam and inter-symbol interference in hybrid precoding architecture. We also propose a digital predistortion (DPD) algorithm to mitigate interference. The proposed DPD reduces interference power by an order of magnitude and compared with system without predistortion, the proposed system can achieve up to 60% spectral efficiency.

This paper considers the Softcast joint source-channel video coding scheme for data transmission over parallel channels with different power constraints and noise characteristics, typical in DSL or PLT channels. To minimize the mean square error at receiver, an optimal precoding matrix design problem has to be solved, which requires the solution of an inverse eigenvalue problem. Such solution is taken from the MIMO channel precoder design literature. Alternative suboptimal precoding matrices are also proposed and analyzed, showing the efficiency of the optimal precoding matrix within Softcast, which provides gains increasing with the encoded video quality.

Additional self-interference is introduced in two-way relay network (TWRN) while spectral efficiency is increased. As for self-interference problem in amplify-and-forward (AF) modes, a kind of blind interference cancelation (BIC) scheme is employed. The scheme can realize self-interference cancellation and desired signal separation with unknown channel status information by signal precoding operating at transmitting node. In this way, the impact of residual self-interference caused by imperfect channel estimation on TWRN performance is eliminated. Based on this, the closed expression and asymptotic expression of the system outage probability (OP) under M-phase shift keying (MPSK) modulation is derived. Moreover, the influence of SOP performance with channel estimation error under different schemes is analyzed. The correctness of the theoretical derivation is verified by simulation comparison.

Millimeter wave MIMO systems provide orders of magnitude in data rates due to larger bandwidth than conventional MIMO systems. On the other hand, they experience severe free-space pathloss as carrier frequency ten-fold increases. The resulting small wavelength helps to overcome pathloss with beamforming gain using massive antennas, known as precoding. In mmWave MIMO system, hybrid beamforming combines analog beamforming with digital precoding to reduce the energy consumption and complexity. Hybrid beamforming uses a smaller number of RF chains, which have large power consumption, than the number of antennas. In order to design analog and digital precoder, a large number of calculations such as the SVD of channel is required. In this paper, we propose low complexity hybrid precoding algorithm using beam steering, which utilizes array response vectors of the channel. We first propose the method of selection the analog beamforming matrix without any SVD or inversion of matrices. Then, we find the digital precoding matrix which performs a maximum of the total sum rate with fixed analog beamforming matrix. Since our proposed algorithm applies a set of array response vectors that are used to form the channel, there is no need for complicated operations as SVD like traditional precoding algorithms. Simulation results show that proposed algorithm can reduce the computational complexity while achieving about 93% the same performance in achievable rate compared to typical hybrid precoding in mmWave MIMO systems.

We propose a semi-blind multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system, with a precoding aided carrier frequency offset (CFO) estimation approach, and an independent component analysis (ICA) based equalization structure. A number of reference data sequences are carefully designed offline and are superimposed to source data via a non-redundant linear precoding process, which can kill two birds with one stone, without introducing any extra total transmit power and spectral overhead. First, the reference data sequences are selected from a pool of carefully designed orthogonal sequences. The CFO estimation is to minimize the sum cross-correlation between the CFO compensated signals and the rest orthogonal sequences in the pool. Second, the same reference data enable elimination of the permutation and quadrant ambiguity in the ICA equalized signals by maximizing the cross-correlation between the ICA equalized signals and the reference data. Simulation results show that, without extra bandwidth and power needed, the proposed semi-blind system achieves a bit error rate (BER) performance close to the ideal case with perfect channel state information (CSI) and no CFO. Also, the precoding aided CFO estimation outperforms the constant amplitude zero autocorrelation (CAZAC) sequences based CFO estimation approach, with no spectral overhead.
